I have been a customer of Dave's since he was still working in a shop in his yard. I was delighted when he moved to Paiudin. He earned that "promotion" to a more traffic friendly location. I consider him and his wife and daughter to be friends, almost family. Over the years Dave has worked on close to a dozen guns for me, from simple adjustments to a complete cosmetic work over on a 1911, adding sights to two pistols and three rifles, stock work, tune ups, restorations, and more. I have send several people to him and they all were satisfied, even one man whose father's rifle was a $2,00 single shot .222 that was abused over the years and a wreck. He did a partial restoration on a Korean War bring back 1911 that turned out so well the customer's wife took it for her own and wont give it back. He had to buy a new gun for himself. I do not recommend this gunsmith. My gun sat there for 2 weeks no call from smith. I understand your busy and dave was gone for a week, but when i call in asking for your main guy (dave), and am told he will call me back, but i never do get called back for the last 2/3 weeks it is quite frustrating. Does not give me much confidence. It is a real shame as i have only ever heard good things about this gunsmith. A more professional approach maybe, via email about the status of my rifle/order. Something, a text, anything. But none was recieved, other then "Dave will call you back, he is busy." read more

Purchased a custom-built "match-grade" 1911 from Finks that wouldn't function, wouldn't load, and the slide wouldn't operate. Gunsmith blamed the ammunition, and claimed that he re-bored it, changing it from a high-quality competition pistol to a paperweight. Have sent the pistol out to one local expert who says that the pistol has several flaws in workmanship and design, and it was sent to a SAAMI forensic expert to determine how it was built, its flaws, and to determine what work has been done on it. Next: we have a reservation to send it and its twin to a lab for a detailed work-up. One round of 45 Auto ammunition was loaded into the pistol from a magazine, and the slide wouldn't operate, so we had to take the pistol back to Finks to have the problem diagnosed -- and had a conversation with the gunsmith explaining the that the pistol STILL HAD A CHAMBERED ROUND IN IT, with a witness to the conversation. When we arrived, I asked for a receipt so that I could write on the receipt that the firearm was still loaded -- and while waiting for the receipt to print, one of the gunsmiths came back, handed me a round, and explained that he had to put the slide in a vise and slam the pistol to get the round to eject. The round went into a ziplock bag for further use. After a bit of forensic work the round is going back to the manufacturer to see if it's the "crappy piece of oversized ammo built to NATO specs..." as the owner explained to me: it was measured with electronic calipers and meets every dimension specified by SAAMI: it is being retained as evidence. (Cellphone videos, now copyrighted, of all conversations were made and will likely appear on You Tube.) The 45 Auto ammunition in question meets USPSA's Certified Match Ammunition Program standards. The pistol has been owned for two years, made five round trips to the manufacturer, and I haven't been Able to fire it once. I'm trying to resolve a technical issue: it's been turned into a personal issue by others involved, but fortunately, I don't care. I had Finks work on my Stainless Steel Colt .45. The slide required some machining for the new sight to be installed. After years of being refused by other gunsmiths, they were the first to say they could do the work on Stainless Steel. Dave also milled a slide on another pistol and installed a Holosun optics.
