This business had one other review that said they weren't open though they said they were open on line. My clients' and my experience was exactly the same. Nobody there! We arrived at 11:45 am because they said they opened at 11am on a Tuesday. Lights aren't on...nothing to indicate when they would be back. Walked around the building...no movement. I wouldn't go to this place again even if you paid me. Disrespect for the customer who made time to come to their store.. I'm not even sure if their products are worth it. I'm out. read more

Eichen was one of our first stops in our quest for a mid century modern exterior light for our Eichler Home (more on that below) . Its a mid sized store and its stuffed with lights of all descriptions including many that fit our desire for that mid century modern look. Its been a while since we went light shopping and the change to LED's has allowed the designers to be increasingly creative with their designs. We found a few that held promise. The sales lady was personable and unobtrusive allowing to wander in peace and the prices were in line with everywhere else. Not much more you could ask for. Sometimes having a distinctive home is both a blessing and a curse. In our case we are lucky enough to own an Eichler. For those unfamiliar, Joseph Eichler was a developer (primarily in the SF Bay Area and LA) who between 1949 and 1966 built what is now termed Mid Century Modern or if you will "California Modern" tract homes. Taking cues from not only Frank Lloyd Wright, The Eames, et al, and the famous Case Study Homes they bought affordable high end architecture to the masses. All told over 11,000 of these homes were built. Given the distinct, love it or hate it style, changing stuff is difficult if you want it to look right. In this case with our recent (yes I did it all myself) exterior refresh we decided to correct a wrong with our exterior lighting and find something in character with the home. We ordered a light in person at the beginning of Feb. Was told it'd be a few weeks. 5 weeks go by. I call for an update. It takes three phone calls over three days to get in touch with someone who can give an update - the first two times they take my info and say someone will call back, but noone ever calls back. I finally get in touch and am told that it's backordered until May. A few days later, I decide to cancel. Again, it takes several calls: - first two calls, the associates I talk to don't handle in-person orders and so can't process my request and their manager is out - the manager calls me and cancels the order, but needs my credit card to issue the refund, and I don't have it on me at the moment - I call again a few days later, and the manager isn't in and so they can't issue the refund. I understand that sometimes things are on backorder. But there was no proactive communication about the change from "a few weeks" to "a few months", and my phone calls go into a black hole even when I do get in touch with someone. read more

This is a major bummer that this once wonderful lamp store called Eichens Lighting has been bought out by Modernlights.com. A once traditional lamp store no more. What is even more disappointing is called the listed number 3x over 3 days and left VMs asking for a callback. Just wanting to know if the store sold lampshades. I had visited several light stores before I remembered this place in my own backyard. Our contractor had sent us to his favorite spot which was in San Carlos. But add a snotty salesperson and the drive to San Carlos no longer seemed attractive. They carry: Hinkley, Kichler, Hubberton Forge, Minka Lavery, Baldwin and many more. Many of these light stores do about 80% of their business by special order; once you place your order, you'll need to go back to pick up your order. To return a special order is a 25% restocking fee. other places don't take returns which makes ordering out of a catalog verrrrry unatractive indeed. Home Depot, OSH and the like have similar options though probably without the range of higher end special orders and certainly without the staff there to help out. Eichen's is a long time El Camino Real establishment. They have a pretty extensive selection. Best feature: Owner Susan's personal attention to your lighting needs as well as her expertise in the vast array of lighting inventory. There are literally thousands of options, it really does help to have someone who knows the inventory willingly spend a bit of time with you. Our home is very special because of her personal attention to our lighting needs. read more

