This place has very friendly and helpful staff. They will help you pick out anything on the menu. The burgers are pretty good, which says something because I'm definitely not a burger person. I really enjoyed the thinly sliced potato chips that came with my burger however, I was not a fan that when they gave me the options for substitutes to fries they left out the part where my potato chips were $3 more. Oh well. Location isn't easy to get to but it would be great for anyone who is staying at the Holiday inn or even the Delta. This pub didn't seem too busy which was nice but it also wasn't dead. Beer was good, but when isn't it. I wouldn't say Fionn MacCool's is anything special but it's nice if you are looking for comfort. For a pub, I thought were was quite a bit of hearty food choices on the menu. I was attending an evening conference at the Holiday Inn and decided to pop in here for a quick bite with my two friends. We weren't overly hungry so ordered something lighter. My friend asked for genuine draft and was told they don't have that so that was a bit surprising for a pub. Their "happy hour" price for 1 lb. of chicken wings were $8 so I ordered medium hot. The wings were average size and it came with carrot sticks and blue cheese dip. One friend had the french onion soup which looked like how it should and she really enjoyed it. My other friend had the smaller-sized chicken pie with salad. That size was enough to fill her up and she also really enjoy the food. There are two locations in Edmonton and I definitely want to go back and try some other things. Average pub with better than average menu. Staff seems a little light in numbers, and service wasn't terribly attentive, but we were fed just in time to eat and get back to our conference. As I sit here having lunch at Fionn's I write this review because I am so pissed off. Who the hell is in charge here? Hopefully, not the loud obnoxious woman standing at the bar (her soap box, apparently) talking about and berating both restaurant and hotel staff loud enough for the entire bar to hear. She is walking around acting like she owns the place. It is like letting the monkeys run the zoo. I stopped in here hoping for a quiet place to get a little work done in between meetings and I find this aforementioned obnoxious employee and then a 5 year old (literally, a five year old) screaming at the top of his lungs while his father ignores him while drinking a beer. Minors? In a pub? Isn't there laws about this? The food? I ordered the Blarney Chips and it is enough to feed an army however quantity is not quality. The 'toppings' were barely present and after the top layer, forget about it. I ask my server for a glass of water and then watched her talk to 2 of her friends who were in for lunch for a healthy 10 minutes (and I am being kind). This was the last straw prior to writing this review. Whoever is managing this place should be embarrassed of this type of behaviour/ 'service'. I have been sitting here now for 20 minutes, no one has come by to clear my uneaten lunch or to offer me another beverage. It is currently 2:23pm, Thursday, March 1st, 2017. My waitress just looked me in the eye, turned around and walked away. Clearly she doesn't want to be here. She didn't ask how lunch was when she came to clear the table, probably didn't need to based on the fact nothing was eaten, not did she offer to pack it up. I wonder why? read more

Love this place. I'm a regular of sorts and I love the food quality and portion sizes. The staff is super friendly and love to talk to each client as the come in. The drinks are top notch. It's still a new Pub, being open since May 2012, which explains why it isn't busier. Love the lamb shank, Veg burger, and the flat iron beat salad. read more

Popped in on a Saturday night because we couldn't find anywhere else to go for dinner. Had potato nachos and chicken curry, based on the recommendation of the server. Even the girl running the food was excited about my curry. For a pub, I was skeptical, but it really was decent curry and jasmine rice! I like it here. Service is pretty good. Food is decent. Prices are ok. But I prefer to sit at the bar and unfortunately at this location it means listening to the wait staff gossip and complain- not just occasionally. Every time I come here and sit at the bar I end up having to leave because I feel annoyed and stressed out by their bitching and complaining. I'm not suggesting they shouldn't feel free to vent- just that they should do it in the back or something. Completely average food, awful service. There is no reason to come here unless you are staying at the hotel and you are tired and don't want to leave. Sat for 20 mins before I was acknowledged. Both the bar tender and a server in another section made eye contact with me and went in doing nothing, not even a hello. When my server finally wandered by she dropped a menu on the table and walked away for another 19 mins. When my food finally arrived, it was decent. Not bad but nothing I would ever come back for or tell people about. When I finished, my empty plate sat for another 10 mins and once picked up, I sat for another 20 before my bill came by. Yikes. I'm gonna day I hope the staff was just having an off day because there is no way a place could operate like this and be around for any length of time. read more

