This company has a high rating on yelp which made me comfortable to work with them. But the quality of work is poor. They were transparent with cheaper versus higher quality options. The sales phase of this job went well. Unfortunately the craftsman ship was really bad. They installed new trim with jagged uneven edges with gaps at the roof line. The end product is disappointing. We were selling our house, and some items, including the chimney cap, needed to be addressed. I submitted a project through Yelp to request quotes. Lone Star (Eliyah) responded within 3 hours. He offered to come out and asked for pictures of the cap. After sending over the photos and a portion of the inspection report, he quickly provided a competitive quote without having to schedule time to come out to the house, which I appreciated due to the timing and the fact that we were no longer living there. The soonest he could come out was Tuesday, and it was Thursday when I reached out. Not too bad. The day before our appointment, I reached out to provide the address and asked if we needed to be there. In previous correspondence, he mentioned that he would let us know if there was anything else that needed to be addressed while he was up there, so during our phone conversation, I told him that it wouldn't be necessary since the inspector noted everything and we only agreed to the chimney cap. My original Yelp project said we needed it replaced, but the report actually said "repair and/or properly seal," so I mentioned that to Eliayah. With that in mind, he looked at the pictures again and determined that the cap could be repaired and sealed very well instead of being replaced entirely. The metal used for the cap was good quality; it just needed a little TLC. His honesty saved us some money, and knowing that what we had on the house was likely better quality than what is out there now made us feel better, and hopefully, the buyers will, too. Overall, Eliyah was a great to work with from start to finish. He sent a crew member out to the house on the day he said he would, and they took after pictures for us to provide to our realtor. Hired these guys based on great Yelp reviews. My chimney was a mess. The cap was rusted out and the facia boards had dry rot. This caused a leak inside the wall which got the wood wet, and attracted carpenter ants. After waging war on the ants and winning for now, I figured I needed to get to the root cause, the leaky chimney. Val from Lone Star came out and surveyed the chimney and the fireplace. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He then sent me bids by email for exactly the services I wanted, which were fixing the chimney cap and fireplace, fixing the cap, or sealing off the cap. After reading some online forums it seemed best not to seal it off so heat and moisture could escape, but I wasn't ever going to use the fireplace in this friggin hot climate. So went for just fixing/replacing the cap. Set up a date, paid a deposit, and then Val and his great helper (whose name eludes me at the moment) showed up and started working on the chimney. Unfortunately, they had to stop because it started raining, so they covered the exposed chimney top, and said they'd reach out to finish the job as soon as possible. The cover they put on blew off after a while and the chimney stack was exposed to some rain, which in the grand scheme was probably not a huge deal. There was a bit of back and forth to get them back out, because all of their pending jobs had been pushed back due to the rain, but they did get back out to finish by the end of the week. In the pics you can see the before and after. Huge difference! Because I had a couple of days before they came back, I spray painted the top of the chimney white, to reflect heat. I also got them some spray paint to paint the new fascia board. They did an ok job on that. Bottom line, despite a few hiccups that were mostly unavoidable, they were personable, did great work, and the bid was very fair. I would definitely hire them again for any future chimney work. I'm trying to rescend a negative review I placed here, because I evidently made a mistake in scheduling. A representative from this company came at the correct time on the day after I originally thought they were supposed to arrive. Evidently, I got on the wrong column on my phone calendar when I contacted them. He did a very thorough inspection of my fireplace and chimney and I have contracted with them to make repairs and put in a gas log system which I think will work better for us than just a regular fireplace would. When they are finished, I will do a more complete review. I'm very sorry for the initial mistake and for so quickly posting a negative review. Now I'm extra glad I reconsidered, because they showed up promptly to repair my chimney and fireplace and went right to work. They cleaned out the fireplace, and painted the inside, patching up any unsightly cracks and clearing all the creosote that had built up earlier. They also put a new cap on my chimney and sealed all the cracks in the crown, getting it back into ship-shape. Then they installed my new gas log system into the fireplace. We couldn't be happier. It looks fabulous, and even has glowing embers at the bottom, but no smoke, no ashes to clean out, and no flying embers. It is lit by a remote control. We are all thrilled, and hoping we have one more cold front so we can warm ourselves by the fire! The old firescreen was broken, so I need to find a new one. Post Hurricane Beryl, many other storms and heavy fireplace use resulted in my chimney and fireplace needing a safety inspection and repair. Contact with Lonestar Chimney was almost immediate after I posted Yelp for assistance. Elija contacted me in minutes and we set up a time for his technicians to arrive at my house on Galveston. 2 great guys arrived and assessed that I needed a deep chimney cleaning and some metal treatment/paint protection due to water seeping into the open (no cap) chimney. They also determined that I needed a new chimney cap, as Beryl took that one off and deposited in the yard. Note that the house sits on pilings and the chimney is almost 40' high on a new slippery metal roof, they did a great job. After approximately 2 hours they had assessed the needed attention to the fireplace/chimney, deep cleaned the chimney, firebox and fireplace, and installed a new chimney cap.
