Michael Angelo's Pizza

The food options are pretty limited in Kenton, but this pizza place is pretty solid. We come here…read morewhen we're in town visiting my grandma. This time my husband and I got: - Chicken Ranchero Pizza (14" with Traditional Hand-Tossed Crust) - Italian American Pizza (12" with NY Style Crust) - Cheesy Breadstix The Chicken Ranchero was my preference between the two. I didn't pay close enough attention when ordering and didn't realize the Italian American didn't have sauce. It was good, but I think it would have been a lot better with a tomato sauce. The Cheesy Breadstix were cheesy as advertised and delicious. This continues to be my go to spot in Kenton.

Ask your server what the real prices are before you order. All the prices in the menu are wrong. I…read morediscovered this when I got my bill and saw I was charged more for all the calzones that we ordered than the price in the menu. When I brought this to their attention they acknowledged prices had changed but the menus aren't updated. When I pointed out the price in the menu is the advertised price the owner (through the waitress because he wouldn't face his customers directly) pointed to a statement on the front stating the prices may be different. This is false advertising. The food is really good and the waitress was awesome and she ultimately adjusted the bill (I hope she doesn't get in trouble for doing the right thing). We will not be returning because we don't support shady unethical and illegal practices that this establishment is engaging in.

The Sweet Note Cafe - 6 inch lemon cake with raspberry filling and buttercream frosting

The Sweet Note Cafe

While driving through Kenton on our way to Port Clinton, we asked ChatGPT for lunch recommendations…read moreand were directed to The Sweet Note Cafe, described as one of the best lunch spots in town, offering sandwiches, soups, and a cozy, homemade feel. It was even highlighted as the "best overall lunch vibe." Unfortunately, our experience did not align with that recommendation. Upon arrival, we initially weren't sure the café was open. When we entered, we were met with a somewhat surprised reception, as though our presence was unexpected (Uh, oh... people!!). After a brief moment, someone approached the register to take our order. We each ordered a soup and a half sandwich. Overall, the food was underwhelming. The Caprese sandwich consisted primarily of mozzarella and tomato, notably lacking basil. It was served with a balsamic reduction, which added some needed flavor. I ordered the beer cheese soup, which resembled a thin, Velveeta-style cheese base with carrots and was quite bland--I found myself adding a significant amount of salt. My wife had the loaded baked potato soup and described it as unremarkable as well. For two half sandwiches, two cups of soup, and two bottled sodas, the total came to approximately $30. In our view, the quality did not justify the price. We left still feeling unsatisfied and ended up stopping at Love's for snacks. It seems the café may be better known as a bakery or confectionery, although there was limited evidence of that during our visit. Overall, we would likely choose a different option the next time we pass through Kenton.

Not only did the cake taste amazing, but it was beautiful. I have eaten at her restaurant several times, and it's a cute vintage building in the square in Kenton. I love the aesthetic she went for in her decor and the food is to die for! Stop in the next time you're in town, you won't regret it!

Skinny's Tavern - Pork tenderloin and cheeseburger baskets

Skinny's Tavern

A drive from Port Clinton to the Dayton area is a bit of a schlep, so I had to find a good lunch…read morestop along the way, and appeal to my wife's love of a great hamburger. Skinny's exceeded expectations. Not only did they have an exceptional assortment of burgers (juicy and filling), but they also surprised us with a great pork tenderloin. PT's are a regional favorite in Illinois and Missouri, and pretty rare east of Indiana. They're known for looking like a flattened piece of fried chicken with a bun that barely covers half the meat. This had a great taste, and the breading was not overcooked as it is deeper into the Midwest. Ordered two pieces of pie to go (rhubarb and coconut cream). Unless you hear otherwise, I expect they'll be a standout given their size and appearance. Skinny's looks like a rough roadhouse from its exterior, but is a convivial family hangout inside. Our waitress was friendly and very efficient. A pro. The French fries were also exceptional, though the coleslaw was just average (little more vinegar, please). Maybe that makes this a 4.8, but the humorous wall signs brought it back up up to 5 ("Many have dined here. Few have died."). Lot of good menu items, but this was the real deal for a burger fix.

En Lai Chinese Restaurant - Cashew Chicken

I found the staff there to be very kind, attentive, and polite, but like many Chinese restaurants, not overly chatty. They were obviously busy, but took the time to be polite and explain menu items. When I was leaving, they made it a point to say goodbye, and thanked me for coming. I had the General TSO's chicken and wonton soup. The wontons in the wonton soup were very good. The soup broth itself was fine, but nothing to write home about. The General Tso's had a different flavor than I am used to when I ordered General Tso's. That is not to say it was bad! In fact, I rather enjoyed it! I would happily order it again. The chicken was not fatty or chewy, and the batter was nice and light and crispy. This was a good meal for a reasonable price! I was very pleased with my experience at En Lai
