The is a great shop with a vast array of equipment and accessories. Being a new diver I needed an entire kit, Kathy and Vince worked with me as I took my time trying on several different BCDs. I kept saying this was a lot like dress shopping, you need the right fit, be comfortable and if you can look good too. Kathy was super patient and offered her advice during the process. Then it was on to the regulators, Vince really helped me on this one, he customized and tweaked the unit so it was perfect. He also does the servicing in house. I also purchased a wrist unit dive computer, which I can't wait to get in some warm water and try out. The shop has a section of used wet suits and equipment for those who want to save some money. They're rental equipment is rotated out yearly so you always have great quality when in need. I'm sure I'll be visiting frequently, great place with great people!

I had gone on two discover scuba dives in Cabo and Maui and was excited to explore the beauty of aquatic life in depth. Literally. I decided to embark on the mission of getting scuba certified. So living in Arizona, how does one even get certified here!? You think that it's all desert, but it's possible because of the lakes! I did some research and found a nearby scuba company called Saguaro Scuba on Groupon. For just $209 you can get SDI certified for up to 60 feet anywhere in the world! The package included a 16 chapter independent online course, a short day of classroom review/demonstration, rental equipment, a full day learning scuba skills in a pool, and 2 days of open water diving at Lake Pleasant. We just needed to provide our own mask, snorkel, fins, boots, (hood and gloves if it's the cold season which it was for me-December). It took me about 2 weeks to finish the 16 chapters. It covered topics like aquatic life, nitrogen narcosis, breathing air underwater, currents, equipment assembly, diving skills, and emergency situations just to name a few. There was a quiz at the end of each chapter and a final exam which required at least a 80% to pass. Upon completion, I could then sign up for the diving skills portion. **Important: You must have the first two weekends of the month completely available when signing up for this portion. I picked December. Mark, my awesome instructor was really knowledgeable and helpful throughout the entire process. There were two other friendly dive masters, Sean and Chris who assisted us. The first Saturday of December was comprised of 3 hours of classwork (10-1pm) where we went over missed final exam questions. Then we practiced assembly and disassembly of our equipment. The staff at Saguaro were really awesome and set me up with all the rental equipment I needed for Sunday's water skills class. This included my 3mm wetsuit, BCD, weights, regulators, and 2 oxygen tanks. Casey helped me with my personal equipment purchase. It could get pretty pricey, but he showed me a package which was about $120 and it included scuba-appropriate fins, boots, mask, and snorkel. I also ended up buying a hood $35 and gloves $60. I also recommend this spit spray $3 which was a lifesaver for defogging the mask. The following day, Sunday (9am-4pm. Lunch break 12:30-1) we learned all our skills in a nearby heated outdoor school pool. We started off with a 200 meter swim and 10 minutes treading water. We then learned the scuba skills including underwater mask removal, retrieval of regulator, Cesa, buoyancy control, snorkel to regulator exchange, out of air receive air from buddy, large boat entry, small boat entry, free flowing oxygen, removal of BCD above and below water, & leg cramp release to name a few. Mark, Sean, and Chris were really patient with us. I felt lucky because we had a small class size of 5, so we got a lot of individual attention. Some of the other months had class sizes up to 14+. Once we finished up our skills for the day, we returned to Saguaro Scuba to return our tanks, wetsuits, BCD, regulators, and weights. Now for the second weekend. We all went to Saguaro Scuba on Friday to pick up the rental equipment for the weekend. It was projected to be about 55 degrees in the water at Lake Pleasant. We got our 7mm wetsuit, 2 tanks, BCD, weights and regulators. We were to meet at Lake Pleasant at 8:30AM and the day would last til 12:30ish. I brought a tarp which was so helpful in setting up all the equipment because the terrain by the lake was really rocky and there were a ton of burrs (stickies) that cling onto everything! This Saturday we just had to demonstrate all the skills we learned the Sunday before. It was a total blast! We returned to Saguaro Scuba to exchange our 2 tanks for 2 new ones. The following day (Sunday), we continued to demonstrate our remaining skills. We also did a compass dive which can be difficult, but fun at the same time! I had the best scuba buddy and we helped each other constantly. Mark signed us off and sent in the paperwork for our certification! It was a remarkable and memorable experience. Going through the process was extremely rewarding and I am proud to say that I am now scuba certified! I dove in Cabo a few weeks ago and saw some cool reef sharks, tropical fish, a cave and a ship wreck. I'll be diving in Thailand/Bali in April. Thank you to everyone at Saguaro Scuba for making this a reality! :)

An amazing career day wearing Saguaro Dive equipment.

The No Limits staff were nothing but helpful and informative throughout the booking day before_of process. I was able to sign up for a beginner class in the pool for just $35, which was amazing and so worth it. Unfortunately I entered in the incorrect address for the pool and ended up arriving almost 15 minutes late. The instructor told me that it was just me in the course and so I could reach out to the office to reschedule. I told him this was no problem and then I asked if I could still swim? He told me that I could and I am so glad that I waited as one of the instructors, Chris, was available to help me. He gave me a one on one class on how to put on my gear and scuba dive. Scuba diving is not pretty as you got stuff coming out of your nose and mouth, but it is pretty and calming when you are underwater breathing and the rest of the world seems so far away. I loved every minute of this experience especially once I got used to breathing through my mouth and holding my nose to let my ears pop. I swam in seven feet plus, which was difficult at times, so I love that Chris was happy to have me swim in the shallower 4 feet. Chris waa super kind, patient, and fun; I really appreciate his time!! I definitely want to get certified as I want to do this more and more. Most likely due to time and funds it wont be until the fall, but I will be back! Thank you!

