Bill Murphy retired Huntington Beach
Charlie C.

I came for the ccw class, I checked out a "loaner holster" under my name for the duration of the 8 hour class. During lunch i was limping slowly (knee injury) back to my vehicle at which i was stopped by Bill Murphy. Bill with the upmost attitude demanded i return the holster because i was leaving, i replied i wasnt leaving Im here for the class. Bill was not wearing a uniform like the rest of the employees. When i returned to the class Bill cursed, talked down and berated me. Then he threatened me with my completion cert. because i "didnt follow the rules". There is no posted sign or rule about "loaner holsters". If you meet Bill you will clearly see how he can discriminate against you based on race and religion, retired Huntington Beach cop. I was refused my cert. after successfully completing the coarse and given no refund. They stole my money all together after i spent the whole day there and completed the class. If you look like me think twice before coming here. Brandon on the other hand was a solid instructor, i did enjoy the class. Ive been robbed, requesting my money back

My husband and I both took the CCW course then just recently took the CCW scenarios course. The CCW two day class was informative and helpful. The CCW scenarios is one of the most fun tactical training classes I have ever taken! Marking paint guns are used and there are real scenarios set up and it was just a great learning experience. We may have several welts from the marking bullets but it was worth it! If you take the scenarios class WEAR GLOVES. Every student without gloves had finger/hand wounds. Bill is tough, but guns and safety should be taken seriously and he has been nothing but respectful in every class I've been in.

I recently attended the Basic Firearms Safety class and I enjoyed every minute of it. It was so educational Tim is a great teacher, he explained everything very well and in detail. Thanks to all the staff especially to Art who taught me very well on the firing range and for his patience. The staff made it a fun atmosphere, Makes me want to take more classes. Thank you all.

Art is the man! Great instructor. Location is a bit off the beaten path. Bring bug spray during the warmer seasons.

Ask the Community - Firearms Training Associates

If you take the class, and pass everything, including background checks, do they do all the paperwork and send it in for a Ca. ccw? Or do I still need to go through the sheriff department?

CCW must be initiated and applied at your county's Sheriff Department. Taking the class is pretty much the last step in the process. https://lasd.org/ccw/

Anyone take the Active Shooter and Counter Terrorism Response Seminar? If you have can you please tell me how your experience was / what you learned in the class?…

Excellent training. Been going to these folks for two years now. Basically there will be a lecture from a couple counter terror experts. One is a LA CO sheriff Lieutenant the other runs a security firm. Both gentlemen presented material that was… Read more

My family and I visited Raahauge's yesterday and had an amazing experience. We started with the…read moresporting clays course and then spent the afternoon at the shooting gallery range. The sporting clays were a blast, but what really made the day memorable were the two staff members who assisted us at the shooting gallery on the afternoon of June 22, 2026. Both employees were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. They maintained a safe, well-run range while going above and beyond to help everyone have a great experience. One staff member noticed that my mom's shirt wasn't suitable for the range and generously provided her with a spare shirt he had available. He also took the time to help my cousin replace a spring on his firearm after noticing it needed attention. The other staff member gave our group an excellent safety briefing that was both informative and entertaining. Later, he spent time giving my mom, aunt, and cousin a short lesson with their pistols after noticing they were struggling to hit the targets. Thanks to his coaching, all three were soon ringing the steel targets consistently, and they were absolutely thrilled. He even provided my mom with heavier-duty hearing protection when she mentioned the noise level was bothering her. The entire range was operated safely and professionally, and these two staff members truly stood out because of their patience, expertise, and willingness to help. Their customer service turned a fun day into a fantastic one. We are very grateful for their help and will definitely be returning to Raahauge's in the future. Highly recommended!

Been coming here for around 2 years and the last couple experiences broke the camel's back for me…read more I did like this place. Never had an issue with the cashiers, sad to hear other people's experiences with them. The area is nice and spacious which is why I liked going here, you get your own bay and usually nobody bothers you. For 2 hours you'll pay 32 buck with cash and 37 with card. The wait can be brutal so get there early in the morning. There was a group of 4 of us this one time. The 2 older Range Officers, a middle aged Asian American guy and an old geezer probably in his 60s, they kept annoying us and tried multiple times flirting with our chick friend in the group. The chick friend told me she's goin' to stick next to me, so the Range Officers would stop interacting with her. Never had the Range Officers give my group this much attention. Long story short that broke the camel's back for me. I was at the 50 yard bay shooting a pistol with one hand, at a steel target provided by the range. Shot one handed here before with no issues. A younger Range Officer yelled at me and said what I was doing. I calmly replied back with no demeanor or with a rude attitude. I guess he didn't like me replying back to him when I answered his questions, then the middle aged Asian American Range Officer quickly comes up to talk to me. I replied calmly to him too, I apologized to deescalate the situation and he still kept being a fat d*ckhead. Then the old geezer Range Officer in his 60s who talks like he has sh*t stuck up his ass, I think he's the master of them, comes up to the bay and talks to me. He also didn't like it when I calmly replied back, it made him even more mad. If ya have a tough skin you'll be fine. The Range Officers are rude, except for one. Don't talk back to the Range Officers, they don't like it haha. Maybe you'll have a better experience here than I have. Won't be coming back here sadly.

I was visiting from out of town (Oakland, CA) and stopped in to shoot. It was a weekend afternoon,…read moreso there was a bit of a wait. All in all, it was worth the wait. The staff were welcoming and friendly. It sounded like they made special accommodations for myself and some other shooters, by opening up the "tactical" range, since there were no members shooting at that time. That was awesome, because it got me on the range sooner. I also brought with me a new firearm - Canik Mete MC9LS with a new optic. I forgot my regular range bag with my tools; however, the range staff allowed me to use one of their tools to adjust my new optic. I don't know how the targets move on the regular range, but on the tactical range, you can push buttons to automatically set the targets at a specified distance, move the targets manually back and forth, and automatically have the target return. Best of all, the prices were very reasonable. $20 per lane and $0.50 targets - WAAAAAY better than prices in the Bay Area. If I were a resident of the area, I'd definitely become a member. (I overheard one of the staff members informing another customer of the benefits and price.). Top Notch outfit in my opinion.

I was interested in learning proper firearms etiquette, and had an opportunity to do so at Evan's…read moreGun World. I attended their intro to handguns class, covering the basics of safety and proper form, and getting in some introductory shooting experience. John, our instructor, was very engaging and great at commanding attention when needed and building up the class's confidence. Afterward, I took them up on their 'newbie' offer of free range time and rental after class. Kevin signed me up for a lane, let me rent a couple of handgun models I researched previously, and critiqued my targets, giving some general feedback and advice. He also pointed me toward a couple other models that are known to be more friendly to left-handed shooters that I can test out in the future. Great place; a little on the older and smaller sides, but staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and attentive. I get the feeling that as I 'shop around' for my go-to range there's a strong chance I will gravitate back here, since these guys are passionate about what they do, and seem to want to inspire that passion in others. Definitely will make it a point to stop by again.
