We ordered the schnitzel and the steak and mushroom pie and were excited to do so until we starting eating. The pie had 2 pieces of beef and the rest were mushrooms. Very disappointed although the taste was great and the beef very tender, just needed more of it to justify name. The schnitzel was burned and it was over cooked and dry. The service was fine and Kayla was attentive. The look of the pub was "pub" looking but felt worn out and did not look clean. I took my husband for his birthday dinner last Thursday (3-27) We were excited that the restaurant had re-opened and we ordered our favorites, calamari and Guinness steak and mushroom pie. The pie came with an extra side dish. My husband had some extra potatoes and I had a small ceasar salad. I have already given a glowing review, but after I did, I started feeling sick. I had food poisoning and I threw up everything. It had to be the salad as it was the only thing different and my husband was fine. So stopped in, as we were staying at the Holiday Inn for the night. It was half price apps and $4 drink specials. We ordered the chicken bites, good flavour; Yorkie bites, probably best one we chose; calamari, sauce was good; wings, pretty good. Then our final choice was the Irish Nachos, as it advertised supposed to have Irish braised beef on them. We had one large chuck of beef, oh I am serious it was only one. When I asked they said it's like a bolognese sauce and there was beef in it (pretty sure I may have saw 2 pieces if lucky) . I will say some of the food seemed like it was half off the quality. Fionne MacCools was pretty disappointing tonight. We wish we had a heads up of you no longer accepting gift cards. Your fish portions are also a lot smaller than before. I had supper this evening at Fionn MacCool's. It was fairly busy when I got there. I ordered Mini Forkies. I'd had them at other Fionn MacCool's in the past and have enjoyed them. They were really good this evening. I also ordered some wings tossed in medium sauce with creamy dill dip. The wings were just okay ... I probably wouldn't order them again. Melanie was my server. Tonight my boyfriend and I went out on a date; we were supposed to go somewhere else, but with the wait time being over an hour at that restaurant, we decided to come here. Since this place opened, I've been hearing good things about it and tonight we decided to try it. Coming here on a Friday night, we knew it was going to be busy, so there was a 15 to 20 minute wait, which was fine, a busy restaurant is a good one. We were finally seated at a table near the bar, and right away had our server come up and ask us what we would like to drink. I had water and my boyfriend had the Goose Island IPA and after browsing the menu we decided on a appetizer of Beer Bread, and I had ordered the Salmon Leek Pie, and he ordered Slow Roast Lamb Shank. Despite the business of the restaurant, our appetizer promptly came out and it was really good; the beer bread was tasty, and the cheese sauce was flavourful and not too salty; our meals came out about 10 minutes after. The Salmon Leek Pie was good! It had a really nice cream sauce with the buttermilk mashed potatoes tasted good, and the chunks of salmon were a nice wonderful surprise in every bite, and the market garden salad had a nice dressing. The lamb shank fell right off the bone, and had gravy and some sautéed vegetables along with it. Overall it was a nice experience. The ambience was loud, it was really busy, and when we were finishing our drinks, the manager had come by and ask us how our evening was tonight. She was very kind and it was nice that she likes to take care of her restaurant and customers. Our server was nice as well, I feel as when we needed a refill on our drinks, she was right there. Prices were average for a pub, looking around $20-$40 per person if you average it out. Nice experience, hopefully we'll go back on a less busier night, maybe for lunch! read more

Every time I return to this establishment I have an amazing time. The service and food is very consistent, they have affordable weekday deal specials on drinks and food. The environment is very cozy and makes for an excellent date night or evening out with friends. My personal favourite is the Shepard's pie with the side of salad. Over priced and a disgrace to Irish cuisine. I ordered the shepherds pie which was more of a thin beef soup with unseasoned mashed potatoes smashed in the middle. I could see this greasy film reflecting light on top of the liquid which made it very unappetizing. There was zero consistency to the dish with the slimy soup on the bottom that sort of made the potatoes congeal as it cooled. It was an insult to their so called "Irish Favs" and Irish food as a whole. I'll be looking for another Irish