When I stopped by the shop on a Friday to rent a regulator, the employees immediately greeted me and engaged me in conversation; they made me feel at home. Then on Sunday, I boarded the Diver Down and received the same warm welcome and friendly treatment from the boat's entire crew. The shop's boat, the Diver Down, likewise impressed me. It's a clean, well-maintained, and well-organized pontoon boat, with ample under-bench storage and walkways. I quite also like the lack of scuppers along the bench's underside; it's a small detail, but I knew that if my stuff got loose, it couldn't slide into the drink. Plus, the Diver Down features a well-organized and well-stocked supply of weights, as well as complimentary water and soft drinks. It's a nice ride. Similarly, the regulator I rented from Cyborg Pirate showed me that they're a serious shop. It was in excellent condition, with a DIN connection and a well-considered mix of rubber and braided hoses. Clearly, these folks are serious divers and aim to serve people of the same mindset. And, of course, the dives themselves were excellent. We anchored off an underwater hill that started at 35' and descended to well over 100', where my insta-buddy -- the boat's normal captain, who was fun-diving for the day -- led me on a deep dive into the 40'+ viz area at depth. Then, for the second dive, one of the divemasters arranged a friendly search-and-recovery competition. I didn't win, but I still had a great time. All told, my experience with Cyborg Pirate deeply impressed me. I recommend this shop, and I'll definitely go back again.

**Review for Advanced Diving Certification**…read more After completing my basic Open Water Certification, I was excited to get going on my Advanced Certification. I felt that the follow-through to help me progress in my scuba diving education was poor. It seems that Groupon (and other similar deals) brought in quite an influx of beginners to Scuba Magic - not a bad thing! I still stand by their basic Open Water class. However, they were unprepared to take beginners to the next level. As I recall, it took a couple months to book my Advanced dives due to instructor availability. I felt like I was more of a nuisance even though I was a *return* customer that wasn't using a coupon deal. Regardless, once we finally got out to the lake, it was me, one of the student instructors, and another guy with a military background. Both of those guys excelled at the different skills, and it felt unsafe for me to copycat their moves and hope for the best. At one point, I was left alone in the murky darkness of the lake, not sure which way was up. I slowly brought myself to the surface, visibly upset the other guys practically ditched me to explore somewhere else. I left and didn't bother finishing the last skill (which I'd already done on a recreational dive before). The Advanced Certification was ultimately mailed to me but I'll look elsewhere as I look to become Rescue Dive certified. **Update from Facebook Page: We have closed the location but are still offering private lessons. A friend and I agreed to get certified and that was that. Previous to signing up for this…read morebeginner's course, I'd never thought at all about scuba diving and had zero opinion of the sport. I had done something similar with a motorcycle license about two years ago and haven't done so much as sit on a motorcycle since. Would this pursuit end as nothing more than another dusty license achieved on my quest to become a poor man's James Bond? Or even worse... James Bond Jr.? The following is not to be used for inspiration. We visited the shop and Gary gave us our PADI study guide/workbook and dive calculator and told us it was important that we complete the guide previous to starting class on September 4th. We had two months. Cut to September 3rd, we're removing the cellophane from the guide in the car driving home from a music festival in LA with hangovers. We complete 3 chapters. Pathetic. The class structure is as such: Week 1, Tuesday: classroom session 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM. (chapters 1-3!!) Week 1, Thursday: classroom session 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM. Week 1, Saturday: pool session 1:00 - 5:00 PM. Week 1, Sunday: pool session 1:00 - 5:00 PM. Week 2, Saturday: Lake Pleasant open water: 1:00 - 5:00 PM. Week 2, Sunday: Lake Pleasant open water: 1:00 - 5:00 PM. The classroom sessions were taught by Gary in a way that was not boring. That said, it IS a classroom environment so come alert. Whenever I would start for my phone or a daydream, I found reminding myself that stupidity underwater could kill me was a pretty good way to return to attentiveness. Be prepared to spend around $250-$350 on gear. Fins, boots, mask and snorkel are a requisite primer for getting you in the water. ...and in the water is where Gary and Edward really shine. Here the 8-10 of us were in the somewhat daunting task of learning a completely new and foreign skill set and feeling pretty good about it. I never felt unclear on what skill we were to be demonstrating. Gary and Edward would describe and demonstrate the skill above water and then perform it underwater. We would follow suit one by one and then head to the surface for constructive criticisms. The two pool days were like this and the two Lake Pleasant days somewhat mimic the pool days but in the much deeper open water setting. I thought being underwater was so awesome that even dumpy Lake Pleasant (complete with 6' visibility and nothing to see but the occasional rusty can previously home to some shitty American lager) was a blast. On Sunday, 9/16/2012, we completed the Open Water certification with Scuba Magic. My concerns of repeating the motorcycle experience were laid to rest and I'm happy to report that I'm looking into my first real dive trip ASAP.
