Here are several reasons why you might legitimately find yourself at Garnicks: 1. You need an old record player, radio, arcade game, or television fixed. 2. You have a hipster craving for records, VHS, or other outdated media. 3. You want to get the perfect gift for an audiophile but need someone to talk to about their music tastes to determine what they may not have and would like to have. 4. You like to talk about music and want to waste an hour with some older dudes who can chat your ear off better than a radio personality. 5. You want to sell your collection of records, CDs, VHS, or old concert paraphernalia and be done with them. 6. Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought him back. If they don't have it in the store, don't be afraid to ask- they have thousands of CDs and Records hidden from plain view. Like the other used record store in town, they do a lot of business on EBay to make up for what they don't do in store. They also buy old media, so bring it here to get it appraised before you put those records and CDs in a yard sale. The place is falling apart and a bit of a mess, but the guys know where everything is and can usually find what you're looking for in less than a minute. If you visit more than once, they'll get to know you, your tastes, and what you're looking for so they can keep it in store for you. The owner is named Jeff he's super laid back and a reminders me of a OH (original hipster- just made that up but as a gift to you I will let you use it-Your Welcome) not that new age hipsters that are taking over Brooklyn faster then that mice on a NYC subway station. This shop has all your favorite music that has inspired the vast majority if not all of the current music your hearing today. Jeff opened this store over 30 years ago and is a music genius himself. This shop is packed floor to ceiling with very cool Atracks, Vinyls, Tape Cassettes, CDs of all oldie but goodies. Music is a passion for some people and you can feel that this store is filled with not just music items but packed with Love. You can see that like this name of this shop music is in Jeff's DNA I'm not a music person. I love music but hated my grade school musical teacher so that were I being to dislike music. I respect people who do have musical talents as I don't have any. It's a cool great place to come and get inspired. I'm sure if your a music person Jeff will gladly talk about all that.

The employees were nice and can system search by author/title, but they couldn't do a search by general topic/genre.

The selection feels endless. Every genre, every niche, and then, just when you think you've seen it all, there's a wall of Blu-rays, DVDs, video games, board games, and random bits of memorabilia you didn't know you wanted until they're already in your basket. The prices are almost insulting to other stores. Seriously, I've paid more for a cup of coffee than I have for some of the books here. You'd almost feel guilty... except you don't, because you're too busy carrying out a stack taller than your torso. The staff is excellent -- actually helpful, not the fake "let me know if you need anything" kind. They've tracked down what I came in looking for, and then somehow convinced me to walk out with three more titles I didn't even know existed. My shelves at home are groaning under the weight of their recommendations, but sure, suggest me another series. Why not. I've been a regular for about a year now, and as long as I live in Massachusetts, this will be one of the few places I actually look forward to throwing money at. You never know what you'll find here, which is exactly why I keep coming back.

They will lower the price if you call them out on their shenanigans, though, so be diligent. Their recent arrivals section is usually pretty good, but the normal, already alphabetized stuff are pretty common records but marked up due to location. Honestly, I only ever look through the recent arrival stuff when I stop in nowadays. But again, check the editions before buying because they will absolutely claim it's a rarer edition when it's certainly not.

The store sprawls out and is a little daunting trying to figure out some of the inventory. They really split genres down into sub sub sub genres which makes it a bit of a pain if you don't know the store or if you're not correctly "niching" your artist. But... they know where they have everything so if you're looking for a specific artist or album just ask. They will show you right where it is. They were also great in explaining how they chose the sub sub genre which helped to figure out a few others. I would have liked the comics to have been in their own area rather than intermixed with the records but I guess that works for them. As I wasn't on a comic shopping trip, I only gave a cursory glance through some of the boxes and made a note to bring my list on my next visit. As for CDs, they have 10's of thousands stacked up throughout the store. Racks if cds are everywhere you look. Overall great trip. Lots of inventory and very helpful staff. Bull Moose Music moved from its former smaller store in Downtown Portsmouth to a bigger strip plaza…read morespace on Woodbury Avenue near Gosling Road.  Anywho, this new employee owned Bull Moose store is way less cramped than its former downtown location. This store had their grand opening several weeks ago. Like its old location except more spread out inside, the Portsmouth location offers a pretty good selection of new and used music, movies, video games, and books to choose from. The store is still a work in progress and evolving. The store has been organized nicely by sections with vinyl records, books, CDs, video games, DVDs, Blu-rays and miscellaneous items in between. The music is organized by genre alphabetically with a mix of new and used CDs, though some CDs were not on the shelves yet and still in boxes. The DVDs and Blu-Ray movies are separated and organized alphabetically, TV and music titles separate. The prices including the sale prices here are very competitive to other area stores  (ie. FYE, Best Buy, Target, Walmart). As a holder of the Bull Moose Music FBC (Freakin' Buyers Card), I earn points with each purchase here and receive the Bull Moose Music weekly emails with their e-sales flyers, new releases, promotions, and events (chainwide).  IMO, the new Portsmouth Bull Moose location is an improvement to the older cramped location. The Bull Moose Superstore in Scarborough, Maine is still my favorite location with a larger selection of new and used books to choose from, which also had some good travel books offered at deep discounts.

I shop for records all over the country and have never seen a more overpriced record store…read more They certainly have a commendable amount of inventory- in particular of foreign rock n roll pressings. If you are a KISS fan especially, there is a lot of specialized, rarer stuff here. But the rare inventory seems to come at the cost of all the inventory's pricing. The prices are 2-3 times what I've paid for the same condition pressings elsewhere- sometimes 4-5 times more. I'm not sure how it's getting these prices especially in a small town like Rochester. A bummer- if the prices were in line I would've bought a good dozen records!

Everything was well run, everyone in line was respectful and nice, I'm not sure if this is how all RSD events are, but, I'm glad that this was my experience. The store itself is HUGE, tons and tons of vinyl to choose from, ranging from vintage to brand new. Everyone working, from the owner, to the girls at the registers, were amazing! That said, I brought my wife's vintage but Cheap turntable here when it stopped working. They didn't judge me for my mediocre equipment or even try to sell me on something new. Instead they spent the better part of an hour troubleshooting, allowing me to watch their process, and ultimately landing on two problems. One simply required some calibration to resolve. The other issue was a dead stylus, which they had a replacement for and installed, for a reasonable price. It's worth noting that in addition to their premium audio equipment, they also stock a sizable selection of LP records, encompassing a variety of genres. Thanks Fidelis!

There are a few premier ultra high end audio stores in the Northeast…read more Fidelis is an exceptional store- able to satisfy very high price equipment (5 digits) and able to satisfy any budgets for a beginner audiophile. The store never rushes you to buy- take your time to listen to really good gear. Get good advice on how to put a system together. Most of all- ask to listen to the super expensive stuff that you won't be able to buy- and figure out what good audio reproduction can be- then build your system to emulate that.
