I travel to Rochester often,and my usual stop for coffee is Tim Horton's at the travel plaza east of Canandaigua. I decided I wanted instead to give my money to a local business and have a more interesting coffee experience this morning. So, I went off the Thruway 15 minutes out of my way to try FLCR. As a resident of the Finger Lakes, I'd had their coffee before but it never really made an impression.. So, I was looking forward to the experience. I walked in and there is country music blasting... Not a hipster vibe.:) There was a crowd of old-timers in a corner having their morning klatch, which was great. I love an inviting neighborhood coffee shop, even though this is in a strip mall. I could read the sign that lists roasts available today but the names don't say much about the product, so I asked the counter person what they have available, hoping it'd be obvious that I'm not familiar with their product. She answered by stepping aside so I could read the signs on the coffee pumps. Great! I asked what their lighter blend is. She replied "Lake Blend". So I ordered that. it wasn't until I got myself back on the Thruway that I took my first sip. I have never had a weaker cup of coffee outside of a diner or a hospital situation. Even (especially) a light blend, when brewed properly, should have a flavorful profile and provide a full coffee experience. That should be the expectation at a coffee roaster, right? If I had taken a sip before I pulled out, I think I would've brought it back and requested another flavor. The service was quite impersonal and businesslike and it was obvious the counter person wasn't really clued in. Do ya even drink this stuff? The one saving grace was the medium 16oz cup only cost $1.95. I might have paid twice that for a really good cup, though. I had hoped to add a scone or muffin to my coffee order but the selection was limited, didn't look appetizing, wrapped in plastic film--never a good sign. I will say that the experience is particularly disappointing to me especially because they do roast and wholesale coffee. Why bother roasting when the coffee is made so weak so that the flavor is imperceptible? read more

Honestly, I forgot how much I love Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters. Man, they serve some great coffee and I obsess over the Big Train Spiced Chai. You are hit with the bold mix of coffee beans, which line the right wall of the store. It's the Jamaican Me Crazy that gets me every time - notes of cinnamon, rum and pecan. This location has a quaint little seating area - great spot for getting out of the house to work for the afternoon or have a coffee date with your mom (that's what I did). You'll also find yourself tempted by the display of pastries next to the counter. I gave in and ordered one of the cow cookies - sugar cookie with a light vanilla frosting - oh so delectable. This review is for the coffee beans only. I cannot even think of the right adjective that would encompass the experience of drinking a cup of Finger Lakes Coffee. It is euphoria. The perfect cup. Jamaican Me Crazy was my first exposure to this brand, and since then I have tried several other flavors like Bananas Foster, Caramal Nut, Nutcracker, Bahama Mama, Snickerdoodle, German Chocolate Cake and some others. I don't think I have been disappointed, but I will say none match up to Jamaican Me Crazy. I now buy my beans whole from this shop, only a week out, and grind them fresh each day and brew with a french press one cup at a time. The flavor is euphoric. The price is also right. I can get about $10-12 worth of beans that will last me about 2 weeks...I only drink about a cup per day though. This is much better than the almost $4 a day I would spend at the local coffee shop to get my Jamaican fix. Side note, and buyers beware: I did purchase a bag from Pittsford Wegmans thinking how convenient, only to be let down. The flavor was not the same. I contacted Finger Lakes, they told me it was because the beans sold in Wegmans are organic, so beware!!! Flavor is different! But, they told me to bring the bag I bought in to the store and they would exchange it. Overall, local, fresh, coffee...can't go wrong. read more

Mediocre coffee for high prices, zero atmosphere. Bought a coffee 5 minutes before closing time, girl working there kicked me off the outside tables while I tried to enjoy aforementioned mediocre coffee. I wasn't there for more than 5 minutes before she did this. Bottom line: don't be open for business if you don't plan on letting your customers enjoy your product at your establishment in a timely manner. Outrageous. Will never return read more

Coffee is high quality and they know how to make milk drinks pretty well. Baked goods are also tasty. A great coffee pit stop if you are driving through. read more

I've been coming here for years and it has always been a staple for us anytime we visit the area. The coffee selection is vast either with purchased in bean form or brewed coffee to fill your traveler mug. The service is usual great. I've had lattes, iced and tons of hot coffee. I've had a ton the bean coffee and brewed it at home as well. The white knight is my favorite espresso based drink and the Jamaican-me crazy for coffee. Come visit this place when you need a caffeine fix or cozy place to warm up in winter. read more

The bottom line is that the ppl making the drinks weren't very good at it. Two ppl behind the counter with no other customers and it took ab 30 seconds before they acknowledged my person. The girl proceeded to cut me off from speaking three times, man-handle the tea bag for my friend's green tea (hands all over it), and seem totally disinterested in doing her job. For the price and lack of experience, you might as well go to Starbucks. read more

I'm a huge fan of independent coffee shops so I had to stop in while I was in town. Cool aesthetic, awesome photography displayed in the shop. A ton of coffee choices to take home. I got an iced mocha and it was very good. Will definitely return on my next trip to Rochester. read more

I can only speak for the roasted beans...I have not had any food or beverage here. The cafe itself is a nice space, the staff is great too. I like a really strong (but not bitter) bold roast which I have not found here yet...although I haven't tried all...but all in all I think this is a very solid roaster. read more

This is the best coffee I have ever had. I was first introduced to this company when I worked for a small local coffee shop in Buffalo and we only served this brand. The most popular flavor that we served everyday was Jamaican Me Crazy. I got hooked - and I order this by the 5lb bag (15 lbs at a time!) constantly. It's the only coffee I drink. I gave some to my brother and sister in law and THEY like it so much that THEY order it - all the way down on Long Island! When I call, they know me, they remember my order. They are the BEST in terms of service and quality. I absolutely love them. I haven't ordered in a while because I'm pregnant and had to cut out coffee (disagrees with my stomach now) but I am counting the days till I can go back!!! I miss it! read more

I am no coffee aficionado but this place has some great coffee. I like the variety of blends and everyone that works here has a very pleasant and happy demeanor. I also love the leather couches and wifi. It tends to be relatively quiet during the day so its a great place to get some work done. It doesn't have tons of seating but good enough and you will likely find a seat. read more

I've been to this place only once so I can't say that I have a comprehensive exposure. However this one time I ordered an espresso and latte. Both tasted just barely ok. I roast coffee at home and frequent hipster coffee joints and can tell between a good and a bad espresso. The beans here seem to be over-roasted, and over-brewed. The espresso tasted a bit burnt and not much different from your mediocre starbucks espresso. I had much higher expectations from this place due to them being their own roasters. The latte was just ok too. They didn't have options for whole milk in lattes. read more

Very good cup of coffee. They are always friendly and make good recommendations. The espresso is some of the best I have had in town. I wish they had more locations. Irondequoit or Webster would be great neither town has an independent coffee shop anymore. Whenever I go to Pittsford plaza I make sure I grab a cup. read more

Not impressive. Went in on a whim while Christmas shopping looking for a good cup of iced coffee. Perhaps simple isn't what they do but it was not good. They had no brewed ice coffee so they gave me regular hot coffee over ice. Ick. If they had asked i would have chosen something else. Nice atmosphere, good selection of beans. read more
