Huge store with all types of used and new books. I only had time to look in the children's section…read morewhich was huge and decently organized by categories such as (sensory/cause and effect, holidays, popular authors, language, potty training, family). You could spend a good chunk of time browsing through the bins and shelves. It is great that they have a train table in the kids area so they kids can play while you browse the books. I was searching for Lunar New Year books, but couldn't find any. They had a bin for the big holidays like Christmas, Halloween, Easter and a general holiday bin for smaller holidays. The employees were nice and can system search by author/title, but they couldn't do a search by general topic/genre.

The Used Book Superstore in Burlington is my personal money pit -- and honestly, I'm fine with it…read more I've never managed to leave with fewer than ten books, and at this point, I don't even pretend I will. The selection feels endless. Every genre, every niche, and then, just when you think you've seen it all, there's a wall of Blu-rays, DVDs, video games, board games, and random bits of memorabilia you didn't know you wanted until they're already in your basket. The prices are almost insulting to other stores. Seriously, I've paid more for a cup of coffee than I have for some of the books here. You'd almost feel guilty... except you don't, because you're too busy carrying out a stack taller than your torso. The staff is excellent -- actually helpful, not the fake "let me know if you need anything" kind. They've tracked down what I came in looking for, and then somehow convinced me to walk out with three more titles I didn't even know existed. My shelves at home are groaning under the weight of their recommendations, but sure, suggest me another series. Why not. I've been a regular for about a year now, and as long as I live in Massachusetts, this will be one of the few places I actually look forward to throwing money at. You never know what you'll find here, which is exactly why I keep coming back.

Ah Ron's Radical Records as we used to call it. One of the OG Lowell record stores. Back in the day…read moreyou had Record Box, Record Lane, Garnick's and RRRecords (there may have been others, I'm talking 80's here). Been going to RRRecords since I was a freshman in high school. He used to sell used cassettes for like $2-5 depending on the artist. Got almost all of my metal cassettes here in high school. Nowadays it's used CD's for like $5-7 but still a bargain. I have to admit I don't go in here as much I used to, but every now and again if I'm downtown and see he's open I'll pop in and check it out. Still has all the eclectic stuff he's known worldwide for (noise music). He even has his own labels for that stuff. I mean, his main focus is not my bag, but I still try to support the business when I can. He's got tons of LP's, and all genres of music in there. Also a fair amount of CD's. If you get him talking, you'll find him to be friendly and knowledgeable, even about music he likely doesn't care for. All the other stores in the area are mostly gone now, but RRRecords is still chugging along, like a little slice of my coming of age...

Then worse still, next to the alarmist Covid sign was another sign stating "Due to covid, hours of operation are changed to 10am-1pm" :/ So I drove all the way over here to read some pusillanimous sign about covid and to learn that the owner doesn't wanna work so they changed their hours without updating their website. What an absolute waste of time. Maybe this establishment will go under because of their own dumb covid response, wouldn't that be a hoot!

This is a good Newbury Comics. Why? It's pretty big and it's TAX FREE! Also, I was happy to find…read morethe new Sloan album on the shelf on the first day of release, and also was in awe that they had a Brian Jonestown Massacre album hanging around on vinyl. Sexy. The only funny thing about this location is that it's attached, as in you can walk right into a Tweeter Center from your Newbury Comic shopping. It's a strange collaboration, at least in my book. Maybe smart for people who are taking home a new TV and want a movie to watch, but from the angle of the music purchaser, it doesn't provide a lot. Anytime we've gone in here, the people working are always really friendly and seem to be enjoying life. It's always a good shopping experience.

Sadly, Newbury Comics in my hometown let me down at this most wonderful time of the year…read more I remember always finding so many different things here when I was a kid. Now? It was really hard to find ANYTHING I wanted. Almost all of the old Buffy merchandise they had last year is gone. It's also looking a lot more like a Spencer Gifts than ever before. It's kind of sad. If you're looking for things that are currently being produced - including comic books - this is one of the few places you can go to pick 'em up. But... on Christmas Eve, this was the only place in Nashua that I went to that was really crowded. And the people here? Pretty horrible. It's still going to be one of my favorite stores in Nashua comparably, but... the ones in Boston (especially on the street where it was named) are more organized and have a better layout. I got pretty depressed after leaving this store yesterday... I remember how awesome it used to be.

Here are several reasons why you might legitimately find yourself at Garnicks: 1. You need an old record player, radio, arcade game, or television fixed. 2. You have a hipster craving for records, VHS, or other outdated media. 3. You want to get the perfect gift for an audiophile but need someone to talk to about their music tastes to determine what they may not have and would like to have. 4. You like to talk about music and want to waste an hour with some older dudes who can chat your ear off better than a radio personality. 5. You want to sell your collection of records, CDs, VHS, or old concert paraphernalia and be done with them. 6. Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought him back. If they don't have it in the store, don't be afraid to ask- they have thousands of CDs and Records hidden from plain view. Like the other used record store in town, they do a lot of business on EBay to make up for what they don't do in store. They also buy old media, so bring it here to get it appraised before you put those records and CDs in a yard sale. The place is falling apart and a bit of a mess, but the guys know where everything is and can usually find what you're looking for in less than a minute. If you visit more than once, they'll get to know you, your tastes, and what you're looking for so they can keep it in store for you. Here's a link to their EBay store, which has a very small selection of items: http://www.ebay.com/sch/paulgarmusic/m.html
