Thank you Fins Up for making our scuba trip to Hawaii possible!
Jessica L.

My boyfriend and I did our open water dive certification here and it was a marvelous choice! Chris and Nicole are amazing, they are the owners and instructors. There are other part-time instructors and they are all wonderful people. There are online materials that we have to finish before we can participate in class at the pool and lake. There is 1 pool day (8am-5pm); and two lake days. The pool day starts off with swimming 4 laps and floating/treading water for 10 minutes. Then you move on to learn the skills, but I unfortunately did not finish the course. Chris worked with my schedule and found me another instructor, Donna. Donna was available to accommodate my schedule and gave me private lessons. She is super awesome and she is so patient with me; she helped me cope with my fear of clearing the mask underwater and I eventually got my certification just in time before our vacation to Hawaii. I highly recommend Fins Up Scuba if you are looking to get certified in a fun and supportive environment!

Amazing dive shop! Chris and Nicole go out of their way to make sure you have the best experience possible! We've done certifications, bought gear, and done a trip with them and constantly recommend them to family and friends!

Found these guys on Groupon and made the plunge (hehehe) based on Yelp reviews. What an awesome scuba shop!!! Chris and Nichole are the nicest and most patient scuba instructors; Fins Up Scuba literally could not get any better! I am headed to Australia in a few weeks and wanted to get scuba certified so I can dive on the Great Barrier Reef. To be honest, I was terrified of scuba diving before going through these classes. I don't even like snorkeling, but my friend who I'm traveling with insisted that we dive on the reef. Happy to report that I am now PADI certified, and feel confident enough to get out and dive while in Australia!!! After seeing Fins Up Scuba on Groupon, I decided to call and get more information. I had about 20 questions and Chris answered everything without missing a beat. From our initial conversation, I felt comfortable with him and confident that I would be well taken care of. I stopped by the shop to sign up for the e-learning class - it's about $20 more than the Groupon, but you can do all the learning online rather than spending an entire Saturday sitting in their classroom. There are 6 online modules to go through before you take a quick test in-person. You have to do the online modules and test before you can do your pool dives and lake dives. The package price includes all your gear rentals for all of your dives. Fast forward to the dives - we spent an entire Sunday at a pool in East Mesa (literally 8am-5pm). There were two instructors, one dive master/instructor-in-training, and 5 students total. What a great student-teacher ratio!! You have a lots of skills to learn, and 5 short dives in the pool to practice the skills. The next weekend, we all gathered at Lake Pleasant to do our lake dives (2 on Saturday, 2 on Sunday, 4 "open water" dives total). While Lake Pleasant isn't necessarily a diver's paradise, it's such a rush to be diving for real! I would highly recommend Fins Up Scuba to anyone who is considering scuba lessons. I could not be more impressed with Chris and Nichole and the shop that they run. They are fantastic teachers, truly passionate about their sport and they make safety a high priority. From starting as a terrified student to now being PADI certified to dive up to 60 feet, I can say with confidence that I couldn't have done it without them! Thank you Chris!!! Thank you Nichole!!! 5 stars for service, 5 stars for convenience, 5 stars for professionalism. Do yourself a favor and call them now!

Recent trip to Bonaire with Fins Up Scuba, it was a blast!

The best of the best! Chris and his team are so thorough and make sure you are taken care of. He truly cares about the individual and their needs, and it shows! They're our go to shop for gear and education, and recently travelled with them too. In all our experiences we have nothing but amazing things to say! If you're looking for a local dive shop that really cares about the people, look no further! 10/10 recommend!

Top-notch. That's how to describe my entire experience with Cyborg Pirate…read more Their customer service impressed me from start to finish. When I stopped by the shop on a Friday to rent a regulator, the employees immediately greeted me and engaged me in conversation; they made me feel at home. Then on Sunday, I boarded the Diver Down and received the same warm welcome and friendly treatment from the boat's entire crew. The shop's boat, the Diver Down, likewise impressed me. It's a clean, well-maintained, and well-organized pontoon boat, with ample under-bench storage and walkways. I quite also like the lack of scuppers along the bench's underside; it's a small detail, but I knew that if my stuff got loose, it couldn't slide into the drink. Plus, the Diver Down features a well-organized and well-stocked supply of weights, as well as complimentary water and soft drinks. It's a nice ride. Similarly, the regulator I rented from Cyborg Pirate showed me that they're a serious shop. It was in excellent condition, with a DIN connection and a well-considered mix of rubber and braided hoses. Clearly, these folks are serious divers and aim to serve people of the same mindset. And, of course, the dives themselves were excellent. We anchored off an underwater hill that started at 35' and descended to well over 100', where my insta-buddy -- the boat's normal captain, who was fun-diving for the day -- led me on a deep dive into the 40'+ viz area at depth. Then, for the second dive, one of the divemasters arranged a friendly search-and-recovery competition. I didn't win, but I still had a great time. All told, my experience with Cyborg Pirate deeply impressed me. I recommend this shop, and I'll definitely go back again.

We are new to the Scuba World and had recently got our certification and went for a refresher. Luigi patiently worked with us on our buoyancy and feeling comfortable at 60 feet underwater. I honestly have no clue what some of these past reviewers are talking about. My husband and I have…read moredone all but our lake dive (which is scheduled for tomorrow morning) with Rick for our initial PADI certification and he has been great! We work a super hectic schedule as health care providers and parenting 2 busy children yet Rick made sure we'd be certified in a timely manner and worked with our schedule. He made sure we thoroughly understood all of the concepts prior to our first pool dive which went very well. My husband and I were joined by another male and female for our pool dive. Rick took his time with each of us. He taught us the skill and watched us perform it while providing corrections if necessary. NOT ONCE did I feel put down or belittled. Rick takes pride in his classes and store and empowers his students. That being said, scuba diving puts you in a primitive surrounding. We, as humans, are not meant to breathe underwater; I want to be safe. I'd rather be corrected on my skills in a pool than drown in the ocean. I respect Rick as he is very knowledgable and experienced- he ensures you will be safe underwater. Honestly, I feel as if the prior reviews written by offended males must have been from insecure little men. Rick was nothing but understanding, caring, patient and compassionate with not only my husband and I; but the other 2 people who joined us on our pool dive. Thanks Rick!

This place is a lawsuit waiting to happen. The other negative reviews you read on this shop are…read moreunfortunately accurate. Rick, the owner has a wealth of knowledge about diving, but shoots himself in the foot every opportunity he gets. He seems to have developed a habit of cutting corners when teaching new divers. He's very moody and at times talks down to his students. He's also inappropriate with women and brings up politics when he's teaching. If you choose to use Scottsdale Scuba, beware of the bipolar bear, better yet go somewhere else.

The knowledge and passion for the sport is quite apparent in their mannerisms. As for the instruction, both Ryan and Josh nailed it. I have been a high school PE teacher and football coach for 37 years and I can comfortably acknowledge that the two of them are accomplished "teachers" of their craft. The way they break down the individual skills, explain them, demonstrate them and then guide you through them makes the skills easy to perform. Anyways, appreciate you guys and the entire team at Salt & Sea, what a great experience! I look forward to being part of their community/family. Greg

This is one of those things for you have to try it on and person, and shop local. Yes you can send it back if it doesn't fit but a brick and mortar dive shop is important because they have the experience to answer technical questions and ask probing questions to get you the right fit. One thing I thought was pretty cool is they have a local Lake clean up. I definitely appreciate this culture of being stewards to the Earth.
