    Hook & Ladder

Out on a site visit and it was pushing lunch time and the group picked Firehouse Subs. This was my first time here. We were welcomed when coming in. Ordering was quick and easy. I got the hook and ladder with smoked turkey breast and honey ham smothered with Monterey Jack, mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion, deli mustard, and a pickle spear on the side and I added some heat as it is called Firehouse Subs. The sub and the meats were warm and not salty. I got the combo that includes a drink and chips. This is a good choice for lunch.

Got a combo with a brownie. Yum

The food was great and the service was amazing (I had a HERO fully involved, my wife had a Steak and Cheese). The food cane out so fast and they were serving a while basketball team when we ordered. I will recommend them to anyone in the Bradenton area, especially if you have an event like tourneys at IMG Academy or a local high school. Bottom line, this was an unexpected and awesome surprise.

I love their subs! I ordered the small hook and ladder sandwich, while my husband ordered a large Italian combo. I forgot that they bring the food to your table, so I was standing there waiting for our food and the cashier told the next 2 customers that the small sandwich they ordered was very small and that they may want to consider a medium. Wonder why she didn't tell me that? She is right, it's extremely small and I had a few bites of my husband's sandwich. Next time I will have to remember the size, because there will be a next time. They are good!

The food was absolutely disgusting. Soggy bread sloppily put together into a mess. Absolutely disgusting.

The only thing that would make their meatball sub better would be bread from Mazzaros in St. Pete.

I wasn't sure what to expect when seeing the storefront because it's in a strip mall. We sat down in the booth-type seats to the left and found that they were sticky which kind of put me off a little, but I decided to still try it after reading all these reviews. All of the tables were clean and the actual restaurant was clean too. We ordered a single patty burger (for my 4 year old), 2 original Betty sandwiches with sweet potato fries, garlic Parmesan fries, and the bacon cheeseburger. The sweet potato fries were the best. I was wishing for some maple dipping sauce other than what we got. The bread on the chicken sandwich was a bit stale and the ratio of bread to chicken was off for me, however the chicken was delicious.. I was really wishing for a different bun. Same thing with all of our sandwiches... we felt like the bread overpowered the rest of it. I asked for no sauce and ended up getting the sauce... which was fine but I really just wanted to taste the chicken. I will definitely be back to try some other items on the menu! Give it a try if you're in the area!

But let's talk about the food, beginning with the off brand ketchup. Not Heinz. Rookie mistake. I'm from Philadelphia where the argument is always whose cheesesteaks do you prefer--Jim's or Pat's? If you're from Phila, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. My guess is that the chefs here have never been to Jim's nor Pat's to experience a real Philly cheesesteak. Although you can customize it, the cheesesteak is offered with shaved American, onions and hot peppers. Authentic Philly cheesesteaks have freshly chopped onions and GREEN peppers (not hot) with Cheese Whiz--which is how I ordered mine. They were happy to accommodate. Unfortunately, the balance of the entire sandwich was off. The onions were sparse and the green peppers tasted canned, not fresh. The whiz was not really noticeable, and it was all served on a room temperature roll--not warm, not toasted. A true South Philly cheesesteak is a hearty sandwich stuffed with meat, a healthy serving of fresh sauteed vegetables and dripping with cheese. I was served an okay steak sandwich that did not remind me of a culinary experience in South Philly. There's a reason the line for Jim's goes around the block even though there are dozens of tables and that people go to Pat's in the middle of winter to order from the outdoor walk up window. We had no trouble getting seated at one of the few tables in South Philly Cheesesteaks.
