On march 8, 2014 we purchased a new firearm from fine firearms at the gun show in Del Mar. Normally I would not use this vendor as they are 50 miles from home. I have two dealers I have been using for many years. I have a substantial collection and am not new to the world of firearms. My friend who is new to firearms saw a weapon on display at the gun show. There was a nice young man working there and because of the way he treated us we went ahead and made the purchase. Two weeks later we drove out to pick up the new weapon. While the employee (a different person now) went over gun safety and handling with my friend I did take a quick look at the new weapon. Since this transaction was purchasing a new firearm, there is an expectation that it was in new and undamaged condition. After driving another 50 miles to get home ( at this point we have driven 100 miles) I went to field strip the weapon to clean it and found a 1/4 long crack in the slide. Due to being sick the following weekend we returned the weapon ( another 100 mile drive!) 2 weeks later. We waited 2 weeks and called Fine firearms and simply asked if they had an update on the status. The person on the phone was very rude and told us it will be at least 2 months before it comes back. And that Smith and Wesson was very slow at retuning warranty claims. This was Friday, 2 weeks after retuning it. Seriously? Well I called Smith and Wesson the following Monday, 2 weeks after returning it to Fine firearms and Smith and Wesson received it that day. Fine firearms never shipped it. They only shipped it because I called! Smith and Wesson sent me a scan of the shipping label showing the shipping date being the day I called for the status. Fine firearms let the weapon sit in their shop for 2 weeks and they only shipped it because I called! Today is now May 31 and we went to finally pick up a new firearm from fine firearms, 3 months after paying for it. I needed some supplies and did NOT purchase them while I was there. Instead I went to another store. I refuse to patronize a dealer that tries to pull the wool over your eyes. No one is perfect, but not being honest has destroyed any creditably with me. Today was another 100 mile drive, so we are at 300 miles and 3 months from when they took our money to finally picking up what we had paid for. Not one apology, or one iota of care, or concern was afforded to us by this dealer. I will never return and this has been by far the worst experience ever. read more

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. F this place. Seriously. I live literally a block away and will drive anywhere else to give my business too. Why the 1 star review? 3 times I brought a firearm in to do a PPT and 3 times they refused to do the transfer. Two of the times there were customers being helped so I understand if I had to wait but they told me that they would not even do the PPT even after the other customers were finished being helped. The last time I brought one for a PPT in the store was empty and 2 hours from closing and still no dice getting the PPT done. The firearms in question were run of the mill too and we had all of the necessary paperwork and identification needed for both buyer and seller. I get that shops don't make a lot of money on PPTs and they take up valuable time selling items to other customers but it is their duty to perform these so gun owners can stay within the law. Usually people tend to buy accessories and ammo when they do pick up the gun after the 10 day wait so it should even out in the long run for them. Fine Firearms is anything but "Fine." read more

Owner of Fine Firearms was rude and confrontational clearing up a consignment deal. Once he agreed that he was responsible for items he had, the paperwork and delivery of our gun was a nightmare. His staff didn't complete the paperwork correctly causing 30 delay. After that Another 30 day delay after giving us the wrong pick up information. When our firearm was handed back to us, it had been scavenged for the grips and magazine. They had been taken off and replaced with cracked plastic parts. Not Cool. read more

They were absolutely great through out the entire process from reviewing my requirements, making suggestions and then the entire setup. I've done business with this place on several occasions. I've purchased guns from them, as well as consigned guns with them. They are friendly and genuine. If you don't want to be bothered, just want to look, they are great about it. If you want to check something out, just ask. They talked me through the purchase process the whole way. It is the first time I actually felt comfortable about filling out all the forms and such. Buying a firearm can be intimidating, but they make it easier. Over the past 18 months I have purchased well over 10,000 dollars worth of firearms, ammo, and accessories from this place. Being from east county, I TRY and support my local stores until I am given a reason not to. Overall I was satisfied with previous experiences, until it came time to paint a muzzle brake for my 1700 dollar rifle I purchased off them. I was strung along for several months regarding performing a 10 minute paint job on another $2,000 bulk purchase I made from them. I wasted several hours going to the store on my days off to check the status of it, and was continually told it'll just take a few more days. I guess I will just pay another gunsmith to do it, as they have a two day turn around time and won't lie to my face about it. I hate to say it, but my next 10,000 dollars worth of gun purchases will be made elsewhere. They are very knowledgeable and have a great selection, but I have more respect for myself and won't let small businesses dick me around after giving them so much of my money.. read more

