I was surprised at the vast selections of Japanese and Latin inspired stuff! They also have smoothies, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages! Almost every night, they have events from live music, trivia nights to movie nights. I love the Tokyo Omelete (taste and presentation), Chicken don (flavor),, Taco (filling and huge) and the Lychee Peachy (refreshing). Details of what we had: Tokyo Omelette Roasted Seaweed, Cheddar Cheese, Grilled Mushroom, Sun Dried Tomato, Grilled Onion, served with Japanese Onigiri (Multigrain Purple Rice Ball) & Miso Soup Captain Croissant Toasted Butter, Smoked Salmon, Avocado, Red Onion, Cucumber Slices. Mayo and Arugula, Coleslaw House Special Teriyaki Chicken Don House Special Teriyaki Chicken, served with Multigrain Purple Rice, Miso Soup Fish Taco (2 pieces) Crispy tilapia, guac, coleslaw, spicy mayo and lime Mango Lemonade Lychee Peachy

My cousin and I visited this cafe and fell in love with their drinks! This place is cozy with friendly staff and offers a diverse menu. Although, we only tried the drinks and a bagel, I will definitely go back one day to try the tacos and other dishes. Their pastries looked very fresh too! Located in the Kensington Market area.

Film Cafe is a casual spot in the middle of busy Kensington. It hits all the right notes with an eclectic mix of Japanese, breakfast, tacos, and Sandwhiches. The mojito was well made and a good size. Perfect for relaxing in the heat or on the patio. The japanese poutine was amazing. Big in size and popular all around. It puts an interesting spin on a classic. The chicken and fish tacos were also authentic, tasty and popular. To cool off the smoothies were also a nice touch and fairly large in size. If you find yourself in Kensington, consider hitting this place up.

takoyaki, chicken tacos, veggie gyoza

The food menu here is deceivingly small but the drinks menu is quite extensive. 3-7pm is happy hour and you can get $8.50 drinks! They have all day breakfast which is interesting, as well as sandwiches and bagels, but also a small latin/spanish menu and a small japanese inspired menu. It's an interesting concept but the execution didn't wow me. We got the takoyaki, veggie gyoza, and chicken tacos for food, and the marshmallow hot chocolate, strawberry brownie shake, and the berry smoothie for drinks. The strawberry brownie shake was quite sweet but didn't feel artificial, and you could tell there was actual fruit in it which was nice! It felt more like a chocolate strawberry smoothie than a shake. I enjoyed it. My friends liked their drinks as well. The takoyaki was very creamy inside with a few small bits of octopus. The gyoza tasted not homemade and was probably frozen but the sauce had a good kick. Food overall felt very average but it's probably best for drinks anyway since it's a cafe. Although they do have lots of cocktail options! Service was quick and efficient and seating inside is pretty ample. It's a very casual spot, probably not a good place for a sit down dinner. More of a quick bite/snacks and drinks type place. There were people on their laptops even around 6:30pm, so it'd probably also be a good place to work remotely while sipping on one of their many interesting lattes.

-Came here in 2022 while on your from nyc and forgot to post this review. -Walked by this cafe and thought it looked cute so stopped in for a bite. -The omelette was really solid and for a good price. -Miso soup was just ok. -I thought onigiri usually has filling, but it was just rice and purple rice so that was a little disappointing, but I think that's on me for assuming -Service was great. They answered all my questions and were attentive.

The café is rather small, so you need to reserve if you're going in groups. They offer all day breakfast and also have live music on Thursday and Friday nights. They support young musicians which is amazing. Their menu has Japanese fusion option and also vegetarian/vegan options. Also good variety of cocktails, hot cocktails, milkshakes and smoothies. They also offer cakes and cookies, which you need to ask staff about them cause they're not listed on the menu. We ordered "Japanese Poutine", "Teriyaki Chicken Don", "Tiramisu", "Hot Mojito" and "Avocado Banana Smoothie". We wanted to try some cake after our meal, but we were so full that we need to go back to try some. Lol

Kensington market /Augusta street has a lot of food. There's so many options. This coffee spot is a nice place to just sit back and unwind. They have an upstairs seating area and you can order downstairs. The coffee was good but a little bit too sweet but pastries are good. Busy and great service

This is one of my favourite places for drinks in Kensington market! I've tried a few of their drinks so far, with the latest one being the Pink Sakura Latte. Their drinks are well priced and the service is fast and efficient! Above all, I like the ambiance within the cafe, it's a great cozy spot to hang out with friends :)

tokyo omelette was decent nothing too special. lil pricey for a brunch (was cheaper when i went since tax break)

