I came to dinner here two days ago and it was good. My family liked it. I don't think it's anything to write home about but they were big fans of the focaccia bread and My Husband really liked his chicken Saltimbucca I had gluten free pasta and it was OK. It lacked a little bit of flavor but not terrible. The only reason why I've taken one star off was for the value of the price. I thought the entrées would come with some more sides, but otherwise everything else is great and will hopefully return sometime soon. read more

We had a reservation for five, but when we arrived the staff seemed confused and unprepared for us. The food itself was good--definitely on the pricier side, but enjoyable. Unfortunately, the service was extremely disappointing and really overshadowed the meal. No one took our drink order, and when I flagged someone down, he seemed annoyed, flipped through his notepad, said he needed to get a pen, and never came back. From that point on, no one checked on our table for the rest of the meal. Overall, the lack of service made for a frustrating experience despite the decent food. read more

Firstly they made it seem like a child friendly restaurant but I feel like it just wasn't they had high chairs but no kids menu printed and the staff wasn't particularly kid friendly. Secondly, the staff in general were barely friendly at all. There was one guy who seemed nice but we only saw him for specials and never again the other staff members made it seem like we were bothering them to be there. The busser kept pulling out plates while we were eating and grabbing things we still needed and we had to get her back. The waitress kept disappearing and we couldn't find her. They had a big party in the other room but if you don't have enough staff to cover a big party and the main dining room then don't do both. Lastly, the food was insanely overpriced for 3 people and a kid AND it's BYOB it was nearly $300 something as simple as eggplant parm was over $30 that's an insane markup and it came with subpar pasta. My husband got grilled chicken over pasta and that was around $36 you could get the same at a pizzeria for $18. He also said his pasta wasn't good and was feeling sick all night. Ordered takeout on a Friday night, and it was ready within 25 minutes of ordering. We got a pizza and the Fox Dip sandwich. I was pleasantly surprised by the pizza because the sauce was delicious and tasted very fresh. However, we were disappointed with the sandwich. It looked nothing like the photo on the website. There was one thin slice of jarlsburg and very little meat, which was sad to see. I'll give it another chance and try their food again, hoping this sandwich was just a one off. read more

We had a delightful experience top to bottom! The service was excellent and attentive. Our waitress Ava had a smile on her face the whole time. Ambiance was quaint and pretty, only suggestion would be to plat Italian music. Food was superb, we started with a generous portion of fried calamari accompanied by a delicious marinara sauce. We came here for Mother's Day for lunch and had an amazing meal! They went all out with decorations, balloons, and signs and really made it feel special. Well, this place took a dive! I've been here several times over the past four years and last night was the worst and last time. I ordered the Milano, which is a grilled chicken with mushrooms and bacon with a marsala sauce. It came with pasta. First off, this was served to me in a bowl. I don't know how they expect me to cut chicken with a regular knife when the chicken is over pasta in a bowl. The chicken was dry and there was so much bacon in here. Under rendered bacon! Soggy mess. I don't even know how they can call this a dish, especially at these ridiculous prices. Also, the server never came to check up on us. Not sure who's running this business anymore, but with this type of service and food, I don't see them lasting another year. Sad. read more

I have dined at Fig and Tomato a few times now, both indoors and outdoors, and I have had a great experience every time. I can easily say that the calamari rosario is my favorite dish. I would gladly eat it as my main course! The added tomato and spices elevate the usual fried calamari. Other great meals I have enjoyed over the last couple years have included a stuffed pepper special, a summer watermelon and feta salad, and the veal amalfi. I have yet to be served something from Fig & Tomato that I did not like! Take note that this restaurant is BYOB and plan accordingly. Also the parking is a bit more restricted when the weather is nice as they will put out outdoor tables. read more