I had been in a few times over the last few weeks to determine which optics and accessories to purchase for a rifle. The team at the store can be quite busy helping other guests. When it came time to help me, the team devoted 100% of their attention to me. So it goes without saying that if they are busy when they walk in, they might not be able to help you immediately. But when they do help you, you definitely feel like you're the only one in the store. During my visits, the team walked me through the different options and discussed the utility and application of each of the items I was thinking of purchasing. It is clear that they place my satisfaction with their expertise and products before the quick sale. Today I finally came in to purchase everything. (They will mount your optics after you purchase.) I was told they wouldn't be done mounting optics until Wednesday (purchase date was Saturday early AM). After pleading my case I was told "We'll see what we can do." Anybody that has heard that before knows it means nothing... However later today, I received a call telling me they had finished and it was ready for pick up. That is the epitome of great customer service. I highly recommend you check this place out. You may have to wait some time to talk to someone but when you do, you receive expert service and all their attention. The reason it takes a long time is because the people that work there are taking their time to explain everything that needs to be explained to the customer about their new firearm. This is an UPDATE: Had an initial negative experience two weeks ago when I bought my new 1911. See my other review. Today, was pick up, and I was able to talk with the Chase, the manager, and he turned me around on this place. He was friendly, and he generously hooked me up with an old case they had sitting around in back, when my new 1911 wouldn't fit into its case after modifications. They expressed interest in how the firearm worked out, and asked me to check in and let them know how it shoots. I thought this was pretty cool. The two gentleman I did business with today were very professional and I felt like they actually cared about my business. The store seems hit or miss depending on who is working. I will use this gun store again, knowing what I have learned, I can make it work. read more

I've shopped at Fine Firearms for years... mainly for ammo or parts. I recently purchased two firearms from them. Easy process (as easy as California will allow) and picking them up was easy as well. I took both guns out to the range and one of them didn't fire. I contacted the shop and they were attentive to the problem. I brought it back to them and it was a quick and easy fix... they took care of everything and even gave me a shirt for having to make an extra trip. Its not just one bad experience with one person, multiple employees don't give a F, one guy looked at me and i thought "finally" and then he said "hey I'm going to lunch" to the other guy and left lol Ive been here 3 separate times over the past couple of years and every time these guys step up the crap level, if someone asks me about going here to buy "anything" which they do since i love shooting and 1/3 of the stuff i talk about is guns, im going to tell them what a piece this place is. Its honestly just annoying, I've bought multiple weapons since living in SD and every time i attempt to give these "people" business they F it up. You would think that over pricing pretty much all of your weapons "i didn't see everything but what i did, wtf" you would be nicer and at the very least practice basic customer service, its really sad that some of the gun shops in the area have gone out of business while this crap hole is still here. Whoever offers up these five star reviews has to be an employee because they basically sell you on how "great" the store and "employees" are, which anyone who goes in here will instantly know is BS. Normally i would say first hand experience is best in all situations but i don't want anyone to even enter the doors of this heap to just be let down. Bought my first handgun here from Nick and it was a very pleasurable experience. I'm one of the most detailed people around and tend to learn by asking questions and digging deeper into things I'm not such an expert on. In the 1.5 hours I spent with Nick in purchasing my first gun after his expert customer service, I learned a TON! I walked out purchasing my first gun on my first visit to the store (that says a lot because I sometimes take convincing and days to 'sleep on it' to make a move on a $500+ purchase).
