All three parties dealt with this. All are trustworthy and told me it needed a minor repair like a muffler. Big A Auto told me the entire under area of car had been messed up from someone who didn't know what they were doing. He said it'd be $2,000 to fix it. At the time I thought maybe the college driver had let someone work on it so I paid it. My mistake as I didn't take time to think it thru. I know the folks I bought it from were honest and long time friends. Big A lied. They showed me of a fuzzy gray video t was supposed to be the problem area but of course it meant nothing to me and was just part of the deception. I will never go back to Big A again. Since I am an older woman needing the service I think they felt they could lie to me about the car.

Matt is an absolute angel!!…read more The steep pitch of the Ichiban exit (yes I was driving at a normal speed and yes others have had the same trouble! - but no, the restaurant hasn't fixed it ) caused my car to bottom out and knocked my bumper RIGHT OFF!! We heard a bang and a scrape so immediately pulled over in to the first parking lot, which happened to be Vaughn's Automotive. We called the 24 hour emergency number and Matt came right over to help us! He patched us back together so we could safely drive until we can get a more full repair. He was competent, he was kind, he was helpful, and he was funny ... he took a bad situation and made it as good as we could've hoped for. This is a great and honest and kind man! You can feel confident about placing your trust in him! I drove from Rockford to visit my daughter and thanks to Matt, we still made it to line dancing!!

Matt, the owner, picked me up at home, took me to the car, ran the codes, and figured out the issue was a loose air intake duct. He tightened that and my car was good to go! If I had gone to anyone else, like a BMW dealership, I'm sure they would have taken advantage and overcharged me for a simple fix. I'll be having all my cars worked on at Vaughn's. He's earned a lifetime customer. Best experience I've ever had with a mechanic... Honest and dependable! That's what you want in a mechanic shop and that's exactly what Matt and Vaughn's delivers!

Luckily, I know enough about cars to know when that's happening, so I always want to pay special attention to let others know how auto shops fare. Dave and Pat get my seal of approval! 1. They're easy to communicate with. Whether through text, email or phone, I always know where things are in the process. 2. They give you rides to and from. And at least in my experience it's never been awkward or uncomfortable. 3. They do a thorough check. I came in most recently for an oil change and a check tire light. They not only diagnosed and fixed the problem with the light, but found another issue. I've had places do that before, but it was for upcharge services that I definitely didn't need, and they made me feel pressured. Dave and Pat let me know of at real issue in a pleasant, matter-of-fact way, along with all of my options. They even pointed out when I got my car later that my battery wasn't doing as well as it should and told me about how to go about getting it replaced for less elsewhere. 4. Their prices are fair. Like most people, I always worry how much I'll end up shelling out that I wasn't planning on originally. Dave and Pat makes their prices very clear before I agree--no "$5 for parts and anywhere from nothing to a million dollars on time, just depends on how long it takes." The cost is definitely fair. If you're looking for a kinda clean lobby to hang out in for an uncertain amount of time while people wearing matching clothes do something-or-other in the garage, this won't be your place (no major shade intended, but I worked at one of those shops for years, so trust me on this...). But if you want your car fixed by people you can feel confident in entrusting your keys to at a fair price, I suggest Dave and Pat's.

Owners Geri and Tim are both hands on and dedicated customer service folks who listen. After first getting service quotes from Nissan dealers both in Dubuque and Rockford I decided to give them a try three years ago after moving into the area and have never regretted (it). After "anally" comparing what I had paid with what we're currently paying for all parts and services and on like vehicles, the value and service are definitely with Leibold. As another comparison I have requested various service inspection quotes on three different vehicles (now) and from three different auto centers (each). I now never have to worry again whether an automotive center: actually did the work they billed for; over-billed for service work; or would provide questionable product and service. Also, in recently needing a new replacement vehicle quickly, both Tim and Geri shared their auto make knowledge which was a big help in what I chose. An automotive service vendor in today's market needs to be both honest and responsive. Leibold Auto Center is just that.

SECOND UPDATE! We're so near the end of this saga!…read more After the last update, I got another apologetic email from McKenzie, and finally spoke with the area manager, Ben, who was at pains to set everything right. He explained to me (without trying to excuse anything or defend his company to the death) what had gone on, he asked how he could make things right, and he looked at it as an opportunity for improving service. Here's what I really liked: he didn't throw his guys under the bus, either, but recognized that more training in the non-wrench stuff (communication, curveball customer service) was necessary. Given the amount of time I had to spend chasing down the part and making that part of things go, and the fact that the delay stranded me for an extra night in a hotel, I asked him to refund the labor charge, which he agreed to, no problem at all. So here's to Firestone, and I hope everything goes more smoothly for them now. In this silly rating system, I've bumped them from one to three stars: was it fun, no, but pretty much everybody was nice and we've got things straightened out. ------------ First Update from the last review, which is currently in the grays. The weirdest part so far is that after a lot of "we're so sorry, we're here to straighten this out" from Firestone's social media team (see reply to non-recommended review below), everything just went dark. No reply at all. An area manager was supposed to have contacted me two days ago, and so far nothing; Firestone's social media person (McKenzie I.?) doesn't respond when I email her and ask what's up (which her message to me asked me to do if the issue's not been taken care of). Well, nice social media show, guys, but so far it doesn't seem to be backed by any of the auto-care people. As for the repair - my mechanic doesn't actually believe the three-month-old coolant tank blew, though I'm inclined to believe Firestone Alan. Whatever; the larger immediate problem is there's also a heater core leak, which Firestone missed, and which is why I drove home breathing coolant vapor. I'd kind of expected that there'd be a problem behind the problem (and if I had to put down money, which I no doubt will because it's my freaking car) I'd bet it's a very undramatic head-gasket issue overpressurizing the cooling system. Here's how my guy at home handled a customer-service issue, btw (you listening, Firestone?): Like I said, coolant tank was new, still under warranty, which I'd forgotten. My guy doesn't have the busted tank to return to the mfr., because Firestone swapped it out and I didn't think to ask them to give it to me. He's crediting me for it anyway, will take the price off the heater-core job. That issue took...about 45 seconds to resolve, standing there talking with him. Try, try again....

1-Star Review -- Extremely Disappointed With Service…read more I went into Midas for a simple oil change and was originally quoted $130, which already seemed a bit high. After signing the paperwork, the appointment took over an hour for what was supposed to be a basic oil change and "inspection." When they were finished, the total suddenly jumped to $180, even though no one informed me of any change in price beforehand. They also did NOT put an oil change sticker on my windshield and didn't reset my service indicator on the dash -- basic steps any shop should complete. The worst part? The very next day, after washing my car, I noticed my entire underbody plastic shield hanging down, attached by only one or two bolts. This was not like that before I arrived, and it could have easily caused damage if it had come off while driving. Overall, the experience felt careless and unprofessional. I expected a routine oil change, not extra charges, missing steps, and potential damage to my car. I won't be returning.