Came by for my birthday dinner on a Thursday with a 6 PM reservation. I guess it was still early because there wasn't anyone dining there at the time. They also have a pizzeria side so if you're looking for the restaurant, you just go around the corner. To start, they bring out some fresh, warm focaccia, served with some pesto. It was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. I really had to stop myself from eating it all so I could save room for the things we ordered. We had: Fig & Tomato (fresh fig, tomato, goat cheese, lemon honey, tuscan bread) - we figured we should order this since it is the name of the restaurant after all. I probably would have preferred something other than goat cheese - perhaps burrata? But overall, it was a nice appetizers. The figs were ripe and sweet. Mushroom Arancini (mushroom, spinach, mozzarella) - could have used more filling, especially the mushroom. But the gravy it came with helped. If you don't want gravy, be sure to ask for it on the side because the rice balls come served in it. Bari (jumbo shrimp, spinach, mushrooms, pink vodka sauce, rigatoni) - while probably not too "authentic", this pasta was still enjoyable. I am a sucked for vodka sauce, and this had it all - protein and veggies. The shrimp was perfectly cooked. The Sinatra (cherry peppers, italian sausage, fresh mozzarella, olive oil) - I liked the crumbled sausage. They give you a lot of toppings and it's pretty evenly distributed, which I appreciate. Overall, it was a good meal, and we had some leftovers for the next day. It's a bit out of the way for us so I'm not sure if we'd come back but I'm still glad we got to celebrate my birthday here. This place is tucked away in an unsuspecting area in Hillsdale but the people who knew the food was good packed the restaurant to the brim on a Saturday night. The wait staff was lovely but very busy causing some delays in our asks. Portions of the food were huge for the price and good so you can see why it was so packed. My family got a ton of appetizers to share, the calamari, eggplant rollatini, fig and tomato and the charcuterie board. All were delicious but the eggplant took the cake for the best one. The calamari was a second with the calamari pieces being large and crispy. I personally liked the fig and tomato but I am not sure the tomato was the best since they are out of season so it lacked a bit of flavor and I wish the bread was toasted, but the sweetness of the fig and honey was nice. The charcuterie board was huge and was more than enough for 5 people. However, I am not sure how fresh the meats were and they had forgotten to include the crackers which I think were mainly for the goat cheese ball, and when we asked for them it took a while to bring out and they turned out to just be ritz crackers which turned me off a bit. If you're an Italian eaterie you should be serving your customers a nicer cracker for a cheese board. For dinner my husband and I both got the veal amalfi and it was delicious, I think it had a lot of sodium in it though as I felt it all the next day. It more spiced than we expected but it was perfect. The lemon sauce was delicious and the veal cutlet was done very well. However, the three massive potatoes were a little odd and the one I cut into was slightly hard and I'm not sure cooked all the way through. Regardless I did like the dish. I would definitely go back here but would want to try other things on the menu. I gave this place 4 stars but believe it's more a 3.5 star. read more

I've been to Fig and Tomato many times and always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. However, when I went recently the food quality was not good. We ordered their stuffed shrimp with crabmeat appetizer special for $24 and it was sliced shrimp with bread filling on top - not stuffed and not crab. That's not right! Don't serve that to your customers. The Caesar salad was bland - I've had better from a pizzeria. The linguine with meatballs was good - but for close to $100 for 2 people that quality should be much better. It saddens me to write this, but hopefully the owner will changes things immediately. read more

