While waiting for my sandwich I noticed a staff member come from behind the counter. They went to the trash container next to the front entrance, took container liner out, push trash down to take out. Then directly back to behind the counter. I watched them then continue to work behind the counter at the sandwich making station. Minutes later that same person came out with my sandwich. Makes me wonder if they changed their gloves or washed their hands. I was Serve Safe certified and should've spoke up but did not. I'm not saying my current upset stomach is because of that, but I should've spoke up. Please stress to your staff proper hygiene/ protocol when doing cleaning when they are also tasked w making our food. The sandwich tasted fine. To put it where the goats can get it....this place is horrible. 31 minutes to get two subs tonight. what made it worse was that the second one was wrong. we ordered a meat only sub with mustard...literally bread, meat, and mustard. Only one in the drive through and it takes 30 minutes to make a mediums sized sub. What is going on in there?

First time visitor. Didn't do anything fancy and ordered off the menu. Along with sandwiches that already have names (fire department type names) from the menu you can do a build your own sandwich or get a salad. I'm pretty basic sandwich person so ordered the hook and ladder. As is. Now that I've been I know what changes to make in the future as far as the add on that I like. The sandwich was toasted and once the order was complete one of the staff brought it to us. Will definitely go back again. It was fairly busy and the staff seemed pleasant. I stopped by to order lunch through the drive through. The gentleman taking orders came in and asked me if I minded waiting for him to come back in a few minutes, and the. Something else that I couldn't understand. I said I could hold, but didn't understand him. He quickly repeated it and I tried to clarify his directions...which sounded like he could take my order and I would have to wait 25 minutes for my order. So after I asked for clarification he said very annoyed with me, "yes, that's exactly what I said 3 times now". I will not be back, and I do not recommend it to anyone. While I was waiting for my order, another customer came in and showed them that his Turkey sub was full of plastic strands. I had ordered the same subs and asked that they please check and ensure my subs did not have any plastic (they said they would). Meanwhile the staff is pointing fingers about who's fault it was and not seeming to take it seriously in front of the customers. WISH I COULD GIVE A 0. Writing this leaving the drive thru line... we've been waiting for an hour and 15 minutes and it was only us and two other cars when we first got here (with small orders). I even went in to the restroom and there were no customers inside, and they were fully staffed, so I have no clue how they spend their time. They seemed to just be standing around talking. The driver of the truck in front of us even got out and leaned through the drive thru window to see what the hold up was- which can we point out what a huge safety risk it is that the employees just leave the window and the cash register wide open while they walk away for 30 minutes? I quite literally just got soup and my family got two of the exact same easy to make subs, and I wish it wasn't so good or else I would avoid this place at all cost. AND when the subs FINALLY came out, my soup wasn't even in the bag. So furious and tempted to never come back after this experience. It genuinely frustrates me that there are so many negative reviews and the business keeps responding with how they're "on it" and will "make changes", but it's been years of terrible service and nothing changes. This is the worst fast food sub I have ever tasted. The pictures on the ads are completely misleading. It looks like the meatball sub is placed under a broiler but that is not true. The staff told be all they do is toast the soft wonder bread bun and steam the sub. I told her that the ad on television shows a toaster sub with browned cheese on top. Her response was "we have an ad?" The "New York" sub was an extremely small single slice of processed corned beef and pastrami along with way to much mayo. The Italian sub had more meat but had so much mayo that the meat slid out from the bun on the first attempted bite. This sub shop is at the bottom of the fast food sub shops..(Subway, etc) read more

I cannot abide Subway. That being said, I can safely say Firehouse is just a lateral step to the left of Subway. The concept of supporting our local public safety officers by purchasing food from this establishment is a nice touch. So money not completely wasted. The sandwiches sound good on paper. I ordered The Engineer, turkey and cheese on wheat, and husband ordered the pastrami and beef combo, the name escapes me. Both *looked* good, but the flavor was completely lacking. My daughter, the former super-carnivore-turned-vegetarian-again, was not so lucky. She ordered the broccoli and cheese soup and side salad with BALSAMIC VINAIGRETTE DRESSING (I have this capitalized for a reason)with NO TOMATOES. Her salad came with Italian dressing and chock full of tomatoes. (The manager took the order and we specified no tomatoes and repeated ourselves so there would be no questions. ) Food brought to table and the worker beat a hasty retreat, like he KNEW the order was incorrect and didn't want to be blamed for it being wrong. Husband returned salad and was again brought back to table with no tomatoes this time and Italian dressing again. Went to counter to get balsamic dressing but by then everything was almost eaten and the idea of a twice returned side salad was ridiculous. Sorry things were so complicated, guys. I wanted this place to be great. It was clean, staff was courteous. The sandwiches were pretty meh. Basically subway. I might try again but as of this moment I am quite underwhelmed. On the upside they have one of those awesome soda machines to make lime cokes. They have about 200 hot sauces to choose from. They also let you round up your change for charity. All cool gimics. I'm giving them a little bit of a break because it was a Saturday and they looked like they had just gotten slammed. The food was good. We just had a lot of problems. I've never been to a sandwich place that was so complicated to order at. We couldn't just tell the guy at the register we wanted an Italian with just meat and cheese. We had to go over the whole menu and tell him what we didn't want on it. It was just kind of annoying and he was kind of impatient with us (it wasn't that busy when we got there). The place was dirty. No lids for drinks, no tables cleaned off, etc. The club was good, the Italian was ok, as was the NY steamer but I don't need to go back again, especially when we have so many other good sandwich places in Kzoo. read more

I asked for it cold and asked for it to be cut into three pieces. I then pulled around to the pay window where I sat for over 5 minutes and no one ever appeared. I had to call them on the phone to ask if someone was going to come take my money and give me my order. Ordered two sandwiches, two large drinks, and two cookies. Upon picking up the order was told it would be $50. When I questioned why so high I was told it was because I had ordered three sandwiches. Once I started correcting them and relayed my order to them , they got very aggressive stating pretty much that I was wrong on what I had ordered. I had a second person that I work with over hear my order and confirmed it. They proceeded to get aggressive and threw in the third sandwich anyway since it was already made. I appreciate the extra but definitely definitely not needed with a side of rude when I just tried to correct them on my order. So every time that I go to fire house, they take forever. Now don't get me wrong there food taste great. But if I'm going through a drive-through there is no reason why I should wait more than five minutes to get through the drive-through. This time I ordered two sandwiches two drinks and chips. It took her five minutes just to take the payment, then she hands me my sandwich and is like your all set, umm no I'm not I don't even have my drinks or my chips.
