Decaro's is a wonderful surprise. We initially intended to eat at another restaurant in the area but it was closed for the day. Decaro's became a hastily decided Plan B. We had no expectations but we were hungry. What a wonderful Plan B this turned out to be. It was mid-afternoon so the place was relatively quiet, in a pleasant way.Everything was clean and the dining room looked inviting. We seated ourselves and the waitress quickly came to take our order for drinks and food. She suggested the day's special, a personal pizza with two toppings, side salad, and a drink. It sounded great was was a real bargain so we both went with it. The wife ordered a simple cheese pizza and I ordered mine with sausage and mushrooms. In very short order, our salads were presented and they were delicious. The lettuce and vegetables were all very fresh, not the sad looking stuff you frequently see at other restaurants mid winter. Even the croutons were delicious, light and with just the right amount of crispness. Next came our pizzas piping hot. We both loved them .They came on a thin cracker type crust, my favorite, sauce was sparingly applied but tasty, and the Italian sausage on my pizza had wonderful flavor with just a light kick to it. My wife truly enjoyed her cheese pizza as well. We'll definitely be coming back. I'm tempted to try their Italian beef sandwich next time. It was highly recommended by the staff. read more

So, my food was VERY tasty, but that's about it. Service was lousy. Really had trouble getting our server to wait on us and to flag her down once we did order. The ambiance is lacking. Just not a very nice place, seemed pretty run down. Definitely not a favorite of mine. read more

Decaro's takes St Louis Thin Crust Pizza and kicks it up to another level. Their sauce has a spicy kick and the sprinkling of Parmesan Cheese on top of the Provel gives it a bonus of flavor. My recent lunch carry-out was a small pepperoni pizza and a small dinner salad. The pizza was done perfectly, the crust had a crispy crunch and every bite had a slice of pepperoni. Their dinner salad was simply a mix of iceberg and Romaine lettuce, with shredded provel, parmesan, tomato, onion and a pepperoncini. For my dressing, I always go with Decaro's Creamy Italian. It's extra thick and mixes well with the salad greens. Dining in or picking up a carry-out, the staff is professional and friendly. I pass three pizza joints when I come for a carry-out and I can easily say it is worth the extra miles for a quality thin crust pizza. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for awhile. Fox2 news had a special coupon where you spend $25.00 and get $50.00 worth of food. I thought it was the perfect opportunity to try. I went today I ordered a half cheese half sausage and pepperoni over the phone. However when I arrive for pickup it was half sausage half cheese, no biggie. I also ordered a small house salad with the house dressing. Everything was pretty good, the tangy pizza sauce grew on me. Wasn't sure what to make of it at first. My 5 year old approved also. This place is a great option for a quality, low-cost dinner out in Alton. Thanks to Yelp, I convinced my mother in law to try out this new spot and we weren't disappointed. Parking is plentiful, the inside is spacious and can accommodate groups of 2 to 20, service is extremely attentive, and the prices are insanely decent. My sizable serving of Chicken Parm was only $12 and I was stuffed by the time I finished. I would describe the food quality as your mother's home cooking; certainly not upscale, but comforting and delicious. Will definitely return for another family dinner sometime. read more

Discovered this place because of the Pizza of passport. The pizza and the salad were so good. Especially the house salad dressing is delicious. Service is great. The waitresses brag about the good food served. Went back to try the Chicken Parmesan. The picture I took does not do it justice. The sauce was amazing (thick, not runny) and the chicken was done to perfection. Portion size was enough for two. Prices are reasonable and they give great pours of wine. I so so wanted my experience to be good at Decaro's. I live just blocks away and I so want to support my local businesses. But they blew it big time. Sorry but I'll never bother with them again. I went down just after work on Friday night. I told the teen worker that I wanted to do carry out. I ordered an Italian sub and an Italian beef sandwich. I was very excited to taste their Italian beef as it was my favorite from my time living in Chicago. I ordered it "hot" which means to have the hot giardiniara on it. ( the other is sweet peppers ) The young hostess then informed me it was going to be 40 minutes. I was a little taken aback but I thought I could walk about town for a while. I returned and got my food 40 minutes later and walked home. My wife's Italian sub had exactly one tomato slice on it and was mostly bread. Subway puts more on a sandwich. But my Italian beef angered me so much I almost walked it back. It was a roast beef sandwich. With obviously grocery store roast beef. No giardiniara No beef that's been simmering in Italian seasoned jus all day. It was STORE BOUGHT ROAST BEEF! IT WAS NOT ITALIAN BEEF and it even had a little cup of au jus! THATS ROAST BEEF PEOPLE NOT ITALIAN BEEF!! They didn't even follow their own menu. AND THEY MADE ME WAIT 40 MINUTES FOR THE WRONG THING! I don't know about you but that is an absolutely unacceptable mistake. I so wanted it to be my local Italian spot. I could see myself going there a lot. It's 2 blocks away. Nope. Decaro's came highly recommended by friends, so we were excited to try it. We ordered food to go and my husband was there to pick it up when it was ready. We ordered a chef salad and penne pasta in alfredo sauce with chicken. I do realize that carry out is not the same as dining in, but we were hugely disappointed. The penne pasta had very little alfredo sauce and almost no chicken, even though we had paid the extra for it. It definitely needed seasoning on it. The bread sent was stale - very hard. It smelled like it would have been good fresh, but even heating it up it was too hard to eat. The salad was lacking, but the dressing was excellent. I did call, and was asked to hold for a manager. After holding for several minutes, someone hung up on me. It wasn't worth my time to call back. We will not eat there again. read more

