The is a great shop with a vast array of equipment and accessories. Being a new diver I needed an entire kit, Kathy and Vince worked with me as I took my time trying on several different BCDs. I kept saying this was a lot like dress shopping, you need the right fit, be comfortable and if you can look good too. Kathy was super patient and offered her advice during the process. Then it was on to the regulators, Vince really helped me on this one, he customized and tweaked the unit so it was perfect. He also does the servicing in house. I also purchased a wrist unit dive computer, which I can't wait to get in some warm water and try out. The shop has a section of used wet suits and equipment for those who want to save some money. They're rental equipment is rotated out yearly so you always have great quality when in need. I'm sure I'll be visiting frequently, great place with great people! read more

I had a very expensive trip to Fiji lined up for my anniversary last September. I had not used my scuba equipment in 7 years, Having said that, I bought it new those 7 years back and used for a recertification for myself(NASDS had gone out of biz) and I wanted to keep my wife company when she took her PADI course. Anyway, I brought my gear into this place and wanted it recertified. I told both the sales staff and the tech person that same story and that my wife and I were strictly warm water occasional divers.....so I was as we all are, in reliance on Saguaro doing there job as we were paying them to do. They charged me just under 400.00 to get everything(I thought) inspected and ready to go. I get to Fiji(Savusavu) about 10 days or so after I picked up the gear and my dive computer did not work at all. Nothing was said to me when I picked it up and the receipt showed they had changed the battery but nothing of note. I did research after I returned from my trip and found that the model (Aeris A300) was no longer made, and the company that made it no longer was in business- so that in and of itself was not my issue--the real issue was that this model had an LED screen issue and the screens all went bad and were not readable. I sent an e mail to Saguaro- they took a couple of weeks and finally asked me for more information even though I had sent my receipts to them, I sent the model taken off the actual wrist computer. I never heard back. At this point, it is close to the holidays and I am hesitant to write a bad review as I don't like impacting a business negatively right before the holidays--In hindsight I regret this as they do not care one bit about me as a customer or human. After the New Year, I called and the person I spoke to was very defensive, claimed it was not the stores fault and barely let me get a word in edgewise. He told me to come in and he would work out a deal. I finally wrote to the owner which right now is exactly a month ago. No response-- I am sure it was relegated to a waste basket. SO, buyer beware--I was ripped off for the price of a dive computer that was released to me with a known problem and it did not work. No one discussed this with me at all. I went out and bought yet another battery and tested it again-- no luck- the screen is bad as they all seem to be. So, the bottom line is they did not test the dive computer but charged me for it and I started that dive with bad equipment and had not depth, pressure or any function of my DC. I relied on my dive buddy but was pressure blind and unsafe due to this lack of concern. Awful. read more

Purchased the Discover Scuba course via Groupon, and had a total blast! Wasn't sure I'd be able to convince myself to actually breathe under water, but was pleasantly surprised when I did. My wife and I went into Saguaro Scuba recently to update our equipment. We have been diving over 25 years with the same equipment, which we serviced regularly, but it was time to get something new. After reading some "best of scuba equipment" lists to get some ideas, we intended just to look around a bit and get a feel for the new stuff in person. The selection was far better than anything we expected - all the top brands and prices comparable to the very best prices we were seeing online. Rylee spent over an hour with us, going over the choices, giving us her recommendations, and pointing out the pros and cons of different brands. As clearly knowledgeable as she was, she didn't hesitate to check with others in the shop if something wasn't her specific area of expertise. Her wealth of knowledge and sincere desire to just help was amazing. Rylee went so far out of her way to answer all our questions, let us try on different brands, check availability of different colors of equipment that she special ordered for us...she was an absolute pleasure to work with and made the whole experience so enjoyable. We ended up buying everything we needed to dive for the next 25 years and will be coming back to this wonderful shop from now on! read more

