I have a pair of bedside lamps that one of them needed the pull chain replaced. The original pull…read morechain was string type and finally after years of pulling on and off, it started showing the wear and tear and began to fray. The fraying started a while ago and I was procrastinating about replacement, but now it was to a point that it was going to snap at any time, and it was time to replace. I was debating on replacing the lamp rather than spend the money to repair and I decided to repair it. I dropped it off on a Saturday afternoon and woman said it would be ready by Monday. I wasn't expecting it to be replaced so quickly. The cost of the replacement socket--the pull chain couldn't be replaced on its own--was $9.50, reasonable. The labor though was $28, and the total cost was almost $40. While I could have just purchased a new bed lamp for less than that, considering the alternative was having an otherwise good lamp go to landfill. I thought it was worth it price and now my lamp will last many more years. If you have lamp repairs, I would definitely bring it to Carlos Lighting for repair and support this local Mom and Pop business.

Its a mid sized store and its stuffed with lights of all descriptions including many that fit our desire for that mid century modern look. Its been a while since we went light shopping and the change to LED's has allowed the designers to be increasingly creative with their designs. We found a few that held promise. The sales lady was personable and unobtrusive allowing to wander in peace and the prices were in line with everywhere else. Not much more you could ask for. Sometimes having a distinctive home is both a blessing and a curse. In our case we are lucky enough to own an Eichler. For those unfamiliar, Joseph Eichler was a developer (primarily in the SF Bay Area and LA) who between 1949 and 1966 built what is now termed Mid Century Modern or if you will "California Modern" tract homes. Taking cues from not only Frank Lloyd Wright, The Eames, et al, and the famous Case Study Homes they bought affordable high end architecture to the masses. All told over 11,000 of these homes were built. Given the distinct, love it or hate it style, changing stuff is difficult if you want it to look right. In this case with our recent (yes I did it all myself) exterior refresh we decided to correct a wrong with our exterior lighting and find something in character with the home. If you are interested in Eichler the "People in Glass Houses: The Legacy of Joseph Eichler" is a fantastic documentary

Brian was able to complete all the work, fix the outlet, and start investigating the lights. The thing I really liked about Brian was that he explained to me everything he did and why. He told me instead of calling him out for another half day to investigate the lights, I should try a few things first and went through some hypotheses (based on the investigations he already did). With the information he gave me I was able to debug and fix the issue myself saving me money. I'd highly recommend BMH for anyone looking for electrical work.

His specialty and personal passion is 18th-century antiques, while my taste leans more toward vintage Hollywood Regency and French-inspired décor. When it was finished, he stepped back and said, "It came out beautiful," and he was absolutely right. He transformed my vintage Schonbek chandelier into a breathtaking centerpiece.