"Market poutine" with Japanese curry

I'm Japanese and this is a *very* interesting cafe and restaurant! The coconut butter coffee (which I asked to be less sweet) was *amazing*, reminiscent of what the Japanese would call purin (crème caramel, basically) without being sweet. The curry poutine was also quite innovative - replacing gravy with a creamier form of curry really worked out. The other ingredients (parmesan, bacon, and an egg) made for an odd combo with the curry, but I didn't mind it. It was a warm and calming space, that wasn't too crowded in the evening, and offered WiFi and outlets. The microphone in the middle suggested they hold special events as well? Excited to return and try more menu items.

Cool casual vibe with a solid menu. Breakfast/brunch food with some Latino/Asian fusion options for lunch. Awesome drink options, everything from specialty cocktails to unique lemonades and smoothies, as well as a variety of coffee and tea options. Service is good and fast!

Food was decent, not that amazing but not terrible. Took forever for the food to come but all the servers and staff were super nice. Got charged $2.50 for 1 slice of cheese so I was kind of disappointed by that. The fat in the prosciutto sandwich was so thick that I couldn't bite into it and had to remove it :(

5 star! I AM IN LOVE with this place. This is less than 10mins walk to where I work so I tend to go there most times for breakfast with my coworkers after a long night 12hr shift. What is not to love? Food: the food, beverages, and dessert presentations are... WOW!!! And they taste sooooo GOOD. I love the transparency; you can see when they are preparing your dish. Customer service: They are friendly and professional. The food gets serve so quickly. The place is warm, cozy, and clean. The bathroom is always clean. I mean I don't like using public bathroom, but I use theirs! I definitely recommend this place and almost everything on the menu. I still need to go back and get the gold ice cream, I heard it tastes good and expensive, but I'll get! :-D Bonus: Free WIFI!

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

What I really liked was that they had 3 options of warm water - Hot, Warm, and room temperature. Instinctively I knew this place cared about the clients digestive health. Though I'm sure if you asked for ice water, they would accommodate (my friend asked for no sauces in her maki roll). The fishes were plated very pretty and because it's sushi of course it tasted good. But I was surprised at the level of wasabi that was plated. Cleared up my sinuses for 30 seconds. The establishment is very clean and bright and a great place to head to if you're in a rush.

The space itself leans more modern and clean rather than the typical dark, cozy izakaya vibe, which I actually didn't mind. It felt comfortable, not too loud, and easy to settle into for a slow dinner. We ordered a mix of small plates to share, and everything came out looking nicely put together. The aburi-style salmon sushi was one of the highlights for me.. lightly seared, with a soft texture and just enough flavor on top without being overwhelming. The tuna tataki was also fresh and clean, simple but well done. Some of the fried dishes leaned a bit richer with the creamy sauces, but they were still enjoyable, especially if you're in the mood for something a little more indulgent. The beef fried rice was straightforward but satisfying, one of those dishes that's easy to keep going back to between everything else. Drinks were a nice touch too.. refreshing, nicely presented, and added to the overall experience. Overall, this feels like a solid spot for a casual night out with friends. It's not overly traditional, but it's easygoing, shareable, and comfortable.. the kind of place you'd come back to when you just want good food and a relaxed atmosphere.

The menu is set up to where you pick the entree and then what type of protein you want out of pork loin, chicken, fish, cheese, and sweet potato cheese. I settled on the sweet chili katsu. A piece of chicken arrived on a plate accompanied with rice and shredded cabbage. The chicken was breaded in a light panko like crumb and was half covered in the sweet chili sauce. I ate a couple of pieces and the crisp texture and flavor was wonderful. I had a bite of rice and when I got to the cabbage to my dismay I found a long piece of hair in it. I immediately lost my appetite and all I could think about was how great the two bites of chicken was. I gave up the plate and showed the staff what I found. They offered another plate a couple of times and after I declined a refund was issued. Katsuya. sucks for serving me one of the best pieces of breaded chicken in my life with hair in the food. I'm struggling to hold back the tears now as I write. I did get to try the parmesan fries which were ok. I also tasted the udon which is not one of their stronger dishes. This probably would have been five stars had it not been for the hair. I know this happens on the rare occasion but probably shouldn't if hair nets are worn. If you do try out this place, expect great katsuya.