Pub-style from now on because this place is not worth my time or money. I did however head back in the evening and the guy behind the bar was not the most personable guy, he actually was very judgmental and off putting and looked like he could care less and didn't want to be there. I was pleasantly surprised at the extensive variety provided by the lunch and dinner menu at Fionn MacCool's. It is not often I have a genuinely difficult time deciding which menu item to chose, but this experience was a toss up between the many intriguing entrées including wraps, sandwiches, domestic and cultural dishes, and the power bowl I eventually settled on. The beer menu was extensive, although many of the choices I would usually favour were only served in a can or bottle, rather than a more desirable draught option. Busy Saturday night at South London location next to the fireball sub shoppe , Sean Connery at the bar in a Kilt , waitress' also in shorter Kilts , a bit of a wait for a table , but has stools for a rest before we enjoy dinner here . We were moved to tables faster than the door hostess said ! That's good . Warm chips and dip are ordered for a starter , should be good with my ice cold beer . The 2 dips are good ! I ordered the souther fish fry : strips of Cod in a buttermilk batter BUT beware these strips are drizzled with a hot sirachi sauce that I should have left off . Had an enjoyable meal here last night. It is a chain restaurant featuring British pub classics. This location has a large patio --though the scenery leaves something to be desired (parking lot or busy main thoroughfare). Dining room has pub atmosphere, mix of tables and booths. TVs near the bar were showing Opening Ceremony of Olympics. I imagine it is generally sports. There is a small stage with another large screen behind. Stage features live music after 8 on Fri and Sat. We were seated promptly by a pleasant hostess. Our waitress came by to fell us the drink features immediately-- seems like they have frequent beer specials. She returned quickly to take our orders. I was impressed that she took the time to point out prior customer issues. For example, I ordered a stone fruit lemonade, she pointed out it was tart, asked if that was ok, then offered to also bring water. Food overall was decent. We tried the Steak and mushroom boxty, the Guinness pie, and fettuccine Alfredo. The boxty had a tasty filling with a rich gravy, though it seemed just a little cold. I also could have gone for more mushrooms. The side salad was nicely dressed greens with crunchy pepitas on top...different from most chains. Fettuccine was classic with a lemony taste. Filling for Guinness pie same as boxty, but served with mashed potatoes instead. Tip: request a salad. There's a lot of carbs on that plate! Overall prices were about $15 per entree. Another chain in London means great excitement for the city who loves a franchise. Fionn's is part of the Cara chain which includes neighbour Kelsey's. I've been to a few Fionn's in other cities and I've always found them ok. I met a colleague for lunch. This Fionn's was built from the ground up so it is clean and new. You can still smell the wood. It seems a little smaller than some of the others I've been to. The waitress was quite perky. She was definitely trained to upsell but did it properly. She went through the drink specials. I settled for coffee which she made sure wasn't empty was entire time I was there. I ordered a mushroom salad with salmon, It was decent. The salmon was seasoned properly although a bit overcooked. The wait time was not long. I did see two rather decent looking burgers came out for an adjacent table which would go really nice with a pint which range from standard domestics, a few craft brews (although most are owned by the big boys) and typical imports. Not the most exhilarating review but neither was Fionn's. I'll likely go back when I'm less corporate and more social. Maybe it will be a little more exciting. read more

My visit here did not start out very well, as the hostess and a waiter were chatting away with a single customer at a booth for several minutes before she recognized that I was at the front door. I started my meal out by ordering the French onion soup, which turned out to be extremely good. For the main portion of the meal, I ordered the steak and fries, but substituted the fries for a salad. My steak was tasty but very chewy. If I come back again, I may opt for one of the meat pies that they offer. They look very good at the next table and the comments from the persons that ordered the meat pies we're very positive. read more

