New Years Day after hanging around the house with a bit of a hangover we decided we needed some old school, Italian comfort food. Yeah, we could have ordered delivery, but I wanted to get out of the house, go some place a little more upscale than a pizzeria and I was also craving some eggplant parmigiana (or rollatini) so from the reviews Filomena's looked like it would hit the spot - it did for the most part. I made an unnecessary reservation for a 6pm dinner with the place half filled mostly with families or larger groups - not many 2 seat tables here. The vibe in this Tuscan/Italian decor space was warm and inviting - it seems many of the diners are regulars. We order drinks and we are brought a fresh bread basket and complimentary hot appetizer of fried cheese, zucchini and potato croquette with a marinara dipping sauce. All very good, especially liked the zucchini. Also having baked clams on my mind we get an order - it took a little while to get but our waitress noticed the delay. They were excellent - with the lemony, garlic and breadcrumb was a perfect dipping sauce for the crusty bread. Our mains arrive shortly after - the shrimp fra diavolo was well made with a smooth, spicy sauce and nice sized shrimp. The spaghetti that accompanied this was perfect al dente and really enjoyable - my wife raved about it. The eggplant rollatini was slightly disappointing being a little loose and bland, but the eggplant was very tender and had good flavor. It was lightly breaded and actually tasted better as it cooled and came together a bit. The broccoli rabe side I got with this was fantastic cooked in olive oil and chunks of sweet garlic - tender, slightly bitter and great flavor. Ending our meal with a generous slice of Italian cheesecake - it seemed more like a mix of typical cheesecake and Italian. It was lighter, but I got the sharpness of the cream cheese over the ricotta in the Italian cheesecake. Service here was extremely attentive and top notch - always filling water glasses, clearing plates quickly and making sure we had all we need. The only miss is that we weren't offered to be told the specials as we overheard them given to another table, which was disappointing because we would have ordered the grilled octopus if we had known. Although I don't go to Italian restaurants often this would be on top of my list - attentive service, attention to detail with the delicious food and reasonable prices. Everyone. Filomena's is A HIT. Italian restaurants cannot compare to the level of flavor that Filomena's includes in their food. You've got to make you way here to try their seafood pasta and the chocolate mousse cake is WOAH. Waitstaff and busboys are SUPER attentive and on point with making sure the tables are cleaned and drinks are always replenished. The decor is lovely and clean with a nice comfortable lighting and ambiance. Most def will be back to try out everything else this restaurant has to offer. 4.5 stars Came here for my one of my best friend's baby shower this past weekend. The space was decent for our party and we had 2-3 long tables arranged in a "T" shape. For our space, there was a sliding panel to reduce the noise from other parties as well. The staff was very professional and polite with our requests. The food was really good and filling. We shared the appetizers family style and I remember eating the potato croquettes, fried zucchini, and eggplant rollatini (so tasty and addictive!). I didn't get to try the fried calamari since it was at the other side of the table. We were able to pick one of the two pasta dishes: penne alla vodka or rigatoni filetto di pomodoro. Then, we were also were able to pick one of the five entree dishes: veal marsala, chicken parmesan, chicken francese, salmon, or tilapia. I opted for the rigatoni and the tilapia. I enjoyed my dishes and the tilapia was slightly salty to my preference. We also got a side dish of string beans which was delicious as well. Called for information regarding a private party- workers/manager was incredibly rude! Rushed me off the phone & said that it wasn't "worth their time" to talk to me about the party. Wow. Where to start. How i have never wrote a review for this business is silly. I have been coming to Filomena's since i was a small kid in the 1990's. It's a wonderful family run restaurant with the name sake Filomena still cooking up in the back. I have had many parties with my family here from birthdays, showers, retirements and after funeral events here. The staff and owners treat you like family. I was here most recently in 5/27/22 with some friends. The staff Nick was attentive and gave us the specials. I love everything from the break, mozzarella sticks, fried Zucchini. This time i had the sticks, and gnocchi. I love bringing my daughter here. Can't go wrong with coming here. I didn't take an pictures because i was too busy eating it all!!!!! read more

