Came to town to visit family and get in a couple dives. I'm an avid cold-water scuba diver from the Pacific Northwest as well as a certified scuba instructor, so I have a fairly high bar set when it comes to dive difficulty, dive buddies, and dive experiences. I called the shop to see if they would provide a guide to help familiarize me to the best dive place around, which happens to be off Vista Point on Lake Pleasant: they did NOT disappoint! They connected me with one of their Master Instructors, Jeff Guarino, who got my rental tanks and weights loaded up for our 8 am meetup. Once at the dive site, Jeff expertly provided a site brief, including location of closest emergency response (fire department). I know this is supposed to be about the shop, but they provided Jeff, and he was great. A conscientious dive buddy/dive leader with excellent underwater communication and dive skills. If you need a buddy or guide, Jeff is your man. Aside from that, the shop is a 5 Star PADI location. They have a decent new gear selection. I didn't rent anything but tanks and weights, but I saw they have full gear rental options as listed on their well designed website. Of note: - they only carry aluminum tanks, so if you're used to diving steel 100's like many of us in the PNW, don't forget to add some weight. Those tanks can get bubbly toward the end of your dive; - they provide tank fills, but note that they do not (as of this posting) do Nitrox fills; - friendly and knowledgeable staff; - Jeff Guarino works out of there; - pool on site for training purposes! read more

Deceptive and Crooked Business Practice. I was signed up to go on a trip with this shop. A few days before the trip, the boat had a problem and cancelled the trip. Although the shop gets a full refund for the trip, Steve Bennet refused to ge me a full refund. When I spoke with him on the phone, he said it was the shop's normal procedure to take the money for the deposit and apply it to next year's trip. When I told him I may not go on next year's trip, he said I would lose my deposit. I pointed out that if he fills my spot next year, another person would pay the full fee. When asked about the $200, he told me the shop would keep my deposit in that case. Basically the shop would make a $200 profit off of everyone who signed up for this year's trip but didn't go on next year's trip. They are using my money to hold the boat for next year without my consent AND keeping the money if I don't go NEXT year. ls that underhanded and crooked or what? I have already contacted the Arizona Attorney General's fraud complaint division read more

Had the best, best refresher course with Brooke. I had to reschedule because of a pool incident the day before, but she went out of her way to come back the next day just for me. Like many other people my age, the movie Jaws completely traumatized me. I have a deep fear of the ocean and would never have considered diving... ...until I was given the opportunity to go on a dream vacation sailing around the Caribbean. Damn you dream vacation, you're making me face my fears! I had a whopping two weeks to get my open water certification or else I'd spend some quality time sitting alone on a boat. After some frustrating research I found the Scuba Shop. The shop offers either a three week course or an accelerated four day program. Perfect! The cost of the course is reasonable, although there are some kind of hidden costs. The quoted price gets you the class and pool time, it doesn't get you the four open water dives necessary to actually get certified. I didn't really care, but it would have been nice to know ahead of time. The Instructor, Casey W, was amazing. He was able to clearly explain all the details we needed to not die, and he did it in a practical way. I can't say enough about how great a job he did. Thanks to The Scuba Shop I was able to get certified in about a week, taking into account the open water dives. Not only am I certified, but I genuinely enjoy diving! Who would have thought? I am now ready for an amazing trip, some great diving and not getting eaten by a vengeful Great White. read more

Scott, Gina (both who I've trained under) and Steve (this guy is hilarious) among others are truly knowledgeable and go above and beyond to make sure you understand the skills needed to be a safe diver. Our family is planning a trip to Hawaii, so I encouraged my son to take some dive lessons. He found the Scuba Shop - and did his Open Water training with Fernando. I hadn't been diving in 6 years, so I called Fernando and asked about switching from SSI to PADI. He was very helpful and explained my options. We decided that I would get my Advanced Open Water cert - and he was flexible enough with his scheduling that I was able to train with my son after he passed his Open Water class. Jeff also filled in for Fernando on our last AOW dives and was awesome as well. We have gotten to know Steve too. I just can't say enough about the quality of the instruction and the care these guys take for all of their customers. Also, their training and rental equipment is far superior to what I've seen used at other dive shops. My husband and I completed our Open Water certification on 10/8/17. Our instructor was Dennis Harvan with the Scuba Shop. Dennis was an outstanding instructor. He was patient, knowledgeable, enthusiastic about scuba diving, and he has a great sense of humor! - All the things I look for in an instructor. I am looking forward to working with Dennis in the future as I work toward becoming a Dive Master. After working with Dennis I cannot imagine working with a different diving instructor because Dennis set the bar very high as an instructor and he proved to be an awesome person too! My husband and I selected great scuba diving equipment at the shop. We both purchased a mask, fins, snorkel, diving boots and a suit. The quality of the products we purchased is great and the shop had good selection of various diving products. The shop does a great job taking care of their students, as soon as we walked in we knew we were in good hands. Fernando helped us select products best fitted for us and Jeff made the signing up process go very smoothly. The shop organizes various diving trips across the country throughout the year for their students which makes it very convenient to go diving. They even go on shark diving excursions! The best part of this scuba shop is that your association with them does not need to end once you complete your course, they have created a family setting with their staff members and they include all of their students in their scuba diving adventures! About a year ago, I approached the dive shop that I had frequented for many years about wrapping up my PADI Master Scuba Diver certification. I learned at that time that they had decided to give up their PADI affiliation, which I was sad to hear as I've been a PADI diver since I was 17. So, the hunt started to find a new shop to complete my training. I'm an engineer, so I tend to research things quite a bit. Found many shops around the valley, and several that were more conveniently located for me, but decided on The Scuba Shop, because of their PADI 5-Star IDC level and their on-site indoor heated pool. I just want to say that I am a certified Open Water diver and the Scuba Shop and Kye Leslie are to thank for that. One of my biggest fears was being underwater, I took the 4 day class. I had plenty of time to learn all I needed, what I needed was more time to get comfortable in the water than what came with the class. no problem, they were totally flexible, and yes i did have to pay an extra fee, but it was reasonable and i was taking up the instructors time and I did not mind at all. I took twice as long as the others in the class (which was my husband and one other nice gentleman). I also had to have an extra trip to the lake and the pool, as I was having major anxiety issues. I am happy to say they were very patient, encouraging and easy to work with. I got certified, went on my trip and I actually look forward to diving now. While i don't see advanced open water in my future anytime soon, I do think that one day with this shop and lots of practice it may be a possibility. read more

