Breakfast in Hong Kong…read more.. On the way to the ferry, my friend and I stopped by this McCafe for a quick snack. We were on our way to dimsum and we just wanted fuel to get ourselves going... The interior is modern and bright. Customers leave their trays and trash on the tables for the staff to clean. The confusion is that the Cafe items are served from the Cafe side while the coffee, orange juice, and regular McDonald's items are served from the McDonald's counter even though we ordered from the Cafe counter. No worries. We figured it out! We shared the Corn & Cheesy Mushroom Toast. It was good enough to fill our tummies for now. On our second visit, we had the local dish, Macaroni soup. I had mine with ham and my friend had hers with sausage. It was plain, simple, and comforting. I want to return for the cute bunny dessert and the Mango drink which is served after 11am from the Cafe side. We'll be back - especially for the air conditioning! Onto more foodie adventures!!!

Add some big projectors showing the latest sports and there's little more I can ask for. I think the reason why I don't eat here often enough is because most of my family and friends prefer one of the other cuisines around DDeck, I can't blame them. However, whenever my vote counts for anything it's usually to here. When I don't know what to order I go for their burger and mozzarella sticks, in fact no matter what I go for something and their mozzarella sticks. The burgers are good, big filling and with a generous side of chips, the sticks fantastic. Generally, though, I'll order something from the Indian section, a madras chicken curry and some garlic naan. I'll try to convince some one else to order a plate of chicken tandoori so I can take a bit of that as well. Sometimes I wish I had a bigger stomach so that I could have the tandoori and the curry... and the naan. The food is full of flavor, the portions big, and the service relatively quick.I can tell you how good it is but I think the best way is to go for yourself and try it. It gets busy on the weekends because there's always one sport or another showing; football, rugby, motor sports, and the crowd can get a little rowdy, but don't let the outdoor hooligans intimidate you because inside it's normally much more tranquil. On a non-sports night its a great place to sit outside and enjoy a peaceful, quiet, group dinner. Remember... get the mozzarella sticks.

A solid burger place in Kennedy Town…read more The menu says "Taste of Leisure" and that's certainly the vibe here. The environment is more of a hipster bar than a restaurant with about 2 dozen craft beers, high table seating, exposed brick wall, billiard table, electronic darts arcade, and chill music playing overhead. The burger is a bit of a cross between a gourmet and bar style burger. Simple handmade patty, but presented well in a mess-containing wooden tray. I usually go with a standard cheeseburger to truly assess a new burger joint, but opted for the Handmade US Angus Beer and Mushroom Burger ($88) with American cheese and sautéed mushrooms and onions. The burger was cooked medium by default (without being asked) and juices started dripping out when I went for my first bite. The meat was flavorful and the American cheese reminded me of my childhood. The bun was slightly over toasted that made it less malleable around the burger, but it just made it a little messier. The bun also had a slight sweetness that surprisingly accompanied the burger well. The best bet for a burger in Kennedy Town (as of current), I'll be back for the same burger and also try some of the other non-beef burger options as well as starters and snacks.

The menu was also incredibly similar, and we were then told that they share a kitchen. I wanted the fries on the Grand Salon menu, but other food on the Walt's Cafe menu so we asked if we could do that. They went to their manager to ask and she reluctantly allowed us to do that. Major regrets because the food was incredibly mediocre. This was dinner. I ordered french onion soup (meh), fries (good), and the salmon dish (absolutely terrible). The salmon was supposed to be grilled and the scallops were supposed to be seared, but it all just tasted flavorless and cold. The next morning we were desperate for breakfast, so we willingly came back to Walt's Cafe. Dumb of us, I know. Luckily, the breakfast was much better, compared to the dinner the night prior. Still expensive and small portioned, but tasty enough for the convenience. Out of convenience, I would come back for the breakfast, but not the dinner menu.

My SIL insisted I try the restaurant. So glad I did. Love the decor with such an Urban feel. Bikes, tires, and road signs. Clean and modern throughout. I was captivated by their desserts. From the syringe injecting into a Bloody Berry cake to these color dusted cakes with various flavors. Wow, can we say croissant galore. How can you turn down a chocolate dipped croissant or one that is something called creme brulee? Okay, onto their real food. The slow roasted chicken came highly recommended as was the fish and chips. I also wanted to try the gwei miu salmon with a watercress risotto. They also needed to add they garnish the salmon dish with baby arugula. Hello! No need to say more. Sold! The chicken was juicy (brinded almost), full of flavor. The fish and chips had an amazing color on the fry, awesome beer battered flavored, and chunks of fish with every bite. It was over like an olive tapinade tartar sauce, which I couldn't get enough of. The risotto was perfectly cooked, which is hard to do. It was loaded with butter and cheese. Aside from its green color, it was hard to tell it was watercress. The salmon was also perfectly cooked and juicy. My only regret was that I ate too much and didn't save room for their desserts. Next time, for sure. Definitely be back and will be taking the Hubs here when he returns.
