I tried the spicy chicken sandwich that came out piping hot. Pretty good but I would have liked to have had some more sauce. I couldn't tell it was spicy. I probably would have enjoyed the sandwich better if it had some sort of side that came with it also. Nonetheless, I have to say our food was prepared quickly. LUNCH review - almost left because cafe downstairs is kind of grungy and it was (finally) a gorgeous day so we wanted to sit outside. Found out that, up 22 steps, is a lovely outdoor patio with umbrella tables. Well priced cafe menu includes a bunch of different quinoa bowls, salads, burgers, sandwiches and more. We enjoyed a tofu quinoa bowl with veggies and a fried egg (get the gochujang sauce on side if you don't like spicy) and a chicken quinoa bowl made exactly as ordered (well done chicken and sauce on side). Appreciated te lovely waiter who climbed those steps multiple times and refilled our waters a lot! Paid street parking was readily available or there's a lot behind the restaurant. read more

Ficus should be considered as 2 distinct businesses at this point. For bubble and other beverages with casual fare during the day, and an attempt at fine dining upstairs at night. I'm a fan of their first category, but not of the second..... A few friends and I had a great time here last night. This was due largely to the company and libations. The food left us all a bit confused and disappointed, but there were high points. My personal selections were mussels as an app and the sea bass entree. The mussels came out looking and smelling good and served with French fries. A first taste revealed that the fries and broth were both over salted. The broth was ok, but I had no need for the spoon included to slurp it up. The bivalves were good, not as plump and tasty as are available in this town, but acceptable. I would NOT order this again. The sea bass was a much better dish, and the fish was pristine and cooked perfectly. The coconut, ginger and lemongrass sauce was good too. But the side of veggies that included exactly 3 snow peas and 2 baby turnips seemed more a garnish that something to go with the meal. Also absent was any type of starch to enjoy the sauce with. This could have been a very good entree, had it been balanced by other things on the plate. I didn't taste my friends choices, but the steak and duck entrees were better thought out. Although not garnering any more praise than my own choice. Their apps of beet carpaccio and scallops were better than my mussels, but also very small portions. None of these dishes were something any of us would return for. The 2 dessert options were both ordered and both easily forgotten. Bombolino was basically zeppoles with a creme Anglaise and blackberry dipping sauce, I think it came 5 to an order which seemed small, also the fact that there were 3 of us, maybe they might have included 1 extra so we could each have 2? The chocolate dessert seemed more upscale looking, my friend thought it was just ok. I guess the addition of a bit of Hagen Daz coffee ice cream could not help it. A bit about the space and customer service....You enter the restaurant through the normal Ficus doorway. The downstairs was closed at this time but seemed messy and unkempt. There were leaves inside....to the left you will notice an alcove where you check in and are then ushered upstairs. With dark paint on the ceilings and walls the vibe is a little better than D'espana but not what I think of when I think fine dining. More upscale casual. The service was friendly but also out of their element. No info was relayed about the chef, the business or any of the dishes. Even basics such as removing empty plates and refilling water glasses were overlooked. When I inquired about any side dishes I was told that the chef has a vision of what he wants to put on the plate, so it may vary from what you've experienced elsewhere. Well ok, but that does not explain why a fish dish containing plenty of fish and a nice sauce would not contain a starch to help devour that sauce. Was I supposed to use the raisin nut bread??? On that subject, it was ok, some might remember it from Charlie Browns restaurants. No butter for it but a mild olive oil. I think the fact that this is BYOB might help gain some customers in a town where that's not usually the case for the better restaurants. But fine dining competition is pretty fierce here, they will need to up their game if they want to compete. I hope they can adjust and improve because it is a unique space and I'd like to return for more than a mango smoothie. read more

What's happening at Ficus? They've got a sit down dining option that serves European inspired cuisine that is incredible. We attended a soft opening on an evening in September of 2021. A 3 course plate option was offered that highlighted some of the options on their new menu. What a night it was!! We ordered: 1st Course: Peach Salad Burrata 2nd Course: Octopus and Carrots Salmon Mi-Cuite 3rd Course: Seabass Steak Beverages: Peach Lady Orange Coffee All entrees were delicious!! Quality ingredients and the attention to each entree screams "cooked by a Chef" and not some line cook. At the end of our meal, the Chef introduced himself and we discussed the ingredients, preparation and cooking techniques of the entrees. This dining experience was memorable. Went with another couple and all 4 of us had terrific meals, from appetizers to main courses, and ranging from scallops to duck and more. Portions were perfect, allowing for some take-home goodies, and the waiter was just the right amount of attentive. The venue itself is what I'd call a modern approach to rustic, and the walls are decorated with a variety of high-quality work by local artists, changing every month or so. It's BYOB, although there are a limited sections of what I imagine to be local wines available. Highly recommended, and definitely warrants a return visit! read more