Probably 3 1/2 but I don't want to push it. A nice place, but in my experience, not deserving of some of the extreme raves I've read here. Definitely AOK but I am a much bigger fan of other local Italian family restaurants. We were famished after spending a long grueling afternoon at Nissan to terminate a lease and start a new one, and we also wanted to celebrate a bit without total budget busting. Pleasantly surprised when a little complimentary plate of potato croquettes & fried zucchini was presented along with a bread basket. They were good but would have been so much better with some Parmesan cheese. They were all eaten before I had the chance to ask for any. Warm Italian bread and two pieces of ciabatta accompanied with butter pats rather than olive oil. Perhaps this helps them keep the menu prices down. It was all enough to take the edge off without needing to order an appetizer. Entrees were chicken parmigiana with a side of spaghetti, and chicken marsala with a side of broccoli al olio. As soon as I saw that broccoli I was jealous and coerced Richard into letting me try it. The things we do for Yelp! Totally on point. They have nailed the sauteed vegetable prep, and if I return will definitely be going for the broccoli rabe. The chicken dishes: very good, but the sauce (especially the red) was way too thin. I was prepared for this after seeing the sauce that came with the fried zucchini. I mean, thin as in a tomato soup kind of consistency. That was a big disappoinment and certainly disqualifies Filomena's from being in the running for "the best Italian restaurant on Long Island" are you kidding me? The portions: huge. Two meals worth, easily (and remember, we were starving). Also, it should be noted that overall the prices all seemed a couple of bucks less than at similar fine/casual Italian places in the area. So they are five stars on value, for sure. Service was warm and friendly, though we weren't checked on until we were well into our meals. The menu is not very extensive; Yes there are definitely some solid choices, but you will not find "every" classic Italian dish here: no piccata, no Francese, no Milanese. No sausage! Half the seafood offerings are shrimp. I'm sure everything they have is tasty, but just so you know. This is not the place I would take an out of town friend. So: with the exception of the disappointing red sauce, food was tasty and very generous for the price. AOK. We would return. read more

This place is terrific! Was invited to a first bday party and the food was so perfect ! The quantity was over abundant and the service by the staff was top shelf. This is a great establishment! From the appetizers of baked clams, fried zucchini, anti pasta dish with fresh mozzarella and sharp provolone, the eggplant rolentini and pizza. Lots to choose from for the main course I had the bronzino which was prepared perfectly even the sides of string beans where perfectly done. My kids enjoyed the penne alvodka and chicken fingers and fries. Over all a hit. Wish I did not live so far as if I did I would be at this place often. Really wanted to love this place but it smelled like someone had been smoking in the restaurant. Waitstaff was excellent, food was served quickly and the energy was great. Amazing Friday lunch. The eggplant rollatini was exceptional. Sliced thick enough and the ricotta was fresh and plentiful. The filet of sole oreganato was amazing. The baby lamb chop special was so tender with so much flavor. Broccoli rabe must have had some butter in it because butter makes everything better. The handmade spaghetti with mushrooms and shrimp was so delicate and light. Do not miss the not too sweet desserts of their homemade tiramisu and cannoli. Simply fantastic. The sauce, the pasta, the apps, the entrees, the WHOLE menu is great. My family background is Italian, and I grew up in an Italian neighborhood, so I'm really picky when it comes to Italian food, but.... even a "mangia snob" like me loved this place. The place has been family run for decades, with Filomena herself still hard at work on a daily basis, and the experience and care shows, big time. Plus, these are truly good, kind people. My family tried to book a reservation for a group after a funeral, but the restaurant was closed on Mondays. But guess what? They opened. Just for us. And when we got there, it was Filomena and the family, hard at work, on what otherwise would have been their sole day off that week.
