We tried the original branch of this restaurant in Chinatown a few years ago for my birthday dinner. Wasn't impressed. Back then some people in our party had pre-ordered a lamb dish which, on the menu stated it needed to be ordered at least 24 hours in advance. Despite have pre-ordered it, it still took ages to come to the table and wasn't even thoroughly cooked when it did arrive. Also, I recall being put off at the time because I had read the menu on their website and seen a Vegetarian Lasagna that I wanted to try. Quite taken aback to arrive at the restaurant and discover that they had removed the Vegetarian Lasagna from their menu but just hadn't updated the menu on their website.
Ok, well that was awhile back and this is an entirely new location so I decided to take a chance on this new location.
To begin with, the setup is kinda weird. I am sure lots of people would be walking around inside Lonsdale Quay, and then enter the restaurant from inside Lonsdale Quay. Especially as anyone with mobility issues would have wanted to take the elevator, and the elevator is located inside Lonsdale Quay. When you walk through the door though, they say..." We can help you at the front," and then they point to the other side of the restaurant, indicating that the front is actually at that other side of the restaurant. This makes no sense to me at all. Why not set up the "front" at the door that connects to the inside of Lonsdale Quay? That's where we walked, and that's where other people after us, also walked in.
We ordered the following:
Elderflower flavoured latte
Lavender flavoured latte
Vegana Schiacciata sandwich
Caprese Avocado Toast
Fritto Misto
Service was very slow, just like the other location. We waited and waited and waited for our food. When it finally came...food was delicious and they do a good job of presentation; however, my daughter found a piece of hair in her Caprese Avocado Toast. That was quite a turn off. They apologized and asked if she'd like a replacement of the same dish or whether she'd like to order something entirely different. She decided to get a replacement of the same dish. The Caprese Avocado Toast comes with two poached eggs and she had previously ordered the two poached eggs to be served on the side. This is because she doesn't actually like eggs so she wanted to just give the eggs to me. I had already eaten the two poached eggs on the side. We thought when she ordered the replace Avocado Toast that they would just replace the Avocado Toast part, but they replaced the entire order which means she got another two poached eggs on the side.
I was quite full from having already eaten two poached eggs plus Vegana sandwich and Fritto Misto. This time I ate just one of the poached eggs and my mother ate the other poached egg. The restaurant deducted the Caprese Avocado Toast from our bill and gave us a voucher to use for next time we come in. It gives us $20 off if we spend $50. We have until the end of the year to use the voucher.
Disregarding the off putting experience of finding hair in her food, my daughter did enjoy the food. She really liked the Schiacciata bread, as did I. Maybe I'm a softie. Someone else might absolutely refuse to come back again having had negative experience at two locations of this restaurant. I am a strong believer in forgiveness though. So, while I can't guarantee coming back to this restaurant, I will at least consider it. read more
