If you're looking for a nice cold sub this isn't the place. And they do not tell you when ordering delivery that your sub is hot. Yes it does say "Hot Subs" on their web site, but it doesn't say anything about "all" subs are hot. Unlike other sub shops that specifically ask if you want the sandwhich hot. Something has been bothering me for a long time now. Don't get me wrong I enjoy Firehouse Subs. When it comes to the meatball subs I have an issue with it. I have been ordering meatball subs with double meat for my cheat day since they opened here in Sioux Falls. In fact I just ordered one a few weeks ago. Here is the issue. When you order a large one it comes with 6 meatballs on the sandwich and if you order double meat you should get 6 more right? NO! you only get 5. How is 6 Plus 5 called double meat? I had brought it up a while ago but was told it's policy to do that per the staff. I have not heard back from corporate yet but I follow up on it later this week. read more

We went yesterday about 3pm and ordered a cold Italian sub and a pastrami one. Clerks were not really friendly, but they were made and we left about 10-12 minutes later. We are them around 330/4pm and initially all was fine. Then the bathroom trips started with two before 7pm and now this morning, we both have diarrhea and have gone twice in one hour. The meat they use is obviously garbage and not Boars Head or whatever they claim it is This has happened 2x before at other locations We are done with Firehouse now and WARN others to avoid this location, unless you want to spend half a day in the bathroom. They have amazing subs, always fresh to order. My favorites are the Firehouse Meatball and the New York Steamer with all the toppings. However, their new pricing structure kind of sucks... the smalls are so tiny you can't even call them a meal (unless they're supposed to be for kids, in which case they should be advertised as such). As for cleanliness, lately it can be better. We've come in on several occasions only to discover the seating area hasn't been wiped down and the beverage area is a sticky mess... and it's not busy at all. And recently, a staff member was eating food in the seating area (probably break or lunch) then got up to help out without cleaning her hands first. That should be a BIG no-no... always wash your hands before returning to work, regardless of what you're doing. You're handling food! read more

