We were pretty excited to try this place based on the photos, you figure with a 600-700 degree oven the pizza would have a crunch to it, but no, it had some burnt spots and some underdone spots on it and had no flavor even though the jalapenos had a hell of a spice to them. The wings for being relatively expensive were cooked well just had no flavor. Same thing with the cheesy bread, just lackluster overall. The one thing that was very successful was the gut grenade effect, it hit around 0200 this morning for both of us. Think I lost 7 lbs after eating here. read more

I work in the plaza where this new shop is located. I have eaten there 5 days out of the 5 days they have been open. My coworkers and I all ordered different pizzas to check out the different varieties. So far, my favorite is the Award Winning Chipotle Chicken. The staff is awesome! Very welcoming and friendly every time. If there are any mistakes made, they are quick and friendly to fix them. The owners are hands on and checking on your satisfaction throughout the visit. Yes, I may be a pizza snob, but having grown up near New Haven and Pepe's Pizza, and lived in NYC and NJ I feel I know a little about good pizza. And yes, in NYC it is the water that makes a perfect pizza dough. And the owner of this brand new pizza joint in Winchester is trying to find a way to get that water down here. I'm rooting for him and can say that I like his style. Gotta say, I haven't really had good, New York style pizza down here but this comes close. The real pizza oven helps. What I like about it is they only specialize in pizza, and when you have only one thing to specialize in, you can be sure it's done right. They actually have an assembly line similar to your favorite sub shop where they start by hand tossing the dough, place the sauce and they you choose what you want. I like their 10 inch namesake that has crumbled sausage, pepperoni, fresh peppers and fresh chopped garlic along with artichoke. Then you watch it go into a 750° oven where it only takes a couple of minutes to bake. The dough was as close to NYC as I remember, nice and chewy with a slight char on the bottom. The cheese was gooey and the toppings were all great. And the prices are good as well. Download the app for some good deals. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars cause I am waiting for the water. I haven't been to the restaurant yet but the customer service I've experienced over the phone has been truly the best. Everyone is very nice there. We have been several times and the pizza is almost always great. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is the cooking is inconsistent. How is this place not way more popular? It's nearly empty inside when we go by and it's honestly one of the most unique eateries in Winchester. I had the margherita pizza and to clarify what some other reviewer wrote, yep, it's a margherita pizza--with the same few ingredients the margherita comes with. It was delicious and with fresh ingredients, but it wasn't a Meat Lovers Supreme, if you know what I mean. Not sure if the previous reviewer wanted them to throw some sausage or hot sauce on it or what--but hey, if that's what she wanted, that's what she should have asked for because they make it right there in front of you so you can "have it your way." With regard to whether this was "authentic" NY style pizza, I could care less (why are we trying to emulate that? Really tho). I would never take off stars for something like "the water here isn't filthy enough to make the dough similar to a pizza place that uses NYC public water." Just go there expecting amazing tasting, high quality pizza, nothing more or less. One tip: I would recommend getting the breadsticks (ugh...pure garlic goodness) if you come here ordering takeout because the smell of the pizza is so amazing and you'll want something to eat on the ride home. read more

My Breakfast Club group met for lunch today and this was our first time at Firena. We ordered two traditional dough and traditional sauce pizzas with lots of meat. A side salad and garlic bread finished our meal. The boys decided the garlic bread was slightly low on garlic and they found the cheese to be hard to deal with on the pizza; it's not shredded and came off in big chunks. The meat is all in little balls and they fall off the pizza too. Pizzas were cooked in a large stone oven and came out very quickly. 4 out of 5 loved the sauce and the crust. I think once you get used to ordering at the counter, and the self serve plates, utensils and drinks, you should be pretty comfortable eating here. Music Choice on the TV! read more
