I came for the ccw class, I checked out a "loaner holster" under my name for the duration of the 8 hour class. During lunch i was limping slowly (knee injury) back to my vehicle at which i was stopped by Bill Murphy. Bill with the upmost attitude demanded i return the holster because i was leaving, i replied i wasnt leaving Im here for the class. Bill was not wearing a uniform like the rest of the employees. When i returned to the class Bill cursed, talked down and berated me. Then he threatened me with my completion cert. because i "didnt follow the rules". There is no posted sign or rule about "loaner holsters". If you meet Bill you will clearly see how he can discriminate against you based on race and religion, retired Huntington Beach cop. I was refused my cert. after successfully completing the coarse and given no refund. They stole my money all together after i spent the whole day there and completed the class. My husband and I both took the CCW course then just recently took the CCW scenarios course. The CCW two day class was informative and helpful. The CCW scenarios is one of the most fun tactical training classes I have ever taken! Marking paint guns are used and there are real scenarios set up and it was just a great learning experience. We may have several welts from the marking bullets but it was worth it! If you take the scenarios class WEAR GLOVES. Every student without gloves had finger/hand wounds. I put a deposit down for a renewal class for CCW that is scheduled for over a month away. I am unable to take that class and asked for a refund of my deposit of $50. The reply I received was that they do not give any refunds. I feel this is bad business practice as it is over for a month cancellation notice. I am waiting to hear from someone else if they will consider giving a refund. I did not see anywhere on the website where it says there is no refund. I understand no refund if it is short notice, but like I said it is over a month notice. I definitely would not use this company just for this refund policy. I cannot speak to their training but see that they have great reviews. I would hope that there would be a better business practice of refunds with a company that does a great job with training. If I receive my refund, I will definitely update my review, but as it stands, I would not recommend this company. read more

Plus they have the ability to add 3 other states besides California for a fantastic price. I will be signing up again and sending more people here. I signed up for a 2 day women's self defense and pistol shooting class. If you know how to get to Rauhauges keep going and follow the curve in road to the area where FTA is. Parking was easy and someone was out there to help facilitate. The class is offered only 2 times a year. Once in the spring and once in the fall and I would recommend the spring since fall in CA is still super hot. Continental breakfast is : bagels & cream cheese, string cheese, fruit, coffee. There was also nature valley bars, Kit Kat candy and shasta cola. Day 1: Bill told stories and went over some of the handbook we were given. After lunch we were offered loaner Glock 17 or 19s and started doing drills on paper targets. We never did introductions at the start of class which would've been cool to know what people do as jobs and why they wanted to take the class. Ccw was offered after class ended for $100 more and 1.5 hours longer of class time. I wished I would've done it so prepare for maybe being offered it again. Knowing in advance would've been helpful. USCCA comes and talks to you right before lunch and it seems like an excellent thing to have as but if you short on cash it's alot of extra that you weren't really prepared to pay. So have extra money if you're planning on coming to any classes. Gun bags stay on range or in your car at all times. Eye protection or sunglasses are worn in the range at all times with zero exceptions. Also if you borrow any holsters, guns, and belts let them put it on you and take it off because you don't want to make any mistakes. Ally and Blake were friendly as well. Brandon was the range master and was encouraging us after most all of the drills. 9mm ammo is $45 a box so BYOA! John is the nicest of the group out on the range. He is super encouraging and super helpful as he gave me many tips. He is not egotistical at all as some gun owners tend to act super prideful. Time is a huge factor so reload mags quickly! Day 2: First half of the class is learning self defense techniques. Don't talk once Bill starts talking or he will tell you to shut up and have you moved across the room to no one you know. After lunch, it is more precise shooting with cardiac and head shots utilizing trigger reset and shooting at steel targets. You're standing so close to other shooters so the likely hood you're gonna get hit with a hot shell casing is high. My friend got burned twice. Both days she was wearing long sleeves but one burned her in the neck and the other went down her shirt and burned her chest. Cheryl teaches an hour of class on some stories about security and importance of having a flashlight and pepper spray. We also got to shoot some of Bills collection so I shot a revolver and a 1911 for the first time. Overall opinion: it's expensive for what it is. I learned a few things but if you're a new shooter I recommend you taking a beginners course or train with someone who knows guns who could get you familiarized with it. Or good ol YouTube university where you can practice at home with firearm & some dummy rounds and can probably get a lot more tips about home security and women's safety ect. & it's FREE. read more

