I've had Cooper's Beach (well - and The Hamptons) bookmarked for quite some time now. Cooper's Beach in Southampton is often considered one of the top ten beaches in America. It's known for its breathtaking views and white sandy shores with the backdrop of nature and historic + extravagant mansions. I think if I ever have to move back to the East Coast, it would be here.. somewhere in the SouthHamptons - perhaps my future husband lives here!?! :) I visited Cooper's Beach during the 2020 Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The weather was surprisingly mild for The Hamptons. Mid 50 degree weather! I can't wait to come back and experience this gem during Peak season. Because it's off season, you won't be subjected to the $40 parking fee which is nice. Plenty of parking in the off season. I can only imagine what it's like during peak season. Due to COVID, like every other beach in New York State, people must social distance 6 feet apart and wear masks when in crowded areas. It wasn't crowded at all. The beach is absolutely gorgeous and the sand is white + soft. I definitely want to plan a trip to come back during Peak Season...

Cooper's Beach I think is the beach to go to if you're visiting the Hamptons. I know there are many others, but this one is in a central area, has amenities like fresh water outdoor showers, a snack bar (expensive; $4 for an ice cream!), it's well maintained, and clean. Furthermore, they have a lifeguard on duty during the busy time of year and the vibe is relaxing here. I came the Friday of Memorial Day weekend which meant they were not checking for parking yet! They weren't going to start checking for parking until Saturday of that weekend (considered the start of the busy summer season). Parking is otherwise $50 for the day. Other people on Yelp advise where you can park for free. Obviously, $50 is ridiculous unless you're planning to spend the whole day there and you're bringing lots of people and stuff. For one of America's greatest beaches in terms of location, history, and beauty, Cooper's Beach the place to be. If you drive around the area, you can peek at multi-million dollar mansions that are probably owned by a celebrity you like. I guess that's why they have a $50 parking fee to keep the poor from "degrading" the area!

The beaches in the East End of Long Island are glorious! No high rises here. Sand, surf, and the dunes in a back drop of multimillion dollar mansions and beachfront "cottages". In Southampton, there are plenty of beaches you can go to that are quieter. However, those beaches do not have amenities. Cooper's Beach has lifeguards, bathrooms, and a snack bar on steroids. Of course you can buy slushies, ice cream, hamburgers, hot dogs. But how many snack bars serve gourmet sandwiches and lobster rolls? You can also purchase water toys, clothing, and souvenirs. All of these amenities make it a perfect beach for kids. It is also the perfect beach to take the handicapped or elderly as there is a carpet so wheelchairs or walkers can get closer to the water. Beware, the water here can be rough! The waves were so high that my boys had a blast with their boogie boards. It was like a natural water park! The water can also be very cold even in July! A village sticker is required or it is $50 for parking. Yes, $50 for the day! Cooper's Beach however, is one of the few beaches in the Hamptons where you can actually pay for parking if you do not have a sticker! Even with the large parking lot, parking can be tough on nice weekend days. Go early or late. Enjoy!

Probably one of the best beaches in NY that I've been to. Sand is clean and fine. Barely any rocks or shells. Water looks good. Waves were really strong though. Took a tumble a couple of times. I was only able to last 5-10 minutes in the water before having to get out just to reorient myself and take a breather. Im not a good swimmer. Definitely a workout. $50 to park. Non residents can only go on the weekdays. Residents only for weekends. Went there on a fairly cloudy summer monday and had a great time. Social distancing on the beach and it wasnt that crowded. Everyone camped at least 10 ft away from each other. Must wear masks when using the bathroom. The showers werent working though. The parking seems expensive but I really enjoyed my day and felt like it was worth it. I didnt have to stress about people being to close to me as I did with other beaches in NY (jacob riis and jones beach) which were much busier even on a weekday. They also have alot of life guards there and saw them in action. They have 2 people that sit together on each high chair to monitor the waters and like a whole group (about 4 people) that sit underneath them and kinda just hang out until help is needed.

This is one of the beaches in Southampton that has amenities. In order to access this beach, you would either need a parking pass to allow you to park in their parking lot or you could get dropped off and not have to have a parking pass or pay to access the beach. They have lifeguards on duty. They have a stand where you can rent chairs and umbrellas for ~$10-15 a piece. It's actually really nice because they will set up your chairs and umbrellas for you in the spot that you decide you want to be in. When you're done, you just leave them there and don't have to schlep them back, so it is really convenient. The sand is really clean and today there were not too many people there. In terms of amenities, there are bathrooms and a small take out only food stand that has pretty basic food (think hamburgers) and beer and wine. This beach is not a protected inlet, so the waves get to be pretty large. There were several people surfing on this beach. As for COVID precautions, they have posted signs requiring masks and social distancing, but no one was enforcing it. They set up sticks around the beach designating where people were allowed to set up their chairs so as to not allow people to get too close to each other. Overall, this was a really nice beach and relatively quite, but it could use some improvements in terms of the amenities offered.

    Seagulls, sand and water!

Lovely beach which was not even a 10 minute drive from where we were staying in South Hampton. Gorgeous sand, awesome water and the friendliest seagulls! All my favorite things to enjoy on a beach! :) It had a lifeguard on duty and wasn't too crowded at all when we arrived at around 10 in the morning on a Sunday. The beach was clean and the beach shack cafe was very convenient. Spent some fun times here! Also while dogs aren't allowed during the day, you can bring your pets after 6pm when it's less crowded. Will definitely be back again soon!

My favorite beach in the Hamptons. Small, quiet and very relaxing beach. It doesn't get crowded at all, as with most Hampton beaches. Only con is the parking; it's so expensive. Non residents pay alot but for a day at the beach and to avoid Jones Beach, I'll pay it.

This is a beautiful beach. It's a slice of heaven as they say. Wanted to visit Cooper's Beach off season. Perfect place to just get away from it all from NYC. Long Island definitely has some fantastic beaches and they are clean. Lots of locals here stop by to get their exercise and walk their dogs. Everyone is friendly. If you ever get a chance drive around Meadow Lane and check out the luscious, beautiful homes, the architectural designs are just amazing. Lifestyles of the rich and famous. Great getaway for the weekend/week. So much to see and do in Southampton and the surrounding towns. Will be back again.

Super fun, and family friendly. Also a nice place for relaxing. One of the best beaches on Long Island.

I will have to admit that I was a bit disappointed. Forbes listed this beach ad #5 in the country. The sign placard claims it is #1. But - it kinda looked like every other beach on the south shore of LI. The sign says parking is $40 per day. But since I was there in March, there was nobody collecting money. We were able to drive up to the drop off point and actually see the beach and water. But there is only parking for 3 or 4 cars there. Maybe if I came in summer I would find out what all the fuss is about. But there was nothing special here in March.

Pristine, considered to be one of the finest beaches in the Hamptons. Always maintained and a pass is required to park your car.

Ask the Community - Cooper's Beach

Is there a beach admission fee? Also, I see there's $40 parking but can you park in the vicinities? Is there street parking nearby?

There is no beach admission fee, per se, but if you are not a resident of Southampton, you have to pay $40 for parking. I haven't seen any street parking nearby; maybe in the center of the town. If you go in September, parking is free, the weather… Read more