We enjoyed four different entrees for our group...the Cobb salad was fresh and delicious, the chicken curry perfectly spiced, Fisherman's chowder perfect for a cold damp evening, and the Shepherd's pie beautifully browned, authenic and delicious. Veggie burgers are surprisingly good. Wish I'd stuck with that instead of trying the fish and chips. Chips were fine. Fish was obviously frozen and just thrown in a deep fat fryer. Just awful and barely edible. I mean what kind of bar can't do fish and chips!?! Otherwise, great ambiance and great service...until the too-loud band went on. Too loud to hear my date, we got the check right away. If you're not Molly Bloom or Joe Kool's keep the music reasonable. No one was dancing. It was just awful. Terrible end to the night. The 2 stars are given for the ambiance and food of the restaurant but the server that I had tonight was incredibly terrible. This server took our order for apps but didnt give us a chance to order our meal, he would just immediately walk away. So then we had to wait another 30 minutes after finishing our app before getting our meal. He never once asked us how our food was and made us wait forever to get our bills or any service. The worst part is he wasn't even busy.. He just stood behind the bar all night taking shots. I wonder if that is something fionn maccool's allows because obviously it led to poor service. And I would love to take their survey on the website but you need your order number which we did not wait for after already waiting way too long. I went with three other people on a busy Saturday. The drinks were really good and our server brought out our appetizer right away. When our meals came out, I was served something completely different then I ordered. The server apologized and tried to get it out right away however he told me my food had been sitting in the window and was cold so they were remaking it. By the time I got my food, everyone else was finished. They took my meal off the bill so that was nice but it was still frustrating to have the order so screwed up. I had ordered a Roti, which was delicious, and they tried serving me the steak and Guinness pie. My fiancé had the steak and Guinness pie and wasn't a fan. Everyone else I dined with enjoy their meal. I would probably go back for lunch at a less busy time. read more

I was here on a very busy Saturday evening. There was a wait for our table, but we were told we could go to the bar to wait so we did. There were 3 of us and only 2 seats left at the bar. The place was packed. This wasn't much of an issue though as it was still nice to hang out and have a drink while waiting to be seated. The host seemed very organized and polite despite the chaos of all of the people. The building is brand new and quite nice inside. It has lots of wood and a pubby feel. It does seem small like the other reviewer said, but they sure can pack a lot of people inside Two of us in our party tried a couple different kinds of filled boxties, an Irish potato pancake, and the other had the fish and chips. The food came out surprisingly quick considering how many people where there. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but the food was delicious. I will definitely go back here. It's something different and close-by for me and there were quite a few other menu items I'd like to try. The daily drink specials are pretty decent too. read more

My boyfriend and I came to Fionn MacCool's for the first time on Monday night at the London ON Wellington location and we will never be returning. I tried to fill out the guest survey form but I did not take home my receipt and therefore do not have the number on the bottom of the receipt it asks for in order to continue. We came on Monday night, our servers name was MEGAN, a girl with dark hair who was bartending/serving. As soon as we walked in at seemed as though she did not like us and we were sat at a table near the door which was super cold. My boyfriend ordered a beer and I ordered a pepsi, he is 25 and got ID'd, which is not the problem as I am aware it is a servers job to ensure he/she is not serving someone underage, but rather the WAY she said it was the problem, with serious attitude and a very unfriendly, uninterested tone, with a face that seemed annoyed and disgusted. It seemed as though Megan basically had it out for us from the beginning, causing us to look up other restaurants near by, but decided to give it a chance since we had never been before - which was a mistake. After we had gotten our drinks I, being 21 years old myself, took a sip of my boyfriends beer. Megan, RAN over to me from the OTHER SIDE of the bar and said, so rudely may I add, "show me your ID." First of all, I'm a server and I have NEVER EVER seen anyone do this before in my LIFE. I would NEVER. Secondly, the WAY she said it was so condescending and rude I cannot even begin to describe how awkward and embarrassing it was, and how