So good! I happened in here after going to the music shop next door. Parking is a little tricky w construction on the side street but that should change in time.
A beautiful, large, open space, there's a brick oven open to the dining room. If you go to the baking window they'll serve you a complimentary, fresh from the oven piece of pita bread, puffed up, hot, and delicious. They don't tell you this but I saw others go up so I did. A very nice offering.
On to the main courses. All the things I had were delicious! There is a counter where you self order and pick up your food. They have plates of varying sizes where you choose from what they label "bites" which are items like spinach, pie, feta pie, stuffed grape leaves and other yummy things, plus salads and "dips." They have soup and salad as well as sandwiches that I'll get next time because I think those are freshly made and probably hotter.
The serving portions are huge! I could've eaten half of it and felt more than satisfied. But of course, I ate it all! Would love to have the food items behind the glass be served warmer.
I thought that this was just a coffee shop and they do have latte and a couple of other options, but I didn't try those today. I was there we in the afternoon so the pastry case was about empty. Some afternoon dessert items would be nice.
I will definitely return. I expect this cafe will gain a loyal following. It is entirely different than another local favorite, Aladdins.
This is a new place so some minor things I'd love to see improved:
1. Have some of the menus to have out for customers. A few laminated ones would work.
The line was fairly long when I was there and while glad to see that, it made it a longer wait. There is a chalkboard but is very difficult to read the many menu items and options.
With only one print copy at the register, that meant everyone had to stand there and figure out what they wanted to order once at the register. It's a small thing, but could really improve the flow of the line and help people know what to order.
We did love the open, glass surround area where you could see exactly what you were ordering.
2. Napkins, big dinner napkins should come on the tray. I found some at the side stand after the meal.
3. When you order what you get a little plastic cutlery packet and a tiny thin napkin.
The food is served on ceramic plates so plasticware seemed odd. And their plasticware was too small and not adequate + took away from the experience of feeling like I was in a nice casual restaurant. It made me feel like I was in a fast food place. But this is as nice a place! If it is not an option for them to have metal cutlery then have adult size nice heavier weight plasticware. I would rather not see more plastic going into the environment but I know it maybe a necessity.
4. The music was nice but much too loud. Maybe a standard setting would help. It made us eager to leave where I might have ordered a coffee or a sweet but we left for a quieter coffee shop. Too loud to think or converse.
5. Loved that they had free, infused water dispensers however, they were almost empty throughout our visit.
All in all:
It is a lovely, tasty, and affordable option to add to Lakewood's many sasual restaurants. When we left, there was a long line and when arriving the same, so I think they're going to do very well and I will definitely be back for more.