I had gone on two discover scuba dives in Cabo and Maui and was excited to explore the beauty of aquatic life in depth. Literally. I decided to embark on the mission of getting scuba certified. So living in Arizona, how does one even get certified here!? You think that it's all desert, but it's possible because of the lakes! I did some research and found a nearby scuba company called Saguaro Scuba on Groupon. For just $209 you can get SDI certified for up to 60 feet anywhere in the world! The package included a 16 chapter independent online course, a short day of classroom review/demonstration, rental equipment, a full day learning scuba skills in a pool, and 2 days of open water diving at Lake Pleasant. We just needed to provide our own mask, snorkel, fins, boots, (hood and gloves if it's the cold season which it was for me-December). It took me about 2 weeks to finish the 16 chapters. It covered topics like aquatic life, nitrogen narcosis, breathing air underwater, currents, equipment assembly, diving skills, and emergency situations just to name a few. There was a quiz at the end of each chapter and a final exam which required at least a 80% to pass. Upon completion, I could then sign up for the diving skills portion. **Important: You must have the first two weekends of the month completely available when signing up for this portion. I picked December. Mark, my awesome instructor was really knowledgeable and helpful throughout the entire process. There were two other friendly dive masters, Sean and Chris who assisted us. The first Saturday of December was comprised of 3 hours of classwork (10-1pm) where we went over missed final exam questions. Then we practiced assembly and disassembly of our equipment. The staff at Saguaro were really awesome and set me up with all the rental equipment I needed for Sunday's water skills class. This included my 3mm wetsuit, BCD, weights, regulators, and 2 oxygen tanks. Casey helped me with my personal equipment purchase. It could get pretty pricey, but he showed me a package which was about $120 and it included scuba-appropriate fins, boots, mask, and snorkel. I also ended up buying a hood $35 and gloves $60. I also recommend this spit spray $3 which was a lifesaver for defogging the mask. The following day, Sunday (9am-4pm. Lunch break 12:30-1) we learned all our skills in a nearby heated outdoor school pool. We started off with a 200 meter swim and 10 minutes treading water. We then learned the scuba skills including underwater mask removal, retrieval of regulator, Cesa, buoyancy control, snorkel to regulator exchange, out of air receive air from buddy, large boat entry, small boat entry, free flowing oxygen, removal of BCD above and below water, & leg cramp release to name a few. Mark, Sean, and Chris were really patient with us. I felt lucky because we had a small class size of 5, so we got a lot of individual attention. Some of the other months had class sizes up to 14+. Once we finished up our skills for the day, we returned to Saguaro Scuba to return our tanks, wetsuits, BCD, regulators, and weights. Now for the second weekend. We all went to Saguaro Scuba on Friday to pick up the rental equipment for the weekend. It was projected to be about 55 degrees in the water at Lake Pleasant. We got our 7mm wetsuit, 2 tanks, BCD, weights and regulators. We were to meet at Lake Pleasant at 8:30AM and the day would last til 12:30ish. I brought a tarp which was so helpful in setting up all the equipment because the terrain by the lake was really rocky and there were a ton of burrs (stickies) that cling onto everything! This Saturday we just had to demonstrate all the skills we learned the Sunday before. It was a total blast! We returned to Saguaro Scuba to exchange our 2 tanks for 2 new ones. The following day (Sunday), we continued to demonstrate our remaining skills. We also did a compass dive which can be difficult, but fun at the same time! I had the best scuba buddy and we helped each other constantly. Mark signed us off and sent in the paperwork for our certification! It was a remarkable and memorable experience. Going through the process was extremely rewarding and I am proud to say that I am now scuba certified! I dove in Cabo a few weeks ago and saw some cool reef sharks, tropical fish, a cave and a ship wreck. I'll be diving in Thailand/Bali in April. I completed the online SDI training that Saguaro Scuba gave me an account for. I did not pass the tests on every try. But I spent LOTS of extra time re-reading the material just to burn it into my brain and passed. And I still retake the online tests from SDI as a refresher. Our swimming pool training was to be held on the first weekend of January 2023. They gave us 7mil wetsuits as the pool was barely warm-just warm enough for steam to emit from the surface. And that wetsuit was extremely hard to use. With all my equipment on and 18lbs of weight on each side of the BC (4 front and 5 back per side per their training). I got in the water and the first step was to drop to the bottom of the 5 ft deep section of the pool. Each time I tried, I kept automatically turning to the right or left. The instructor looked at my like what the hell is my problem. The second instructor was equally annoyed and he too changed my weights. I felt like it was my mistake. Next came the mask removal and clearing step. I could not stay vertical enough to fully purge my mask after talking it off completely as I could not stay at a vertical angle and therefore not able to tilt my head back enough. Then came the BC strap disconnect step where you kneel on one knee and bear hug the entire BC & Tank and rotate it to set it on the opposite knee/leg that is horizontal wit that foot on the bottom of the pool. Upon doing that I kept floating to the surface of the water in 10-12 feet depth. The instructor then signaled that we surface and move to the edge of the pool to talk to the senior instructor. He was nice to let me come back another weekend and I initially agreed. Then once out of the water, I wanted to simply discuss the methods and his response was verbally; "we show-you do-no questions". Then he said he does not think scuba diving is something for me. After that, I just decided to go to another scuba shop. I was never afraid of free snorkeling and just did in Cozumel a month or two ago. And I never lose my cool under water. I have 2 relatives and several friends, including the doctor who signed off on my medical screening paperwork that have spent a lot of time scuba diving over many years. They were surprised with treatment I received and were also surprised with the decision to use 7mil wetsuits. I know scuba diving is a life or death sport and understand the criticality of the training. Now that warmer weather is here I will find a diving shop/instructor that can provide private lessons. Saguaro was kind enough to refund the lake portion of the training. read more

