I've taken classes with Kip, Kelly S., Kelly C., Anjali, Sonia, Judy, Matt, and Lisa and even though their styles are all COMPLETELY different, I loved every class in a different way. Your first class is free so you can try it out without having to pay. Most of the classes are 90 minutes but some are only an hour if you're looking for something shorter. Single classes are $18 each but if you purchase packages online, you save 5%. In addition, they also offer student/senior deals on TOP of that so it truly pays to book online! My 6-class package came out to $68. My only complaint is that on hot days, it gets HOT in there. I've done hot yoga before, but this is a little different: it's just stuffy, humid, and uncomfortable. I'm not sure if they don't have A/C or just choose not to use it but if you're planning on going in the summer, dress lightly and bring a headband and towel. The Ramsey location has an overhead fan. They also have a brand new GORGEOUS location in Chestnut Ridge, although the air situation is comparable (and no overhead fan). It's also next door to a coffee shop and the walls are VERY thin, however, the coffee is great!

I haven't had the pleasure of taking class with every teacher who works at both this location and the Chestnut Ridge location, but the instructors that I have taken (Judy, Alane, Lisa, Rose, Tenley, Trish, Kelly S.) are lovely individuals, and incredibly knowledgeable. The latter is evident in not only the way they guide you, but the way they can move their bodies. It's so inspirational. I'm sure the rest of the teachers are no different. Recently they've decided to add a Pilates class, taught by the fabulous Ms. Anjali and I couldn't be happier! While this is a yoga studio, I think it was such a phenomenal idea to introduce Pilates into the weekly schedule. I'm crossing my fingers that in the near future I'll see this class offered more than once a week!

Best decision I've made in the past year was joining Blackbird as a monthly member. The staff are…read moreall extremely friendly. They have a variety of classes for beginners and advanced practitioners alike, and at every class I go to they offer modifications or add-ons to poses so that you can really adjust to what your body needs that day. The studio is incredibly clean and beautifully maintained. Walking into the studio puts me at ease immediately. There are also zero judgments at Blackbird. At other studios I felt judged if I couldn't go into a headstand or some other inversion, and there is none of that at Blackbird. It is an encouraging environment, which is so perfect for yoga. The studio also offers workshops outside of the regular classes if you want to delve into your practice a little deeper. Another thing I noticed is how at every class, even if it is the same type of class, it is never exactly the same. There is always variety. I've been practicing yoga for two years now and in the few months that I started at Blackbird I saw a noticeable improvement in my practice. There are poses that I thought I would never be able to do or hold for more than a breath that I now do with ease. It's really amazing. Another great thing about Blackbird, especially for NYC commuters like myself, is that they have evening classes! I'm able to go to work, get home and not have to rush like a crazy person to get to class on time. It's rad. For everything that Blackbird offers, the price is amazing too. Before coming to Blackbird I was hopping around at different studios, trying to find the best fit for me. I had been trying for two years to find a 'home studio'. I knew two minutes into my first class at Blackbird that I found that studio. The classes satisfy both the physical and mental aspects of yoga, the community of staff and other practitioners are some of the nicest people you will meet, and membership doesn't break the bank. What more could you ask for?

I've been coming here on and off for about two years. I started with a Groupon (unlimited classes…read morefor a month), and I buy their class passes every now and then if they're on sale. Otherwise, it's too expensive for me to continue regularly. Tommy is the best yoga instructor at this location. He demonstrates the poses in his Blaze class and does a great job helping you through your practice whether you're a beginning or intermediate yogi. He's polite as well - if something is wrong with your form, he'll ask you if it's alright to touch you where you need adjustments. I know some instructors just adjust you without asking and it makes people very uncomfortable. If I were to base my review on just his class, I'd give this location a 5 out of 5. He does a Flow class too, but I've never tried it. Sue Z. is great. She has a very sweet voice that definitely helps to relax you during your practice, but she doesn't demonstrate many of the poses so if you're new, you'll have to look at other yogis around you to know what's going on. Try her Blaze and Flow classes! Kelly's Flow class pretty good too. No one else has really stuck out to me, and I've gone to 3 or 4 other instructors' classes. The main reason why I'm only giving this location 3 stars is because the management is AWFUL. They almost NEVER answer the phone because no one seems to be around unless there's a class, and when there's a class, no one picks up because the yoga instructor is instructing and whoever should be at the front desk is participating in the yoga class. I know there are other gyms and yoga studios that are closed during certain hours, but management should at least change their phone system so that business-related calls can be redirected to the manager's phone or something so there isn't only a 5-minute window that someone could MAYBE answer. I bought two 10-class passes on Memorial Day 2015 - one as a gift for my boyfriend and one for myself. Because I bought them both, they were both under my account. I wanted them to transfer one pass to my boyfriend's account, so when I went to the studio, I asked if they could transfer it but the woman who assisted didn't have the authorization to transfer passes (only the manager could do that). I tried to come in when the manager was in, and she said she'd do it for me but never got around to it. It's February of 2016 and they're STILL not transferred, so my boyfriend has to call in every time he wants to book a spot in a class because he can't do it online through his account since there's no classes available under his name. And of course, if he calls, no one picks up. They either need to change their phone system to redirect calls to a manager's cell phone or have someone there even when there isn't a class going on. Once my passes are up, I'm going to see if Tommy instructs at another yoga studio and try to join that instead if it's a reasonable distance from me.

Among the studios I've seen, Powerflow in Clifton is gorgeous- new, immaculate, with adequate space for changing and showering. The heating radiates from the floor so you don't have uneven or dry gusts of air. I believe they rent mats and they have a nice shop for mats, clothes, towels, and cold drinks. Wow, I am so happy I discovered 40 Park Pilates in Rutherford. Spiro is the best!…read more I attended my Pilates class today via class pass. I had a free trial and this location is very close to my home. Initially, I did have trouble finding the location and thought I'd miss my class, But as soon as I went onto their Instagram page, they have a video entitled "Where to find us" which truly saved me. As soon as I enter the location, I was wowed by the beautiful decor. The hallway was decorated beautifully and the inside of the studio had large crystals, huge vintage mirrors along the wall for you to watch your form and rows of reformers and towers for working out. Spiro is an amazing instructor - I was nervous at first because I've only ever done private sessions at another location and was worried it would be too intense/intimidating. Spiro made me feel comfortable and corrected any one who needed to change their form. He did so with a positive, uplifting, empowering demeanor, letting us know we can always drop the resistance or weights and to do what felt good for our bodies. At the end, since Spiro knew I was new, he checked in with me and asked how I was feeling. The rates for the Pilates classes are also GREAT, from what I've seen elsewhere. I intend on continuing to attend with my class pass and when that expires, I want to happily enroll in a membership. Attend a class, you'll love it!!!!
