a plate of pasta, breadsticks and dipping sauce
    David L.

I truly believe a can Chef Boyardee is more authentic and flavorful. At least the can has a picture of an Italian. The mozzarella bights at warm not hot rock hard. The can pasta flavor of the baked special with meat was horrible. The bread sticks texture and floriferous made we question if they where soaked in second rate corn oil. On the plus side dinner with a appetizer and large drink for $13.63. It's cheep so I guess they earned the one star you have to give. Quite frankly the value is better at Taco Bell.

I used to hate this place for years and after many many years of boycotting I am giving them five stars. My better half convinced me to try it again a couple of years ago and I can say that the food is always good, hot, fresh and delicious although the Fettuccini Alfredo could use a bit more sauce. Keep it up!

We're in town for the boat races & this afternoon my husband's engine came right off the back of the boat. While thankful it wasn't at the bottom of the Mississippi, getting it back on was more than a chore. Hot, tired & hard at work, we had a couple of teams to feed. We called in a large order & we were accommodated within half an hour, at a reasonable price & it's safe to say, it's the best pizza any of us have ever had. 12 people, 2 families, 2 racing teams, we all agreed. We weren't "just" hot. We weren't "just" hungry. It was literally JUST that good! We will absolutely see yall next year! -Diamond Z Racing

We had no expectations but we were hungry. What a wonderful Plan B this turned out to be. It was mid-afternoon so the place was relatively quiet, in a pleasant way.Everything was clean and the dining room looked inviting. We seated ourselves and the waitress quickly came to take our order for drinks and food. She suggested the day's special, a personal pizza with two toppings, side salad, and a drink. It sounded great was was a real bargain so we both went with it. The wife ordered a simple cheese pizza and I ordered mine with sausage and mushrooms. In very short order, our salads were presented and they were delicious. The lettuce and vegetables were all very fresh, not the sad looking stuff you frequently see at other restaurants mid winter. Even the croutons were delicious, light and with just the right amount of crispness. Next came our pizzas piping hot. We both loved them .They came on a thin cracker type crust, my favorite, sauce was sparingly applied but tasty, and the Italian sausage on my pizza had wonderful flavor with just a light kick to it. My wife truly enjoyed her cheese pizza as well. We'll definitely be coming back. I'm tempted to try their Italian beef sandwich next time. It was highly recommended by the staff.

After my flavorful Italian Sausage and Jalapeños pizza today, I will call Joe before a national chain. It was National Mom and Pop Business Day and my local Joe's posted a picture of their owners on Facebook and it prompted me to order. So I got on their website and ordered my favorite, Sausage & Jalapeño Small Thin Crust Pizza. When I order pizza from any pizza joint, I always add special instructions. I am not a fan of "square" cut and request mine to be cut "pie", the traditional way to serve pizza. My Italian Sausage was spicy, the sauce had zing to it and there was plenty of jalapeños. The jalapeños even had some crunch to them, which tells me, they were fresh. Then of course, the mozzarella cheese was plentiful on top of everything. The website was user friendly and when I arrived, the young ladies working the front counter were friendly and polite. Good pizza and friendly service will have me ordering pick-up again. Sure I can have them deliver, but I don't mind the short drive to pick it up myself. Support your local mom and pop businesses.

There's nothing wrong with that, but sometimes you need to change things up. Last night, I did just that. I even changed up my adult beverage. My new adult beverage of choice was a, Sapphire Gin and Tonic. I've been gradually switching from vodka to gin and this was a smooth and refreshing cocktail. I was craving scallops my favorite seafood, but did not want the entree that comes with, lobster risotto. So I ventured out and tried the, Shrimp & Scallops with Portobello Mushrooms and Asparagus. It was sautéed in butter, garlic, shallots, red chili flakes and lemon. It was then served over a bed of linguine. I may have found a new favorite dish. Or at least, a new dish added to my rotation. I loved how four toppings were kept separate from each other. The three sea scallops satisfied my craving, the asparagus was prepared with a snap to it, the four shrimp were huge and the mushrooms balanced out the dish. The chili flakes, gave the dish an extra kick, that I really liked. Kept my salad the same as always, House Salad with House Dressing. The service at the bar was excellent. The bartenders are always friendly and professional. I like that they have a food server and a designated bus person behind the bar, so the mixologist can focus on making those refreshing cocktails.

I even noticed one reviewer repeatedly updating a one-star review after multiple visits, which made me wonder--if you dislike a place that much, why keep coming back? Our waitress was incredibly kind and attentive. She proactively kept us updated when there was a slight delay and checked on us throughout the meal without being intrusive. The restaurant itself was beautifully themed, and everything felt well thought out and cohesive. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and would gladly return.

A while back when I went in for my regular fix of a Pork Tenderloin Sandwich, the waitress asked me if I ever tried the grilled. When I said, no, she told me I had to give it a try. So, I did and now it is my way of ordering a Pork Tenderloin Sandwich. The piece of grilled meat is as big as the fried. It hangs off the bun. All you need to add is some white onion, pickles and lettuce. Some add a tomato, but that's not my thing. Also, just like when I enjoy a fried Pork Tenderloin, I upgrade to fries. Chips just don't do it for me. The service is always top notch. The ladies working are always so friendly. They make everyone feel comfortable while dining. Jimmy taught his staff well. I miss him always being there, but the ladies are making sure his legacy lives on. Another big plus when you come to, Johnsons Corner is the other patrons. It truly is a neighborhood bar. Sorry but I have to say it. I'd read a similar review before I ordered but I knew JCorners and I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. Nope. $17 after tax and tip - for just a salad and it has NO meat. ONE anchovy slice. Literally ONE black olive ... a sprinkling of cheese. And a whole lot of [admittedly fresh] lettuce and croutons. Was so looking forward to this salad. Very sad & disappointed in an Alton staple business. The other reviewer had pretty much the exact same experience with the exact same order and said her waitress (mine was a to-go order) blamed it on a new chef. But the chef can't be "new" for long. And making a salad is pretty darn basic cooking-101. Doubt I'll be back. Jimmy would be so disappointed. May he rest in peace

When I saw they had hot honey and pepperoni paired together on a 8" pizza, I instantly knew that was one of my choices. The fresh mozzarella and ricotta cheeses paired with the hot honey and pepperoni exploded with flavor. My only disappointment was the inner crust. The outer rim crust was very crispy, but the inner was soft and limp due to the excessive grease from the flavorful pepperoni. I guess that is something I just need to deal with for a tasty lunch pizza. My other choice was, the Apple Gorgonzola Salad. Wow. Double Wow! This has to be the best salad I have ever had. It was a delightful mix of, spinach, granny smith apple, gorgonzola, sun-dried cranberries, candied pecans, all topped with a delicious maple cider vinaigrette. I will be back for the large version and a glass of Pino Grigio as a dinner. As my usual, I sat at the bar. My adult beverage of choice, was a Peel Summer Lager. I may be going back to fill my growler, for the upcoming holiday weekend. The restaurant has a contemporary feel, but the acoustics make it a loud environment. I didn't mind the laughter and loud conversations, it was the yelling and crying toddlers that made me cringe. Service was friendly and attentive. I enjoyed watching the bartenders use their mixologist skills preparing all the cocktails. It pleased me to see they offer "hooks under the bar". That's a small detail that makes me smile.