I am writing this review from the experience I had in the pool training from Saguaro Scuba. I talked to my daughter who has been on about 200 open water dives all over the world, and also my Navy buddy who is also open water certified. The instructors did not check my equipment. Aren't you and your dive buddy supposed to check each others' equipment? They gave me a 7mil wetsuit without a weight belt and I bobbed like a cork until I put my BCD on with 5&5-4&4 weights as directed the day before my pool class. The first 3 times I went underwater in about 5 feet of water I slowly fell forward then tilted to one side or the other. The first instructor 'adjusted' the weights. I tried again but it didn't help. Then another instructor looked at my weights and said they aren't right. I replied I DID put in 5&5-4&4 weights in the BCD pockets at the beginning. Both instructors seemed ambivalent that I just kept slowly falling forward. This position prevented me from being able tilt my head back far enough to completely purge my facemask from being partially filled with water or completely when I took it off. In deeper water when I was to disconnect the BCD straps and rotate it around to my right side and set it on my right knee (keeping my regulator in my mouth), I bear-hugged it (as they told me to) but that 7mil wetsuit still made me start surfacing. I know this is a life or death sport. But the owner or senior training instructor told me they won't continue so I asked if I can come back and he replied I would have to complete the entire pool portion of the course. I agreed to that. But I wanted to ask to him a couple technical questions but he boldly interrupted me and said he does care what I have to say. Basically he said 'we show-you do, that's it'! Then he told me something to the effect of 'in his personal opinion, this is not for me'. I tried to talk to him again just for more understanding and again he interrupted me saying the same things. So I just decided to go to a different dive shop for lessons. I never panicked nor lost my composure during the roughly 5 hours in the water of the training. I felt it was rather unprofessional of a few of the instructors talking amongst themselves saying what's for lunch about an hour or two into the pool training. Then after the lunchbreak I overheard instructors talking about this class having to run later than they planned. I was never told that I can rent everything until after I spent $240 on boots, fins and snorkel. I'm sure I'm not the only trainee who did not pass the first time. And I do not know how Saguaro Scuba has so many 5 star reviews. read more

Paid $142 to get regulator and BCD serviced. Got them home to discover that the back plastic where the tank secures to the BCD was shattered in half. I brought it back and they just shrugged their shoulders and said that it probably happened a long time ago. No, it's a very clean and shiny break in the plastic. Completely ruined. They will even do up to two FREE tank fills per person per day (donation jar optional), and decent prices on gear. They coordinate dives and give great general advice. Best service I have seen in 10+ years of diving. I had them inspect my reg/bcd hoping to have it serviced for a trip. The news was not good; the bc and reg were very corroded. Even though they knew we lived in Chicago, and would not be renting/buying at this time from them, they let me know the "bad" news with great honesty, and showed me the cracks, etc, that would make my gear unusable eventually, even if repaired now. All this at no charge...they then stayed open an extra half an hour just chatting with us about diving. Though we will rent gear in Hawaii this trip, we would absolutely rent or buy from them if we had more time and lived in AZ...when my husband and I DO decide to buy a couple of regulators, we will be buying here, and picking up or having it delivered. Lucklily, we are in AZ often. don't go anywhere else! read more

I'm giving it 2 stars only because it is relatively close by and the store is kept clean and orderly. The reason it is getting only 2 stars is due to the employees. One would think that an employee would not be condescendingly rude to a customer (or even to his fellow co-worker) when explaining how one of the pieces of equipment they sell operates. Granted the 1st employee should have known how the gear operates or could have just admitted he was sure, but the 2nd employee could have been less of a condescending know-it-all. For this reason, definitely will be taking our business elsewhere read more