I've heard good things about this place so I thought it would be nice to try. they have a Mother's Day brunch that was $55 per person. Not worth $55 per person. My mother ordered steak and eggs soft scrambled. Came to the table cold. The waitress was kind enough to bring her a new plate. it comes back and half the steak was well done and half was raw. My sisters frittata was watery, no flavor when it was suppose to be full of vegetables. My lox Benedict was okay. I asked the waitress for the manager and she went to get her and then came back to tell me the manager was too busy to talk to me. WHAT. listen, I'm a server and I understand things get crazy on holidays but, wow. you can tell also they were under staffed. our poor waitress was waiting on at least 7 tables. And no anger towards the waitress. She was very kind and she even said how ridiculous it was that the food was cold and disgusting. As I take my first bite, I barely taste the paper thin cut eggplant, I barely taste the tomato jam, I barely taste the avocado, and what arugula? The biggest let down was that it was $12.99. As I watch my companion slurp his Pork Satay Noodle, I ask to take a bite. The pork loin was juicy, the linguine perfectly al dente and there was just the right amount of peanut satay sauce that also had a lovely kick to it. I offered my companion half of my sandwich and asked if I could have half of his so I don't have to suffer and eat this sad sandwich! Smart, huh?? I enjoyed my Cococa Boba Milk Tea even though there was no ice, sugar level adjustment. This cafe was bustling because it is in the heart of Princeton. A college town that I love visiting. I'm always in awe of the historic homes and feel fortunate that I only live 20 minutes from here. You can spend an entire day here where there are many boutiques, shops, cafes and restaurants. I had an amazing time during the Yelp event. I met some new friends and was able to try samples of the different tea as well as an Iced Matcha tea. I am in love with the tea and naturally had to add Boba to mine. Ficus is located on the North end of Princeton closer to Hogie Haven and 7-11. The prices are reasonable, the staff was awesome and friendly, plus I would come back. It was about a million degrees Saturday and we had been playing Pokemon Go for about 5 hours when we finally stopped in to Ficus. First off I'll say our service was great and speedy, and the building itself has a lot of charm. The drink menu is so unique compared to a lot of other places in the area. Also, some places use the super artificial powder to make their drinks which leaves them sickeningly sweet (think bubble tea at the mall), but Ficus definitely goes with a more natural flavor. Unfortunately, this is why I did take a star off, because the Galaxy Love drink that I got was not quite sweet enough for me, and my fiance's mango green tea was also a bit bitter compared to what we're used to. And I'll disclose that I do usually go for milk teas, I was just so swayed by the beauty of Galaxy Love. I was left with a bit of FOMO looking at the next table over and their brown sugar boba milk tea. And my friend said that her Thai milk tea latte was pretty sweet and absolutely delicious. But this is a good thing, because there are still so many things left on the menu I'd like to try. Especially the red bean cocoa boba milk tea and all these slushes with cream sound phenomenal. And I don't even know where to start with the food menu, too. I'll definitely be back, but I'll be remembering my personal tastes next time and stick with the milk teas. read more

My friends saw the polished website and were intrigued. We show up to a disheveled cafe and ended up sitting in a relatively dirty corner booth with no table service for lunch. The single employee that was working customer-facing didn't even bother to give us silverware or napkins for a party of six. Fast causal minus the flavor of food. Painters tape on the walls still, wondering if I should pitch in a hand with their renovation project... far from what they protected online. We really wanted a slightly upscale lunch to celebrate a Monday that was meaningful to us. That didn't happen. They made our sandwiches fast, but it was bread, along little " spicy" sauce, and no side at all. Only saving grace was crisp panko fried chicken (see photo). Accompanied with dry lettuce and a teaspoon of cabbage... lame. One of my few negative reviews, but I hope this place finds their way. We had a disappointing experience at Ficus. The staff was a little scurried and confused, which was not the issue and somewhat understandable on such a busy day. The issue was there was a RUBBERBAND in our food. It looked like an onion and my husband took a bite only to realize it was an actual rubberband. After asking to speak with the manager, we were told that the manager was "too busy" in the kitchen to come speak with us. We said we would wait, but 45 minutes later were still waiting. We were appalled at how this situation was handled. We didn't even expect any recourse for the rubberband but wanted to convey what happened to the manger so they can ensure it wouldn't happen again, but she wouldn't even come speak with us. For a $250 meal, I'm most disappointed in the fact that the manager refused to speak with us. Very disappointing. Overall, the food was mediocre, the service was polite but confused. I had a great first experience here today. Firstly, I was pleasantly surprised to see there was parking in the back. There were also cute tables and chairs with umbrellas in the front, as well as a booth and a few other table and chairs inside. Walking in, the decor and atmosphere was friendly and bright. They have plexiglass up between customers and the employees behind the counter. I ordered the Mango Hibiscus fruit tea with strawberry popping bobas and it was amazing! The taste was very fruity and delicious. There were actual pieces of mango in the drink as well. The popping bobas were also quite yummy. The employees were friendly and helpful in picking out drinks. I loved sitting there finishing my drink with a friend. It's definitely a cute place to sit and chat over fruit teas. Stopped by because the shop looked intriguing and despite the Princeton prices giving me a slight deterrent went ahead and gave them a shot. The spicy chicken sandwich is crisp, juicy, delicious with an excellent ciabatta (sorry i ate it outside in the dark and cold) and it warmed my heart. That's gone above and beyond my expectations and would say is a solid 4.5 stars despite being a chicken sandwich snob. Also tried the Salmon Farro salad, which was perfectly cooked and light and again beat my expectations as well.. probably a solid 3.5. Foregone the bubble tea for a special drink (the butterfly pea honey lemonade) -- I'm a fan. I do wish they were in a different location or had better prices.