it made me feel. Third, the fact that she was WATCHING us made us feel super uncomfortable - by watching us I mean that she must have been staring at me in order to have seen me, in a restaurant full of people, take one single sip of a beer. So, I, reluctantly and being super weirded out, presented my ID, she looked over it and gave it back and walked away - did not explain herself, did not say thank you, did not say anything just glared at me and walked away. My boyfriend and I stared at each other in complete shock. After that our service was absolutely horrible, yet there was a couple who sat at the table beside us and we're served quickly and normally, yet she took so long to take our order, asked us how our food was as if she could not care less and made us wait forever for the bill. We of course left no tip, and have proceeded to tell people our experience and see if that was a normal thing - to be ID'd for taking a SIP - and everyone has told me how ridiculous that is. Many people have told me this location is among the worst for servers being disrespectful and uncaring. Please take note this server RAN TO ME FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BAR TO ID ME FOR TAKING ONE SINGLE SIP!!!!!!! I AM 21!!!!! I will never EVER forget this encounter and how it made me feel, I have thought about it every day since, considering this is Thursday evening and I was there on Monday night. This establishment is a joke if you are letting people like that work there. It is sad and if that is what you are training your employees to do that's even worse. Went on a Sunday and it's clear this was a mistake. A promising menu was rendered yuck by what I can only imagine is the B-Team in the kitchen. The host and wait staff were super nice and genuine as my date and I were seated and had our orders taken. We chose the french onion soup to share, I ordered the salmon-leek pie and she, the steak and mushroom pie. A few minutes later, I was told there were out of the salmon-leek. No big deal, I switched to the lamb pie. In retrospect, I should have picked something else. I've had their french onion soup before in another city so knew it was good. But this particular bowl must have had a crazy amount of dry herbs (thyme and oregano?) added prior to baking, so much so that they kept getting caught in my throat. I guess the herbs weren't in there long enough to soften in the broth. The crust on the pie was pretty good but the dish was 50% crust. The filling tasted of flour and overwhelmingly of rosemary, with 3 small pieces of lamb and a couple of carrots. It was a really unappetizing grey colour to boot. It was supposed to be served on a bet of wilted spinach and mushrooms. In the picture, it really qualified as a bed and looked delicious. What I was served was about 12 leaves of raw baby spinach and some mushrooms, none of which were seasoned at all. Zero salt. Maybe the first time ever in a restaurant I had to add table salt. My date's steak and mushroom filling was better but still too much crust. The beer was delicious. Decent selection. read more

Not very good food. They were understaffed the day we went, but our server was pleasant. But the food wasn't.... beef and mushroom pie with very little beef, although there was some beef fat. Gluey-in-the-middle shrimp/bacon donuts. Not enticing. AND we overheard another table near us getting a discount on their bill due to the long wait, but we'd waited longer than their table, but no discount. went there with a couple of friends to celebrate friendship and times together. The patio was busy and they were short staffed but, overall, we received our drinks and food in an orderly fashion and everyone was happy with what they had ordered. The only problem came when it was time to pay. The server had put a different and higher amount in the visa machine than she should have. Our bill came to about $70, she punched in around $83 and I tipped 15% on top of that. I made the mistake of not looking at the bill (she brought the bill and the visa machine at the same time and had the visa machine on top of the receipt holder). After noticing the mistake I called the waitress back over and she gave what seemed like a flimsy excuse. She gave me the difference back in cash and apologized. My friends and I left feeling like she had either been poorly trained or like we had just avoided being scammed. If I had not noticed the discrepancy the waitress would have made an extra $13 on our tab alone. I contacted the restaurant and heard back from the general manager but this issue has not yet been resolved. So, while the food and drink were decent, we left with a bad taste in our mouth and will probably not return. Moral of the story? Always check your bill before you pay your tab. read more