What a great experience. We went to the store to look at lighting options and ended up purchasing a new floor lamp and dining room pendant lamp. Both are very stylish and modern; both really fit the look we were going for. The service was excellent - young woman who helped us was both friendly and invested in finding us the right products at our price-point. There are so many options in the store, giving a good visual of the various directions you might go. Not a "cheap" place - everything is higher quality than say Lamps Plus (we love Lamps Plus, don't get me wrong... but their stuff isn't built to last like this place's inventory) and the prices have a big range. The folks at Eichen's are super helpful. I bought a beautiful floor sample crystal chandelier and the post purchase customer service has been phenomenal. There were a few crystal pieces damaged or lost when I was transporting it home and possibly when I was waiting for my remodel to finish and they replaced them for me and even helped me install them due to extreme complexity. I used to go here as a kid with my mom and it's great that it's still around. The customer service is top notch. You're greeted and helped right away. I inherited two lamps from my Grandma and they needed shades. I searched everywhere on the internet and at the local big name stores and couldn't find anything that would work. Then I remembered Eichen's. They have tons of shades and the woman helped me choose what would look best. One of them was on sale, too. I'm so happy I went there. They also have a nice edited selection of fans, lamps, and fixtures. My son came with me (he's 4) and they were very nice to him as well. My house is about to go into a major remodeling. My husband and I need a lot of lights! I drive by this place from time to time, never expect it's such a gem! When we walked in, we were shocked by the selections they carried. We were greeted by a SA named Cassie. We briefly told her what we are doing for the house, and she showed us a few items. And since we are working with a designer, I want to bring her down and make sure everything we picked out goes together. Cassie spent over an hour with us, knowing we are not going to buy anything that day. She even printed out everything I liked, with measurements and item numbers. She makes sure we are taking care of. And right before we leaves the store, the owner walked in. A tall German guy named Gilbert. He introduced himself and gave us his direct phone number. She helped me get some ideas for my light remodeling project, and even took the time to show me the types of lights the store has,. She was able to recommend some gorgeous lights that she thought I'd like, and she was very knowledgeable on the style and functionality of them. Eichen's is a very good lighting store. My wife and I visited the store several times to get ideas on indoor and outdoor lights, and found the store to have a good selection of options. All of the salespeople were very friendly and knowledgeable, and answered our questions and were very attentive. This level of service might warrant 3 stars, maybe 4. So why am I giving them 5 stars? In addition to "conventional" lighting, I was also interested in LED lighting. I knew generally what I wanted to do, but didn't know exactly which parts to order or how to configure things. Adam was very helpful in helping me figure out which parts I needed, and before ordering he double checked with the company to make sure we were ordering the right parts. Then, he called me to confirm everything before ordering. I really appreciated this, since it avoided any confusion or reordering from the start. (Also, I have had very different experiences with another lighting stores in the area!) Overall, I have dealt with Susan, Adam, and Matt on several occasions and all of them have always been very professional and helpful. In my search for the best lighting for my recent kitchen remodel, I stumbled across Eichen's Lighting, which has been around forever, but was in need of a facelift. I quickly learned that it's undergone an amazing remodel itself and has transitioned from an "old times" mom and pop shop to a first class modern store with choices ranging from what you might find eating in a fancy SOMA restaurant to design caliber homes. I found the perfect industrial modern bronze pendants for over my new island, which happen to be the first thing people compliment when they come over. The service is excellent and I especially love that it's one of the only stores in the bay open on the weekends, so for those of us with a full time job, scoring Pinterest on the side and trying to come up with that perfect look, we can actually check it out in person before buying on our time off. read more

I have had three lamps rewired at this store.. The first experience was outstanding. A gentleman reviewed the large lamps and gave an estimate range. The work was done quickly and he charged less than the estimate due to savings he was able to achieve. I trusted him and did not feel like he took unfair advantage with pricing. Given this experience, I brought a small (11") lamp in for similar work. A woman quoted me a price higher than what I paid for the large, more complicated lamps. I was billed at the highest estimate for less work and parts. THe value I received previously, was not replicated. I would suggest for clients going into this shop to request a break down of the estimate..parts..specifically outlining what is needed and the cost for each item. And a time estimate. The trust I had in this service provider has been compromised. Sadly, I will seek a new vendor for future work. read more

I like the honesty of the owners where if there is an area of lighting they are not experts on they will send you to the experts instead of just selling you some product. They did this to me when i had some difficult issues to overcome with the recessed lighting i was trying to install they sent me to a place that specialized in what i was trying to achieve. We were on a hunt for the perfect bathroom lights that would fit our bathroom - Eichen's actually had 2 of the lamps we wanted in stock. We got home and unfortunately, one of the lamps was brass, and one was brushed nickel. We brought the brass lamp back and luckily Susan allowed us to buy the display lamp - being the laggers we are we had a final inspection on our house in less than a week and apparently bathroom lighting is sort of a necessity to pass. While connecting the 2nd lamp we blew it out and again had to make a trip back to Eichen's. Susan again came through for us and fixed the lamp in the same day. She was really wonderful and we will definitely go back when we need more light. read more

I bought 2 LED lights from Eichen Lighting. They order the lights from NY and I got them in just about 5 working days. One of the light bulbs cracked during installation. I have no idea whether it was a defect or the workmanship of our contractor. I emailed Eichen's Lighting and offer to pay for a replacement. They were so nice, they replied to me right away and told me they will order a replacement for free. The replacement part arrived in about a week. The light fixture look so handsome on my wall. Thank you. Their selections are exquisite, I will definitely go back if I ever need to buy light fixtures. read more