First time that I ordered a pizza from this restaurant, my son had an appointment at the disability clinic next-door, and I decided to order a pizza to go. I went in to DeCaro's to pick it up my order. the waitress insisted that I cash out at the door, even though I wanted to sit at the bar and she could check me out there while I waited for my pizza, but she said she couldn't check me out at the bar, but I went back there anyway. And I sat there until she came back and asked her why she was being so difficult and making things so hard . I said I can't believe that you can't ring out in order back here at the bar these people sitting at the bar ordering well that's for in-house orders only Well I don't know if that's true or not but that's what she said , gave her my card so she could ring it up but at that point, she could've told me, I'll let you know when your pizza is ready and you can cash out in front. if you care to sit in the bar. I would've ordered something to drink while I was waiting, but she was so rude I didn't and then another young woman short blonde came in acting all big, bad and tough took CNB blue pen ,that they had given me to sign my check stub that was still on the bar and just threw it underneath the counter somewhere , apparently she's got some personal/ mental problems and was triggered by a blue pen. Taking out her rage and frustration. But beside all of that, it was the worst pizza I've ever had in my life and it's a square pizza, so if you like square pizza go for it . I have never in my life seen a square / rectangle pizza at a real Italian establishment. There's other local restaurants that deserve your support! Decaro's is a JOKE! Service was terrible and food was cold and awful! If you need a place near by, try Brown Bag Bistro! It's good comes out hot and delicious and their staff won't treat you poorly! Our experience started by getting a young waitress that seemed clueless about how to provide service. Upon receiving menus, we asked for the lunch special, which was not listed but always a previous option. The girl I formed us there were only 22.95 specials with large pizzas. We continued to ask providing information about the normal lunch special, small pizza, salad and drink. She said no we don't have anything like that. So we opted to just get the smallest pizza on menu which was a medium at 10.95 (we ONLY order cheese, no additional toppings and no extra cheese). Also what changed was the cheese, which used to be mozzarella. We continued to wait and wait and wait for our food-at least the one salad we ordered, we thought would have already come out. Bread normal comes to the table with this as well. We received none. So it was asked for. The bread is not what it used to be either, so don't get too excited. Upon waiting again, for our food to arrive. I overhear the kitchen/waitresses say whose is this pizza and kids meal? So yep, I knew it was ours and sure enough, it's cold and actually quite soggy! Big disappointment from the man who came out previously and said "we have the BEST pizza around, Romas has nothing on us!" BIGGEST LIE IVE EVER HEARD!! If you have the chance to go to Bethalto for pizza, Do it! Romas is 100000x better!!! Unless you enjoy Cold, soggy, lifeless pizza? Continuing our experience we over hear a close table ask for the lunch specials and their waitress kindly ask what salad dressing, what to drink...because By Golly, they DO HAVE a lunch special!!!! It's 10.99, just to clarify. So now, we have a 3.99 salad, a 10.95 cheese pizza, and a 2.50 soda....all which should have been 10.99 for the darn lunch special!!! Well at this point I'm frustrated, I ask to talk to the manager. A manager comes out, we start to tell him our issues and that maybe their waitress needs to know this. Without even an apology, he says, well I can take off $5, that'll be about the price. Umm, okay, whatever. Well we receive the bill (after asking for it), the pizza is rang in as 12.44, the salad 3.99, the soda 2.50 and then our additional soda and kids meal 5.99. With a $5 off, that would barely cover the salad. Mind you, now, I have a new problem, why is my pizza an additional cost???? On the menu it's 10.95? How does it now go up and yet, you're supposed to be covering the issue of your employee not allowing us the special we wanted in the first place, which is the same amount of food that you get with the lunch special (minus the slight increase in pizza size-which was not needed!). In our frustration, we pay the bill and leave, but this is a CAUTION for all who decide to dine here! Oh and did I mention we hear again from the kitchen the staff complaining and talking about us? Yes, so if you like a disrespectful, dishonest, down right crappy eatery, enjoy Decaros! Side note: I normally provide awesome reviews and love to encourage and support my local eateries-which I have some great suggestions above too-but this place doesn't deserve it. read more

This pizza is great. It puts its own spin on a couple of the north county provel pizza locations. The toppings were fresh and it had plenty of flavor. I would compare it to a higher fresher quality Imos. A large pizza was plenty for two, vs Imos leaving you a little hungry. The creamy Italian on the salad was very good. I'm usually not a fan of sweet creamy dressings, but this was exceptional. We saw a deal on Facebook for 2 pizzas, garlic bread, and really big salad for $27. It left plenty for leftovers. We will definitely be back when we're in the mood for provel pizza. read more

First time here and we're impressed. Friendly greeting just the beginning of a great dining experience. The house salad with the house creamy Italian dressing a good starter.