I went online at 10 this morning and placed an online order to be picked up at 12:15 p.m. I go to the establishment and tell him I'm there for my order and they say okay we're going to get it ready at 1:18 p.m. I left with no food because I had to go to work. The managers that are working today August 31st we're arguing about a bus load of kids that came into the restaurant and kept using that as an excuse for not getting my food. I have gotten subs here 3 or 4 times. Always good. You can get the smaller 6 inch or the big 12 inch sub. Plenty to choose from on the menu. The Engineer sub is good. Smoked turkey, cheese, mushrooms. Forgot to hold the mayo last time, but it was still fine. The sweet and spicy meatball sub is good for clearing your sinuses on a chilly winter day. Meatballs are very good. And if it is not spicy enough for you, they have a wide variety of hot sauces to choose from at the end of the counter. From mild to "I haven't felt my tongue in weeks" sauces. You can eat in or take it with you. They have a couple of small tvs, one on each end of the dining area. Tables are a bit packed in. So if you have not tried it, give it a go. Look up their menu online. There is a lot to choose from. Figure $8 and change for a large 12 inch sub. I ordered online and got there early, had been waiting for about 5 minutes when they put out the order due 10 minutes after mine. Eventually, at my order time (I'd clearly been waiting in the pickup spot the whole time) an employee asked if I was waiting for an online order and then told me my card hadn't gone through and i'd have to swipe again. Waited 10-15 minutes past my pickup time, and my order was wrong. There was also a piece of meat in my veggie sub. Most of the employees there didn't wear their masks over their noses. Tried firehouse again. Another fail. They use a good amount of meat, but I'm not a fan of not seeing how the sandwich is being made. The workers were nice and there was no line. Over the past couple of days, I have placed 4 separate orders for numerous box lunches that I took into work for some of our shifts. The staff and quality of the meals have been exceptional! Very friendly people and high-quality food, I couldn't ask for more! We stop by often to try a different sandwich. My daughter does not like Subway or Togos, but is excited to eat at Firehouse Subs. These are her favorite and she has not found one she dislikes (of course the meatball sub is her favorite). Great food prices, great food, and get the pickle bucket if you need a bucket. Friend took me here during a lunch break and I will say.... Wow! It wasn't too busy when I ate there, could have been during an off peak moment. My family of 3 had lunch here this weekend and spent $30 on 2 adults and a 3 year old! I was pissed that I spent that much on sandwiches. I had no idea the sandwiches were so big or that I'd be spending that much. I was never told a price but on the menu it had them listed for around $8 each. I saw a table next to me where they had smaller sandwiches and wondered if I got screwed out of my money. I could only eat half of what I ordered which was about 6 inches. Way too expensive for a sandwich place that is cramped with tables and not much standing room for incoming customers. I could get the same sandwiches somewhere else for half that price. I'd eat here again but I wouldn't eat IN the restaurant. I'd rather eat in my car considering the cramped atmosphere. It's just too small and too many tables cramped into such a small space. They need to either remove some tables out, expand or rearrange so that the ordering is not where people are eating. Having customers wait for 5+ minutes for a sandwich next to where I'm eating is extremely irritating. I didn't really get to enjoy my food like I had wanted to. The sandwiches are amazing, except for the kids grilled cheese which was awful. My kid wouldn't eat it and when I took a bite I knew why. I could do better at home in under 5 minutes. I wish they offered a gluten free option even though I know it's hard for sandwich places to do so. The service was great despite the new girl who took almost 10 minutes just to take our order. I did get quite impatient with her. They greet customers as they walk in but in a very uncomfortable and annoying way since those who are sitting down have to hear them all say "Welcome to Firehouse" so many times it makes me want to tell them all to shutup. The owner/manager was actively on the floor most of the time I was there. It was clear he cared about what was going on and that makes me want to go back. We're looking into opening a restaurant ourselves and know a lot about the industry so seeing him actively involved was very impressive. The fountain drink is an impressive yet irritable situation. It's a touch screen which is super cool yet they need at least 3 of these to keep customers happy. I waiting longer for my drink than I did my sandwich. Not ok. Get more of those awesome machines that have so many options. It fit the atmosphere but as I said before, this kind of restaurant needs to be twice the size. The sandwiches are amazing (except the kids grilled cheese) and they need to add at least 2 more fountain drink machines. I will go back and give it a 2nd chance but I won't be eating inside the restaurant or order a kids grilled cheese. My suggestions to the owner... 1. Make a better grilled cheese. ;) 2. Add a 2nd, or even a 3rd, drink machine. 3. Rearrange your dining area or expand. It's too cramped. I felt this way and many people around us were commenting on it as well. 4. Your Smokehouse Beef & Cheddar Brisket is yummy. Add a tidbit more bbq sauce and it will be AMAZING. ' Bottom line... I will definitely be visiting this restaurant again in the next couple months. We walked in, ordered our food! Sat down and a lady walked up in a firehouse shirt and told us we had to leave and we are like excuse us. Shes like you can't have a dog in here! It's a service dog not doing anything minding her own business! She asked for our papers which is illegal to ask for!! She ended up walking away but that didn't stop her mouth from talking behind the counter talking shit! So my wife got up and said we would like our money back if you are going to make us feel uncomfortable by talking about us. We go up to register to get our money back and shes like i can't believe anyone would bring their dog into a restaurant knowing it's a service dog. We said we do it all thw time and shes like i bet!!! My wife saw her eating food out of thw make table when we got there and she had mentioned that to the lady and she didn't have much to say after that!! Pretty unique to this franchise is how they steam the meats and toast the bread to make it a really moist and hot sub. The flavor didn't blow me away and meats are super thin slice but lots of it, if you like that. read more

Today was our first time at Firehouse Subs, and we loved it. The young man who was at the ordering counter was really friendly and so helpful. The sandwiches we chose were hot and so delicious. I had the Club on a Sub and my husband had the New York Steamer. These were way better sandwiches than any other sub shop, as far as I'm concerned, and I'm a fan of all the major chains. The place was clean and bright and the firehouse theme carried throughout the restaurant was appropriate, and at times really cute (the dalmatian-inspired tabletops). We complimented the owner regarding the food and the friendly employees. We will definitely be back and will recommend it to all our friends. Not sure about the issues the other reviewers on here had, but they must have fixed them, because we had a great experience. We also appreciate the charity-mindedness Firehouse Subs has. I absolutely love this place! My boyfriend is from out of town and every time he visits he demands we go here. The entire staff gives a warm greeting to everyone who enters the door, it is kept clean and tidy, and the food is delicious. A young gentlemen named Barry has impressed me several times with his impeccable customer service and their Hook and Ladder sandwich is my go-to. I know the kids enjoy the touch screen Coke machine with many combinations but I've gotta admit, I have as much fun with that as kids do!