Wow! I am so happy I took my CCW training course here! wonderful family owned company. Very safe. very kind. and very cool! I was very impressed wife the team there. They all know what they are doing. Their #1 priority is safety. I was nervous going in, but so much more confident leaving. The team also doesnt make you feel small because you might not know what you are doing. They are very helpful and help build confidence when using this tool. I have no clue how some CCW courses are only 8 hours long. I am so happy I did the 16 hours. There is so much information to cover in that time and even after 16 hours of class and range work, I still need more training to better myself and practice the fundamentals that Brandon, the range master, taught us. I took the women's self-defense course on Sunday, May 7th, and was tremendously offended and disappointed. The man who instructed the class for the first two hours made several extremely bigoted and inappropriate comments about transwomen. Also, he made distasteful remarks about Colin Kaepernick, Democrats, and undocumented immigrants. His personal hatreds and politics had absolutely nothing to do with self-defense and he wasted a lot of class time expressing his discriminatory views rather than providing instruction. As for the rest of the class - it was a waste of time. The instructor told endless tales of his days as a police officer, including all the horrible things people do to women. What was missing? What we can actually do in any of the circumstances he described. While it's at least somewhat useful to know that a person can throw me to the ground quickly if they grab my hair, I really would've liked to have learned what I could do to try to get away. He taught no physical self-defense and said nothing about mental preparation either. This course was a massive waste of time and money. Finally, I really didn't appreciate being kept a solid 20 minutes past the end of the class so I could sit through an insurance pitch. If the class actually ends around 2:30pm rather than 2pm, that should be posted. Otherwise, it needs to be made clear that the class is over and listening to the insurance saleswoman isn't part of the instruction, which it was made out to be. read more

I attended and completed, with confidence, the Basic Firearms Safety class!! I am so grateful FTA is in business. Overall just stellar. I'm an education focused person and they delivered when it came to classroom curriculum and on the field in practical application. They train various law enforcement agencies and military branches - you're in good hands! PLUS they provide lunch, snacks, water, soda etc etc!!! Christine is amazing, I was nervous but she made me feel calm and confident to step to the firing line! Thank you!!!!! The ghist: They teach you safety and confidence. The entire 6.5 hour day is filled with safe handling, range etiquette, muscle memory and jokes and smiles. If you don't have your own materials they will provide you with all you need. Make sure to book online and be on the watch for their reminder emails so you don't miss or forget your class date - they're popular. Pro tips: They have ample water but bring your own canteen for easy access. They provide a pretty hefty lunch but might want to bring your own if you're vegan - they still have snacks and drinks that are all diet friendly. The meal the provide is pretty awesome. Follow the directions to their facility they send via email or on their website. I used google maps and it took longer with more turn than the direction FTA provides. Enrolled and attended the 2-day CCW class couple weekends ago, and learned a lot regarding CCW laws, pistol manipulation while qualifying for carry. The owner and staff were all awesome, very knowledgeable, and made the entire experience fun! Lotsa takeaways regarding the importance of safe firearms handling, to include clearing malfunctions, reloading, drawing and reholstering. Out on the shooting range, Art was very supportive and reassuring me that I was doing fine and helped me to calm my nerves. My son and I just finished the Live Fire Entry class this last weekend. As expected the staff was great and very helpful. My son had no prior experience with clearing buildings other than us practicing at home. The day started in the classroom, then on to shooting drills on the paper targets. They have a shoot house, which you entered to clear and engage targets inside as appropriate. There was an instructor, Brandon in our case, who followed along behind you offering suggestions and critique. He was very cool about how he provided it and seemed knowledgeable. Also they had a building set up with actors so you could utilize Simunitions to address real people inside as you cleared the building. As a 30 year police veteran I have cleared a few buildings and received quite a bit of training, though I am no high speed-low drag "operator". This training was certainly on par with much that I have had over the years, though there being a very wide array of people and experience in the class meant much of it was pretty basic. For someone with little experience in building searches, just starting into firearms in a tactical sense, or just for a refresher it was very good training. read more

Wow! I was super scared & tense in the "classroom" and at the beginning on the "range" This Sunday I took the Gun safety class. It was packed , but they accommodated , and got me in. Cheryl is amazing with her customer service and advice. Bill is very real about what we are there doing and the instructor/ leader, on the range, Ben was serious enough to make sure we remembered,this isn't a game.