This was our first experience at this restaurant. We had a 7 o'clock reservation and they did seat us pretty much on time which was nice. But the table they sat us at, was in a corner and so one of the chairs had to be on the far end of the table and it was kind of awkward to have a conversation with the rest of the party. There were four of us. The service was quite slow. It took a while for the first appetizer to come out and the second one was close to 10 minutes behind. Not what one would hope for. From the time we ordered until the time we got our entrées was almost 90 minutes. Pretty excessive. However, the food was fantastic! I had the veal Saltimbocca, which was off the charts delicious. The best I've ever had. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her ravioli. And the couple we came with also enjoyed their entrées. The place was super cute. We arrived and the hostess was overwhelmed without the restaurant being busy. We had reservations for 2 for 6pm. The bread and oil served was to die for. The stuffed mushrooms were good. Lacked some seasoning. I ordered the special chicken momma Mia, breaded chicken breast with breaded eggplant, mozzarella, roasted red peppers and pasta in a pink sauce. The peppers lacked flavor and the entire dish was good but needed some more seasoning of some kind. I added the sun dried tomatoes then the dish from my friend's special of lemon chicken and that was so much better. I added a lot of salt and pepper. The salads (we all shared a caesar and a romaine, feta, onion, chick pea, olive) were good and fresh. Portions a bit small on the salads. Focaccia and pesto was delicious and nice and toasty. The entrees were mixed. The chicken milanese was the best and the freshest. Short rib ravioli were disappointing- the edges a bit undercooked and the meat a little mushy and mysterious; the marinara over it was mediocre. The eggplant parm was gluey though the penne vodka it came with was good. The shrimp amalfi was ok - pasta was nice and a decent amount of shrimp and sausage (they were rounds, I expected crumbled) and the white wine and garlic sauce was ok - could have been more lemony. It was served in a cereal bowl which made it hard to eat. Should have been in a shallow bowl or a plate. Parmesan cheese was offered - it was the powdered stuff so not high end. Highly recommended place that turned out to be a dive. My wife and the ladies in her family came once before for girls night and said they had a great time. So we decided to come here last night for my mother in-law's birthday. The anticipation was high so I expecting something extravagant. The ambiance wasn't anything outstanding, just typical decor, very clean and lighting wasn't too dark. The place seemed very inviting. As for the menu, Fig & Tomato didn't really have much on the menu that stood out. We ordered the spicy pork chop, the calamari, hot honey pizza, margarita pizza and a salad. The hot honey pizza and the bruschetta was the only thing that was flavorful and would order again. The pork chop seemed a bit under cooked, but we took our chances. Service, our waitress was "meh" at best. She didn't seem interested in serving us and the whole time we felt she wanted to just have us finish our food and leave. It's understandable if there was a need for tables, however, there were plenty of open tables so I didn't feel the need to be rushed. They kept trying to give us takeaway boxes while there was still food on our plates that we were still picking at. Ultimately, we decided to just rush through our dessert, not even finish our wine and leave. Would definitely not recommend unless you're looking for a mediocre Italian restaurant due to the poor service and the feeling of being rushed with a tab of $500. read more

Very disappointing, unorganized and Inexcusable restaurant on MOTHER'S DAY... A few weeks back I put in my reservation for the Fig & Tomato restaurant for my family to celebrate Mother's Day. We wanted a 5:30 dinner esp because there was a young child in my party. We were recommended to eat there by another friend. At 11:50 am that morning I received a text saying that Fig & Tomato changed my reservation from 5:30 to 6pm. I thought that was strange since no one called me to make that change but I was still ok with a half hour change. Then as my family was walking out of our house at 5:30 to drive to the restaurant my phone rang and it was Fig and Tomato saying they had to change our reservation to 6:45 now. I did ask to speak to the manager. But according to them there was nothing they could do for me. I will NEVER go there or recommend them to anyone. This was extremely stressful and upsetting for me and my family let alone it being Mother's Day. read more

Substandard. We dined here on Friday June 22. First impression was it was uncomfortably hot in the restaurant, to the point that our entire party was literally perspiring. Someone kept adjusting the thermostat all night and apologizing over and over that "Someone forgot to turn the AC's fans on earlier that day." As some have mentioned in earlier reviews, the servers are in dire need of training - in the absolute BASICS. All the hallmarks of poor service were in full effect this night, like literally taking 30 minutes to greet us after we were seated and then....disappearing like a ghost. No ice offered for white wine. Bread arrived yet another 20 minutes later, with our appetizers. Utensils were taken away and not replaced when our entrees came out. And literally each time, no one was within plain site that we could flag down. I mean, where do they go? We had to enlist the help of a poor busser a few times to get service. Food was mediocre at best. The Salmon Tuscan (which was a "special") had a decent creamy sauce, but the Salmon itself was not fresh. Chicken Amalfi was DRY and uninspiring. Best part of the meal was the Burrata appetizer. There are loads of great Euro and Italian restaurants in our area, no reason to suffer through uncoordinated service and "so so" food. read more

