Gave this a try with family not too long ago. Convenient parking, easy entry and a clean appearance make for a nice introduction. A full bar, solidly poured drinks and accommodating servers allow you to settle in. A menu with enough choices to satisfy everyone. Our group mostly ordered the smoked chicken wing special. Large, well prepared wings were appreciated by everyone in our party. I added an order of twice baked potato skins. Not only were they fantastic, they were huge. My side became a shareable for the table. We finished up with some dessert drinks. They were great and put the exclamation point on our visit. I have seen and heard many mixed reviews about Fire Away over the years. Having been here many times over the last 2 years, I am writing an overall post of my experiences: - Steaks, wings and seafood are always delicious. - Seasonal vegetables are a hit or miss. I got the crispy brussel sprouts and bacon and there was no crisp whatsoever and they looked steamed and were flavorless, got the stir fry vegetables and they were overcooked and not as much flavor and before trying the the asparagus and onion I had asked a customer how it was and they said it was overcooked and had woody ends. The coleslaw most times has little to no flavor. - Appetizers are very good - had the burnt ends multiple times, spiral spuds and the cheese curds which do not disappoint. - Love that they have a changing tap beer selection and can always find something good to try. The Brickfield Milk Stout was delicious! - Staff is great most of the time however there is one waitress in particular who has an attitude most often then not and comes off very rude. Her customer service could use some work. You'll know her if you get her. - When it is busy, things get chaotic and they could use some organization. Customers don't have much of an area to stand and wait, no one is at the hostess stand and people look but don't acknowledge you. A quick "we are super busy, we will be with you shortly" would go a long ways. I saw multiple parties leave because they were not acknowledged at all. Saw someone at Harvest Fest and I heard them talking about not being acknowledged at all as well and they left due to that alone. Customer service is what people remember more than the food. - I will definitely be returning but I hope that certain things change for the better for the restaurants sake. - The new waitress was amazing! I don't know her name (She had braids in her hair and was younger) but she was the sweetest thing and did a great job! She turned the experience positive. - I work with and for veterans daily and I love what I do. I appreciate their service and with this being a veteran owned company I am happy to support and hope my feedback helps. read more

Fantastic place and even better on Thursday nights when they have smoked prime rib. Great owners, great staff - and they have created a great place with really good food in the Chetek area. Supper club-type goodness in a bit more casual space than a typical supper club. If you are in the Chetek area - put this place on your list - its that good. read more

We had our wedding here in May 2025 and we had the best day we could have ever asked for. They were great answering all of our questions during the planning phase and when the day came, we didn't have to think/worry about anything! Randy, Shana, and all of the staff crushed it! From Shana helping us plan all of the details between food, drinks, decor, etc, not having to stress about setup or take down. The day/night was incredibly special from our ceremony to our reception. Just had the hot honey pepperoni flatbread and drinks. After the first bite of the flatbread you'll have no tastebuds left so everything would be good. The old fashioned was amazing, full bodied great taste (prior to the hot honey), everyone was courteous. Nice lil place. read more

We've been here a few times now and everything we've ordered has been very good. Tonight they knocked it out of the park with smoked prime rib! Just the right amount of smoke (subtle) and exactly as I ordered -- rare. Server was very nice. She warned us that there would be a wait as they were short-staffed, but we said fine no problem. We just had an extra cocktail while we waited LOL. She checked back after we got our food to see if everything was OK and if we needed anything else. The place is very unassuming -- just a regular looking north woods bar -- but the food is way above the normal deep-fried everything you get elsewhere. We'll be back. read more

Thankful I had read reviews and looked at their website (menu) before we stopped. Driving by, would never have stopped due to the outside looking a bit run-down. But, once inside, we were welcomed and treated so kindly. The atmosphere was nice. The food was awesome and the service so friendly. Even the kids enjoyed their kid menus and food. We had the fried pickles- so good. Booyah stew-yum! French dip sandwich, awesome. Kids had the chicken and fries. So good, too! If the outside were spruced up a bit, maybe some umbrella tables to add to the roadside appeal, I'd add a star. We had a great time. Thank you! read more

Tonight was a waste of over hour and a half of my evening. The place was very busy, we had to wait about thirty minutes for a table. Completely understandable. We order and continue to wait for over an hour for our food to come out of the kitchen, while we watched people at the bar that sat down thirty minutes ago already getting their food. I also saw a couple that sat in the dining room leaving after enjoying their dinner and we still haven't received our food..... that's not ok what the ..... We left, unwilling to wait another minute. Waited 2 hours after ordering our food. We had burgers, fish, and salad. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because of the food. The service was terrible. Never got an apology or a reason why it took 2 hours to get our food out to us. The food was average. Ate here for New Years Eve. Flavor of the meals was great, however it came out cold. We received our salads after we had all finished our meals and the bread was evidently our dessert as it came after we finished our salads. The servers were not well trained and rarely checked with us. The bartenders were a bit overwhelmed due to a large group in the back. Since we had a reservation we expected reasonable service. Came here as a new resident to town if Chetek. A hidden hem that all the locals go to. Clean, inviting, awesome food plus top notch service. We like to eat at the bar as the bartender( woman with tattoos on one arm) is the best! Ordered the nightly special of 5 huge, and I mean huge, fresh broasted wings with choice of potatoes for 11.00. Light, hot crispy breading with juicy chicken inside. Great selection of beers on tap, and cocktail specials. Food came out hot and fresh with these best bourbon sauce on the side( many others to choose from) I like the garlic Parmesan sauce the best. Poor service, terribly rude staff. Went to order, got 8 orders to go. Took over 75 minutes to get our food without being told of an extended wait time. When asking when our food may be done, was told "we forgot, we'll drop it in now, we've been busy." When asking for a second time 20 minutes later, our waitress said someone else would be bringing it out because she had to leave. The third person we asked, was so incredibly rude, we won't be back. We said we've been waiting over an hour and a half for dinner, and her response was "...and?" She told us our waitress told us it's be over an hour, which never happened. After another table of 5 (3 kids) came over tell us they came in before us and are still waiting for their dinner. Wow. Can't believe the service. Will not be back. Food may be good. Who knows. Our family has vacationed in Chetek, WI since I was a baby. We used to go to Wing night at Two Acres, but this past year we found out about R Bar just outside of town. It's an isolated and relaxing little getaway along one of the many country roads outside of the small towns. They have a full bar with a few slot machines, darts, etc. along with two family style rooms which was great for our group of 10. We all ordered their special , Wings with fries & coleslaw. These wings were HUGE. They have a variety of sauces to choose from & I appreciated that they are on the side. You can enjoy the wings as they are without them being drenched in sauce or dip as you see fit. Their coleslaw was super yummy and I loved their crispy cut fries. Pop comes in a can, which doesn't bother me, but you'll have to ask for a glass of ice if you want it. I'm sure this will be our new wing stop every year. Check them out!! read more

We've never had an "Authentic Wisconsin Fish fry", but now that we have we will come back! Diane was our waitress, and she was very kind and when asked she gave great recommendations. Ordered the ribs that had very good flavor, but they must have overdone the #2 of the "3-2-1" method of smoking ribs. Pulled the bone and got back only bone; the meat stayed, but it was still very moist & tasty! Atmosphere and menu above average, a fun place to hang, and we are going back tomorrow night for dinner. read more

This is the best of the beaten path bar I have found in quite awhile. The staff is very friendly and on point. The food was amazing, and the prices rely nice! I had the brisket grilled cheese and it was the best sandwich I have ever had. The western burger was also excellent! I would highly recommend stopping here and I will deffinately be back! read more
