Remember, patience is a virtue. The sandwiches are great. The restaurant is kept clean. The staff is friendly and professional. However, the service can be on the slow side. However, keep in mind that everything is freshly made. I've watched them and they do not dawdle. They are moving those sandwiches down the assembly line very smoothly. I wonder if adding another person would expedite the production. So, if you're in a hurry, I recommend using their app to place your order before you arrive. I've created my own sandwich in the past, but today I went with their, New York Steamer. Yum-Yum. It's a hot deli-style sub with corned beef brisket and pastrami (my favorite deli meat), melted provolone cheese, deli mustard, mayo and Italian dressing. All that goodness is pressed between a toasted sub roll (I choose, wheat). I live about a mile and a half from the Firehouse and when I got home, it was still toasty warm. The pairing of beef brisket and pastrami was a winning combination. I pretty confident, I'll be ordering this one again. I've never made a combo, but I like that they have Miss Vicki's as a choice of chips. They also, have the typical Lay's potato chips, too. If you donate $4 you can get yourself an empty pickle bucket. The donation goes to support first responders and safety organizations. Mine comes in handy when doing yard work. Also, be sure to sign up for the rewards program. You can accumulate points towards free food. We all like free. I was just at the Firehouse Subs and the cashier placed my drink cup upside down on the counter. When I asked for a cup that is not upside down she just flipped it. When I said, no I'd just like a new cup that is not upside down, she swapped my cup and put the dirty cup back in the pile with the clean cups. The same girl was making my sandwich and using the gloves to clean off the counters then went back to making my sandwich. Gross! . read more

A take out order of 2 sandwiches. One meatball with pepperoni and one smokehouse. Both had caramelized and peppers. Not only did neither sandwich get the onions or peppers, there were no banana peppers or olives on the meatball sub. I called and was told there were no caramelized veggies available. Instead of calling the number on the account, or informing me at pick up,bthey prepared the sandwiches improperly and put the bag in the pick up area. Of course, I didn't notice the mistake until I got home. The excuse I was given was that it's lunch time and they didn't have time to call. She also said the toppings are free so I wasn't shorted. I told her I was shorted the eating experience I ordered. I asked what do we do now? She said I could come back and she could remake it or give a refund. HORRIBLE SERVICE. Placed an order at 8:00 p.m., and still waiting at 9:45 p.m. Reached out to driver in que, but non working number. I text the Keith guy on the site set to deliver product, and he writes back and says, "picking up now" and 9:30 p.m., then turn right around and say, "Firehouse Subs is closed". Scam at its Finest. Contacting company headquarters in the a.m., as well as BBB. This was fraud/theft. They took my money online and I have no product. Went there 5/26/2022 and ordered a Large Italian Sub. Workers friendly, atmosphere great. Got home and saw that all the meat and cheese in the sandwich was missing. I had a sub of lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, onion. I called and they asked if I could come back today and they'll make another one for me, but I had to get back to work, and quite frankly couldn't spare the gas either (thanks Joe). I had to eat what I got. I am not sure how you can miss including half the sandwich unless there was something else going on which I am not going to speculate about. It's a shame. Love the sandwiches but GOOD LORD this place is slow. Sitting in the lobby waiting for my online order to be finished 15 minutes after my projected pickup time. There are 3 other customers in the lobby waiting for their sandwiches as well and no one else. We tried going in to eat lunch and waited for 10 minutes before anyone even spoke to us. While waiting we heard the employees talk about how no one shows up for work, doesnt do there work, etc. Once someone did make contact they let us know that there will be a wait "no more than 30 minutes". During this whole time the 3 employees that were there were moving VERY slowly, gossiping the whole time. There was zero sense of urgency. After leaving we went across the street to Jimmy Johns, who had the same amount of employees. We were able to get our order in and get our food withing 5 minutes. I understand that everyone is having a hard time getting/keeping employees - and we were going to give them the benefit of the doubt. But that was the worst sevice I have ever had at a Firehouse store. read more

I thought I'd try this place out since most of the restaurants in Alton would be busy today. Plus I'm always willing to try new sandwiches from wherever. I found this place located in the half-dead strip mall along Homer Adams Parkway in Alton. Very attractive name, so why not? The workers were friendly and very helpful in choosing what was most popular (the Hook and Ladder (#1) was most popular with all locations and the Smokehouse Brisket one (#10) was popular locally. I decided to go with the latter, and I took advantage of the add-ons. They have the same kind of chip selection as Jimmy John's, which wasn't too bad. They have the Coke Remix machine, but for some reason all the drinks came out tasting like crap (Alton flouride, anyone?). Even their exclusive drink, the Cherry Limeade tasted so weak. The sandwich was okay, nothing special. It didn't taste any different than all the other places. I do like the big hot sauce selection they offer for the patrons. As a hot sauce lover, I was digging it. But for some reason, I wasn't that impressed with the food. Especially for how much I paid. Oh well. This place gets extra points for paying tribute to a division of America's heroes, the firefighters. You'll get a great fireman theme throughout the place. read more

My husband and I ordered sandwiches for pickup today, which we do a couple times a month. His pastrami was well-made with a good portion of deli meat. My tuna... well at first I thought they entirely forgot the tuna! Pulled it apart to find a tiny spoonful on each half-- absolutely laughable amount of filling! I order this sandwich regularly and it's NEVER like that. He took it back and asked for a remake,l. The assistant managers said "it's our portion size", and never apologized or offered either a refund or a remake. So $7 for a teaspoon of tuna, and apathetic response from the employees... you ARE KIDDING ME!! Customer service standards and quality need an overhaul in this location. read more

Super clean atmosphere, I love this chain and this store is no exception! Whenever I want a good sub, Firehouse is my first choice.

This place is a double dipper for me. You can get a great sandwich and donate to a non profit at the same time. The have about 10 featured sub sandwiches, and half of them come are offered in a lighter version. I like the Hook and Ladder light (which means mustard instead of mayo) which is tasty and filling. Chips and drinks are additional, bonus they have the fountain soda machine that dispenses every soda that man can imagine. Plus a part of your purchase goes to BackStoppers. It may seem a little heavy on the price, but I feel that it is a good bang for my buck. My sandwich is always over flowing with turkey and veggies. Give it a try... read more

Been here plenty of times and it was a fine experience, but at 7:00 pm on a Friday evening there were 3 workers who seemed to not work faster or harder when faced with around 10 orders at the time. i have been waiting here 45 minutes to get my food and the staff doesnt seem to care. maybe they need an extra worker i dont know. but terrible experience only reason i give it 2 stars is due to my love for the food read more