Fast, friendly service with a smile. Great options on the menu for your tasty meal. Plenty of parking and a byob to help the wallet. They had covered outdoor dining available when I was there, which we took advantage of. Table bread was a soft garlic foccia bread, served with a delicious pesto on the side so you can spoon on that extra flavor. A tasty bite. I had the Linguini Marechiara which is mussels, calamari, and shrimp (in a just the right amount of spicy) marinara sauce served over linguini. I really enjoyed my meal. The first two times I visited fig & tomato were takeout orders from their side takeout kitchen. Both times the orders were wrong. Of course the customer has to take some accountability when not checking the food before exiting, but from both of those times being wrong- I took a long break from getting food here again. That was until last week when a friend and I decided to dine in. The restaurant was almost completely empty on a Thursday night at 7:30. The service was awful to say the least. We also had half finished our appetizer before a server was asking if we were all done after waiting awhile for it. It was completely quiet and the ambiance was just off. Fortunately the entrees we ordered were delicious. Big portions and very tasty. It's BYOB as well so you will save on drinks. Even to get our water refilled was a challenge. I won't be returning to fig & tomato, but on the off chance someone is looking for a good bowl of pasta- this wouldn't be a bad place to start if you're less worried about service. I'd instead visit their other restaurant in Harrington park- cork & crust, which has way better service & ambiance. read more

Dined at Fig and Tomato on a Wednesday night with my wife. Started with the most delicious flatbread with an oil spread. Wife had a large portion of chicken Milanese with delicious burrata on top. I ate the chicken Amalfi with sausage and hot peppers. Had a perfect amount of heat and beautiful thin cutlet. Ended with homemade ice cream trio which was amazing. I have been coming here for almost three years and the food is always consistently good. My biggest issue is the feeling of being rushed. It's incredibly rude to put your fork down between bites and have the woman who clears the table try to take your food away. Maybe I'm old school but everyone should be finished eating before plates are taken away. This seems to be the normal practice here. I was there on time and they told me I had to wait 10 mins, fine. by 4:45 I went up to the hostess, who I had spoken to several times, and she forgot that I was even there waiting. We sit down and had to wait two hours to get our meals. Not exaggerating. Two full hours. I asked so many times what was going on and the waitress was super defensive borderline annoyed with me for even asking. We got out of there after 7. Not a single apology from anyone. I get it, it's a holiday and you're busy, but I would've liked to know what was going on with my food. The waitress ran by the table every single time. Very understaffed and extremely unprofessional about it. 0/10 will never ever be back there. And honestly, the food was not good. The mashed potato's made me gag. For main course I ordered veal parm and my wife ordered veal milanese Both veals were tough , over breaded and tasteless My wife had to order a steak knife to cut. My parm was overcheesed and the sauce had a very strange bland taste. Needless to say both meals were inedible. Wife and I decided to try Fig & Tomato for the first time tonight and couldn't get a reservation (good sign for the business) so we decided to opt for takeout instead. We weren't looking for a huge meal so we decided on some apps, a salad, and a pasta dish to share. Outdoor seating was packed when we got there (another good sign). Apps: Fig & Tomato Flatbread 3.5/5 The honey/lemon dressing this came with was great. The only real criticism is the way it was prepared. Thick tomato slices really took away from the dish. Diced tomatoes tossed with the fig and goat cheese like a bruschetta would balance this so much better. Roasted Brussel Sprouts 3.5/5 Another great dressing for the brussel sprouts. I think this was honey based as well with salt and pepper. We didn't really have any complains about the sprouts but we weren't blown away either. Roasted Beet Salad 3.5/5 Raspberry vinegarette was fantastic. Definitely made wit real raspberry not sugary concentrate. Didn't love the portobello mushrooms with this one. Just seemed out of place with the rest of the dish. Milano Pasta 4/5 The sauce was good, had a large serving of grilled chicken on it, and the pasta was just a little al dente which I love. The bacon was a little too chewy for me though. Pork in a pasta dish really needs to get crispy otherwise the sauce makes it too soggy. Overall I'd say this is a good 3.5/5 stars. The $75 bill seems a little high for 2 apps, a salad, and a pasta but portions were all large and easily shared so it was worth every dollar. We will likely be trying this place again and will hopefully plan ahead enough to go eat at the restaurant. Definitely a place worth trying if you are in the area. read more

My family used this restaurant for a funeral lunch, for about 20 people. It was one of the only places around that were open in the afternoon and could accommodate that many people. The atmosphere & decor are lovely, and the staff were very nice. But. The food was mediocre even by NJ standards - in NYC this place wouldn't last a week. And, I was completely shocked when it turned out that the only gluten free meat dish you could get was a dry slab of chicken breast with no sauce that had the taste and consistency of shoe leather. Come on...really??? Find yourself a decent chef and this restaurant has the makings of a nice option....but not as things stand now. read more