Went there for dinner and it took forever to get our food and when it did come out it was cold. The calamari we had was so salty it was inedible. Got the nachos and the cheese was flakey and cold on top. Waitress was not very helpful and was quite defensive when we asked for food to be reheated, or when we told her about the calamari. HORRIBLE. Avoid it if you can. Late in the evening I ordered a burger to go - it took well over 30 minutes. I was told several times "just a few more minutes"... Then when I tried to take the drink I ordered back to my room (which I had done before) I was stopped and told that I couldn't take it out. To make matters worse - when I got it back to my room, it was COLD. What a total waste of money. I'll never go back. This restaurant definitely deserves the low score that it has! read more

Went to the location at 4485 Gateway Blvd. for the pie promotion offered by AMA. Less than an hour after opening the manager came out of the kitchen to say there were no more pies and went back to the kitchen to presumably hide from angry customers. Don't offer a promotion if you cannot keep up with the demand. There was no indication from the manager that they would have more pies later in the day. I drove in from Sherwood Park to try a new restaurant and it was a waste of my time. Went here at 10pm on a Saturday night as we were staying at hotel. Group of 7 of us. Service was slow. Waitress messed up my friends drink. She asked for a gin and tonic and she brought her a beer ??! Then it took over an hour to get nachos. Place WAS NOT busy. There were 4 tables but we were tucked away so easily ignored. Had to go up to the bar and remind them of our drinks after waiting 20 minutes with bartender standing back there doing nothing. Well it's better then the Lion's Head... Great uniforms and generally keen and friendly wait staff that will bring you the thing you order in a reasonable amount of time with a minimum of snark. Maybe almost too attentive in some cases as all three time's I've been the wait staff has missed the cues to stay away until a conversation is finished. Hardly a complaint. Good selection of beer. Try the Erdinger! Food tastes like it was designed for humans to eat and is generally high end pub food. Various meat/fish pies are excellent, sandwiches are great, mini yorkshires are decent, but the chowder is a straight up tragedy. In all, great for lunch or drinks in a casual atmosphere. read more