I can not say enough about the Scuba Shop and particular Fernando. 3 years ago I needed to get two of my children ages 10 & 12 scuba certified and didn't have a lot of time to do it in. Fernando was so accommodating and patient. Even when we went to do the open water dive and my 10 year old daughter freaked out--he was calm and patient with her. Fast forward 3 years and my now 15 year old son is getting ready to dive in the Galapagos. I sent Fernando a quick text and he immediately set up a time for him to come in for a refresher course. I was taking my fiancee in to try to get some good free dive equipment. I am new to the area, but not new to free diving. I have free dived for many years, but couldn't the last several years, so I wanted some new equipment myself. Walked into the store and was immediately helped by a knowledgable gentleman. Everyone was nice and helpful. They only thing that bothered me was the prices. I am usually very good at double checking prices online before I buy. This time (of course the time I don't check) I got shafted. I bought a combo for $100 and it's available at a lot of other places for about $50-$60 (another local sub shop had it for $56). Now, I do not mind paying more, $10, $15, maybe even $20 more to support a local business, but $40-$50 more at that price point made me a little upset. I found out when I was home and planned to return it, but their return policy is only for a store credit. Other than that it was a great experience, just can't shake that feeling of being price gouged. They also have really good quality gear and great, knowledgable staff. UPDATE: Scuba shop reached out and showed concern over my issues and even offered a partial refund. Although I might take them up on their offer, the fact that they even bothered to respond (very nice and kind) shows their merit and integrity to be a good business. They even offered to price match anything I find online. Thank you scuba shop, I will definitely return to your business. read more

I went to a discover scuba class to support a friend of mine going to through the instructor course. Never did I imagine that this would become such a love. This is in large part attributed to the staff at the scuba shop. They are all avid divers and extremely knowledgeable about the equipment and courses. I have since been on a few dives with many different people that work at the Scuba Shop and I feel like part of the family. Every time I take my kids in for swimming lessons (Aquatots in the same building), I feel like I am walking into the Cheers bar where everyone knows my name. I just finished a weekend Scuba certification class at The Scuba Shop. I choose to pass 3 other Dive facilities on my way to The Scuba Shop because they had the heated indoor pool and on their web site they seemed like nice enough people so I figured what the heck; I will do my classes there. Let me just say that I clearly made the correct decision. I simply can't imagine there is another valley facility that can top the level of service, care and professionalism that I received there. The facilities are very clean and well put together, a very top-notch business here, the space is well thought out. My instructor is Mike and I can't say enough good thing about him, nervousness that any class mate might have had, Mike did a wonderful job and was a calming influence in what could be a scary event for anyone; breathing underwater for the first time. Any question that I had, Mike didn't make me feel stupid for asking, I appreciate that. I can imagine that hard core scuba instructors could come off arrogant and annoyed by answering basic questions; ie how do I turn the air on? If a shark attacks me can I stab it with my dive knife? Or stopping the pool session because "someone" had to go to the restroom for what was probably the 15th time. Mike never once presented himself as being annoyed. I recommend anyone that plans on taking classes that they sign up for Mike. Mike even ran the class longer than scheduled to make sure all skills were tackled and done correctly. I never once felt rushed or like Mike was clock watching. I couldn't have asked for a better experience than I had at The Scuba Shop. I can only guess it annoys the employees after awhile, I know it would me, but I really liked the Caribbean steel drum elevator music in the store, nice touch. read more
