The bread is very fresh with that homemade taste. The staff is super friendly and helpful! The wait time was a bit long as they were training people in sub preparation. The knowledge that some of your purchase price goes to a local firehouse for equipment made the whole experience so much better! Service was extremely slow. Crew members seemed unhappy. Food was mediocre, not worth the price. Overall this location is very unsanitary and not well maintained. Open tables were dirty with previous patrons crumbs scattered on the table tops and floors. Restrooms were gross with pools of water on the floor alongside the toilets not flushing. 1/22/20 Stopped in to pick up a sandwich around 8:30 to take to the airport in the am. I had never been into a FS and found it clean, bright, and nicely appointed with their signature fireman equipment. There was only one other person ordering which made me wonder why it took so long to get the sandwich and go. I ordered the Italian, and since I had never patonized FS I did not know unless requested that Italian subs (which I have always known to be a cold sandwich at every sub shop I have ever ordered from). I heard a rumor on Facebook that this store had been taken over by new management and were updating, deep cleaning and remodeling inside. I went to check it out and it's true! There is a completely new staff and it was top notch. I understand everybody else's reservations about going there in the past --it was awkward. If you want to know what happened your store took an online order failed to make it correctly and demanded that the sandwich be returned in order for a correction to be made. Sandwich $10.99 My avg monthly fastfood budget $400+ I will be making my dinner and lunch choices elsewhere from now on. When I went, two employees were standing outside talking while two others were helping (in their own substandard manner) customers. Took forever to make sandwiches and they were nowhere near as good as any other Firehouse. I had a hard time picking. I ended up getting The Steamer, but it was difficult choosing: Pastrami, beef brisket, provolone, mustard, Mayo, and Italian dressing, toasted on an 8" whole wheat roll. I could definitely taste the difference in quality of the meat from other sub restaurants. They offer about 30 bottles of unusual and interesting condiments in the bar, but I didn't take advantage. The decor is charming. The Dalmatian-spotted tabletops were cute. Further, I love that offer opportunities to support local first responders, important as this city has been ground zero for tornado emergencies several times. In fact, this restaurant is one block from the path of the May 2013 tornado that devastated this city. Thanks Firehouse for the delicious lunch.
