The Roti Dip was OUT OF THIS WORLD (6/5). It exceeded my expectations. The Roti was very soft and crispy and the dip had an amazing coconut/herby taste. The waiter saw how much we loved the dip and brought us another one to use for our rice. Big shout out to her! The chicken wings were okay. Not that spicy for me (I have a high spice tolerance) but I expected them to be more savory. They were cooked very well though. I would give it a 3/5 Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed with my main which was the crispy whole dried fish. I am a sucker for whole fish dishes so I was pretty excited and expectant for something spectacular. The fish itself was bland. It was very crispy and cooked well but not really seasoned. I had thought the sauce they serve with it was intended to impart flavor on the fish, but the sauce was just very tangy and not flavorful. I did finish the fish though but it's not something I would get again. Overall a 2.5/5. Their coconut rice was good though I was expecting more of a coconut flavor with it. I would rate that a 4/5. It was cooked very well. I think this is a really nice place though, perhaps I just did not order the right or more popular dishes. I'll be coming back for the ROTI WITH DIP (It was that good) and to try the other items in their menu.

Didn't feel packed at all. I enjoyed the candied bacon, it was one of my favorites when I came the first time and still tastes good as I remember. I ordered the KF chicken and waffles, the chicken was okay but I think it was overly cooked because it was a tad try once I bit into it. My bf got the omurice and he said it was good and filling. The bread pudding did not travel well, and separated like an over cooked cobbler, but the chocolate yuzu cake was a hit for breakfast the next morning. Since I am going to be at OACC later for a band rehearsal, a search for a restaurant nearby results in Saucy Oakland, which is about 3 blocks away. Saucy Oakland has been around for about six years. Funny that I never knew about this restaurant even though I come to Oakland Chinatown quite often. Thanks to Victor G again. He certainly knows where to dine all over the Bay Area. I walk in and a gentleman hands me the menu for perusing. They have happy hours Wednesday through Saturday, 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM; weekend on Friday and Saturday, 8:30 PM to close at 9:30 PM. If one chooses to dine at Saucy, be there at least 15 minutes before they close for the evening. After perusing the menu, I decided to order their saucy wings and a large order of garlic noodles. The wings look delicious, seasoned with a glaze. The garlic noodles are on point. The ambiance is quite nice, especially the floral wall, the hanging plants overhead and the planter box by the entrance. Based on my observation, the seating capacity is a guesstimate of 25 people. Street parking can be problematic during the day. Not sure what street parking is like in the evening. Return visit? Yes, most likely for my birthday dinner next month.

Unfortunately, both Cactus and Market Hall Foods were closed, so I decided to eat at Belly since I was also in the area playing mahjong. This was my second time eating here. I split the Surf Burrito ($20.75) with my friend. It comes with tempura fish, sesame slaw, avocado, pico de gallo, sambal aioli, spicy crema, and multigrain rice. The burrito was a good size, so splitting it with someone is a good idea. The menu says it comes with spicy crema, but I didn't find it spicy at all. My friends ordered the Crispy Dumplings ($12 for 6)--homemade pan-seared pork and shrimp dumplings served with soy chili oil. The dumplings seemed a little small for $12, which works out to about $2 each. Overall, if I'm in the neighborhood playing mahjong, I would come back to Belly to eat. I would probably split the burrito again because $20.75 is a little pricey for a burrito.

Satay chicken salad -- very fresh and flavorful. the grilled chicken was very well marinated, and had lots of flavor. It came with a vinaigrette and a yummy peanut dipping sauce on the side. We thought it could use a little more greens, as the portion felt somewhat small. Curry fried chicken bowl -- this was our favorite thing that we got! The curry was flavorful and there was the perfect amount of it over the chicken and rice. There was a healthy portion of fried chicken and rice, which we appreciated. The chicken itself was super crispy and yummy. All of the components went very well together, and we really loved this one! Pickles -- this was just okay to me. the pickled vegetables consisted of assorted veggies including green beans, peppers, and cabbage. The veggies had a slight sweetness to them, but also were spicy! I looked for fun sporadically a couple of times in the past, never at the scheduled noon releases 6 weeks prior to the dot. However, I somehow lucked out and managed to snag a reservation whilst looking on a random afternoon a month out. Parking is pretty easy as there's plenty of street parking. We got a spot right outside the restaurant and got seated at a 2-top by the window. Tasting menu was $180/person but I think that it changes month to month. I think November is $216/person. We also opted for beverage pairings, $125 for the alcoholic pairing and $65 for non-alcoholic. It seemed like the pours for the wines were a bit stingy, whereas they were more generous with my non-alcoholic options. Sarah and Alan seem very down to earth and their enthusiasm for their craft is apparent. Some of the plates reminded me of dishes I grew up eating, but with a fancier twist on it, although the flavors were spot-on. We were celebrating our anniversary and were given complimentary olive oil cakes in addition to the plethora of sweets to round out the night. They also accommodated my husband's aversion of persimmons. The man won't even eat anything that comes in contact with a persimmon, and we mentioned it last minute as we didn't realize persimmons would be featured on the menu. Staff were very gracious about it though. As a parting gift, we were presented with two mini loaves of ginger molasses cakes to enjoy the next morning. I love it when restaurants do this, as it feels like an extension of the experience to look forward to the following day. The only things that felt a little off was the inconsistency in changing silverware. Sometimes they left used utensils and sometimes they cleared it. If you obviously used it, and left it on the plate, then they would clear. I didn't have an issue, as I was taught to not let used silverware touch the table again, but my husband is hit or miss on etiquette. I figured perhaps it's just a bit difficult to tell if someone has used the settings or not. I left dinner uncomfortably full and my only regret is not asking them to box up the passionfruit cheesecake to go. It was my own fault for getting a drink pairing though, as I think the liquids just took up too much space in my stomach. Would love to return in the future for other celebrations or as Alan said about the last dish of the night, just for fun.
