I've been to east coast beaches, west coast and Hawaii. The only ones that compete are Hawaii, particularly one near barking sands. But overall this is my favorite to return to.

The waves are perfect you can go our in the water and not get hit and smacked around and rolled over everywhere . The water is gorgeous its clear and you can see your feet when your in the water . You can see lots of fish , there's crabs , seaweed . The salt water isn't strong at all . Seashells there's so many seashells that you can take a bucket and have lots of fun shell shopping . There small to big shells . There is also sea glass which I was surprised . The sea glass there is really cool small and big pieces all different colors . There is changing rooms , bathrooms , and showers . Everything is clean and everyone is polite . I didn't even see any garbage laying around . This is the first beach I've gone to which was actually really clean and people are really nice . The parking fee is only 15$ which is not bad at all then you can park anywhere and just go onto the beach . The sand is perfect its so soft and some shells but its easy to walk on . Its great for anyone family , couples , groups etc . The west Hamptons beach is a must to go to .

We were scheduled from 4:30-6:30pm but ended up staying until just after dusk because it was that good. The back picnic tables made the perfect setup for deep conversations, games, and even s'mores by the grill. A few of us took a walk down to the water and got in plenty of steps--it was totally worth it for the views! I'd love to come back and check out The Salt Shack next time. On a quick walkthrough, I noticed how beautifully it was decorated, and the staff I met were so friendly. Even from the picnic area, we could hear and enjoy the live music, which was such a fun bonus. I was also surprised to see their full volleyball tournament setup--it turns out a friend of mine was even competing that same day! Cedar Beach really has something for everyone, and I can't wait to return.

There is a long path that leads through the Salt Shack (always wanted to eat there but it was way too early to pop in for a meal) and out into the beach. The beach was quiet but the lifeguards were out. We let Bubs run around in the sand before leaving. I did see a bit of garbage on the beach...people please clean up after yourselves. But yes, we love the beaches on LI and we have our favs. This is one of them, but if you're not a resident of the town you will pay a ton to park and for a pass. I think they stop charging after a certain time. But if you want to go for a beach day, it's worth it if you pack the car and go!

Nissequogue River State Park is a very nice place to spend a few hours outdoors. One of the unique…read morefeatures is the flying field where visitors can launch and fly model airplanes, which is always interesting to watch. The park is usually not very crowded, making it a peaceful spot for walking and exploring. Dogs are welcome, but they must remain leashed at all times. There are several maintained paths throughout the property that allow you to explore the grounds and take in the scenery. The park is also known for its abandoned buildings, which were once part of a former psychiatric facility. While the buildings themselves are not open to the public, they add an interesting historical element to the park. You'll often see law enforcement in the area, likely due to visitors exploring around the former structures. Overall, the grounds are well maintained, the trails are easy to walk, and there is plenty of open space to enjoy. It's a great option for a quiet walk, bringing your dog, flying model aircraft, or simply exploring a unique piece of Long Island history.

Purchased in 1885 by kings county asylum of Brooklyn, the property went on to become a self…read morecontained community of sorts offering mental help and care as well as a home to the patients that lived here. Being completely self sufficient, Kings County Asylum boasted its own Vegetable gardens and dairy at its height, it also supplied its own power through a small private electric plant on the premises. Eventually through modernization and improvements in medicine and health care the property eventually started to decommission buildings and no longer took on new patients. Completely closing around 1996 it eventually was turned over to the state becoming a park in 2000. I found Nissquogue river state park to be a very interesting park to visit, the north end of the park offers a nice walking trail as well as beautiful views of the Nissquogue river with over looking bluffs and a small beach front not for swimming. You will find a marina on the property offering boat slips as well as a boat launch if you choose to trailer your boat in for the day and many places to launch your kayak from and travel the river. Most of the property appears to still be in a developmental stage as far as parks go. Walking the property is an explorers delight allowing you to check out the decommissioned hospital buildings and infrastructure some of which dates back to the late 1800's and early 1900's.

There are plenty of lounge chairs and regular chairs to watch the kiddos splash and play - or you can join in the fun as well! An hour or so of playing here and my toddler is wiped out. Be mindful of your own children here - obviously surfaces can get slippery with the water so running is not a great idea. The lifeguards are teenagers usually looking at their phones or chatting with one another. Hours for the splash park at 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and last day of the season is Sept. 2nd. There are also fun lawn games when you first enter like giant connect four and corn hole. If the sand and beach is more your thing, Venetian has you covered. There is a small section roped off in the water designated for swimming. The food section is fast-food esque - think burgers, dogs, that sort of thing. Last time we got a soft pretzel which, at $6.50 was a bit outrageous. And it was underwhelming. We sat at one of the picnic tables - no food allowed in the splash park area. They do have concerts here at night which is fun, and a great (free) family summertime activity. In the off-season, the playground here is awesome. Great for the 3-8/9 year old range. It is also completely closed in via gate, which always makes me feel more comfortable.

Situated a few feet from the "Welcome to New York" sign, Mary Bayles Park welcomes people arriving…read morefrom the Bridgeport Ferry and Long Island with a grand view of Port Jefferson Harbor. This is a view that I have enjoyed when spending time in Port Jefferson. Mary Bayles Park is a very small park tucked in between the Bridgeport Ferry ramp and Danford's. Although the park is small, the waterfront environment is spectacular. This is a view of Port Jefferson Harbor fronting the Long Island Sound with Connecticut in the distant horizon. It is a view that includes the Bridgeport Ferry that is a few feet away. This is a prime spot to watch the ferry entering and leaving the harbor. I have enjoyed this view from sitting on the benches and standing on the dock extension over Port Jefferson Harbor. Spending time here is spending time in a Port Jefferson Harbor portrait. When I took in this panoramic view of Port Jefferson Harbor, I shared it with my Dad and somebody else. That somebody else, is "The Soldier Statue." Standing in a landscaped garden facing Port Jefferson Harbor since the mid 1980s, "The Soldier Statue" has paid tribute to the shipbuilders who answered to the call of country, commerce, whaling, and pleasure. Mary Bayles Park borders Danford's to the east. If it weren't for Danford's, it would be practically contiguous to the far larger Harborfront Park on the other side. Because the park is so small and that Danford's takes up the eastern view, it would be easy to mistake it as Danford's property. If I did not spot the Mary Bayles Park sign, I might of thought that Danford's owned it. Because I currently live in Las Vegas, it is hard for me to return here. If I still lived on Long Island, I could see myself stopping at the Starbucks or Dunkin on Main Street (NY 25A) then savoring my coffee here while watching the Bridgeport Ferry take off towards Connecticut in the horizon or docking in the harbor. In the shadow of the "Welcome to New York" sign, Mary Bayles Park, has been a first-rate spot where I enjoyed being in front of Port Jefferson Harbor while taking in the Bridgeport Ferry. There are a high number of trailers that have not moved in a long time. There is supposed to be a…read moreseven day camping limit before you have to move your unit however this doesn't seem to be the case here at this park. The park trails need maintenance as there are overgrown trees, and laid over trees across paths. Some of the trail access have planks of wood for soft ground that is rotting away. Trails are not marked and website map is difficult to read. Some of the docks on the water are inaccessible from shore.