Went there last night, had atrocious service! What's with this sort of thing recently? Our server, Lisa, didn't decide to grace our table until we went inside and asked for someone to take our orders. Overall, it took about 15 minutes to get our orders done from when we sat down, got rowdy about nobody showing up, asked for a server, and when she finally arrived. We both worked as servers before, so we are pretty understanding and forgiving for people in the industry. She plopped down menus and asked what we wanted. Uhm... maybe if you give us a minute to look we'll know? We sort through the menu in quick order and decide on food and some drinks. Notice nobody else around us is getting service either. Another ordeal of waiting, having to go ask for the server, her coming over like she's the freaking pope gracing us with her presence. It was late already, and having to have waited so long for service we weren't willing to wait around for food to show up anymore so we just asked for beer. That didn't sit well with the server, who scoffed and left, arriving with our beers after, what I assume due to how long it took, to be a walk straight to the brewery in Calgary to retrieve them. A good inch and a half of head to our pints, but whatever, beer is beer. Took forever to pay, too, and the server just snatched the machine and walked back without a word. Have a good night? :\ Overall, it was nasty but it was late and we were going to watch a movie, so we just stuck with it and kept pestering people for service. If we weren't, we would've left far before the point where we asked for a server and definitely would've just left without paying for how long it took for us to get our bill and actually pay. Terrible service!!! Our server was extremely rude and uninviting. Every time we would say something, she would instantly turn her back towards us and walk off. We felt like we had done something wrong. We felt very uncomfortable and just had two beers then left. Even when we got our bill she didnt even attempt to talk to us... She just plopped the machine on our table then instantly walked off. No thank yous, nothing. This is somewhat of a random place. It has a distinct franchise-feel, though I don't know of more locations in the city. This one is attached to the Holiday Inn, which leads me to assume its primary patrons are travelers and that's why few Edmontonians know about it. I was here with a big group on a weeknight, so the restaurant was nearly empty. Service was decent and the food was ok, but nothing special. I think they're trying for atmosphere and just miss the target. It feels unauthentic and a little forced. Last night I went there with high hopes, I love this restaurant in other cities. Last night I had the lamb shank, the potatoes were so dry they crumbled, the grilled veg was salty and cold, and the shank wasn't as good as it should. They served me wine in a tumbler glass, and when I went up to the bartender and asked for a wine glass he told me he only had one left, I told him I didn't care and to give it to me. This particular restaurant is bad, it's in a bad location, if it were on the west end I think I would thrive with more workers and it would be better. Must say it wasn't bad but an improvement for an Irish restaurant would be to make home made chunky chips rather than normal fries that you'd get in any other restaurant in Canada. One thing I did notice was there were quite a few fruit flies buzzing about, this is really strange for this time of year, I'd hate to come here in mid summer. Went here after a long day of touristsy things in edmonton was nice cause it was right next to our hotel. I got the small shepherds pie and my bf got a lamb shank. My pie was aamaazzzzing! My first time having it and I wasn't disappointed! My bf on the other hand didn't really like the lamb shank, to much sauce on it for his taste. We were at the Gateway Blvd location for the pie promotion offered by AMA on January 23rd. What a total waste of time to try a new restaurant. We had to wait and wait until a server came and asked if we needed a table for two and then she walked away. She strode by later and said they were out of salmon pie. We waited and finally a manager breezed by and said they were out of all pies. The manager promptly walked away without any further explanation as to whether or not there would be pies later. I will not come back to this restaurant again and will not recommend this restaurant to my friends. We had a Groupon for this restaurant. Hubby had a tender and delicious lamb shank with gravy, $19. It was so good that he's lucky I didn't eat it all. It came with average tasting mashed potatoes and properly cooked vegetables. I had the meatloaf sandwich, $13 which was quite tasty, but I personally would have preferred a cranberry chutney rather than a tomato chutney to really offset the flavours of the meatloaf, bacon and cheese. I had to leave to get to my event. At the pay station, I said " sorry, gotta go, food didn't arrive in time. I did mention before ordering.". The girl asked the manager next to her to adjust, they would do it later. but the manager said to me rather snottily that the food was ready, and I could have it. but it was too late. When we complained, the 1st beer was slammed on the table with no comment. Other tables were joking about the service, even going directly up to the bar to try to get their beers. I had lunch here on Saturday since I was in the north end of the city. I must say that I was impressed. All of my food was cooked to perfection. I usually like to try the steak sandwich and wings at various restaurants ( Brewsters, Browns Social, State and main, OJs, etc.) and this was one of the best. My husband and I have been to this restaurant many times and love the food and environment. Unfortunately, this last visit had many frustrations. We took my family for dinner and highly recommended many dishes. My sister ordered the bread and cheese dip. The server returned shortly to let us know they were out of that item...out of bread and cheese...on a friday evening. Ok, fine. My dad ordered the salmon leek pie. Our server returned soon after to tell him that is also unavailable. Now we're getting frustrated. All of the meals we did order were delicious and huge. Only problem was my crispy cod burger didn't have the sauce it was supposed to. Then we ordered the bread pudding bites for dessert. They came out and we noticed there was no Devonshire cream drizzled on top. Our server stated they "hadn't had the cream in months". Sorry, what?? How...at least offer ice cream or something since it's now an incomplete dish from what we ordered. Overall we were very disappointed with all the issues...2 dishes unavailable on a Friday evening, a missing sauce, and an incomplete dessert. They seemed so nonchalant about everything too.
