I've came to FIC Smog for the past 8 years or so and I've never once had a problem. Every time I come I'm greeted with a friendly smile, exceptional service, and great communication. The cherry on top is that they're open on Saturday's which makes fitting in a smog check that much easier. I didn't even need an appointment and just dropped by. Got me in and out so that I could go and enjoy the rest of my weekend! :) Hats off to FIC Smog for always providing the best service and price. Highly recommend checking this place out, as I have lived in Encinitas my whole life and only go to FIC Smog. read more

Super easy. I called and made an appointment. I arrived on time and was done 20 minutes later. Sent my info to the DMV. Could not have been easier. Hardly had time to open my newspaper. read more

IF YOU HAVE A NEW BATTERY, drive your car 100 miles before getting a smog check!!!!!!! I brought my car in today and after running a 2 minute smog check on my car, they told me that my car had not passed. As they rang me up the $51.55, they asked if I had recently changed or purchased a new battery. Well, I had; the battery was replaced two days ago. They told me that smog tests can't read a car's smog levels if the battery has recently been replaced! I have no idea why there either no signage informing customers of this, or why they wouldn't stop the test as soon as they saw it wasn't passing, to ask me this, is beyond me. Then they told me it would be $30 to have them test it again, after I drive it for 100 miles! Beware. Most places don't charge anything to re-test. I would not take my car here again. read more

So a bit ago I was on a little San Diego vacation to meet up with my buddy. I was just looking through my pictures on my phone and these beautiful Ferrari's jogged my memory of this place :-) Seriously, I never encountered a smog shop with so much beauty...the cars...the eye candy that helped us...still remember his name and perfect hair, Joe :-) hmm...my smog is coming up can I do Nevada Smog in California?? Lol Okay, enough of memory lane let's move along to the nitty gritty. Joe was more than a handsome face with great hair, he was a absolute knowledgable sweetheart too. The customer service my friend received was wonderful. The service was fast and friendly. He even suggested things outside of his business. I enjoy people that generally care, no reason to give the suggestions other than to be helpful. I wish he would open up a spot in Las Vegas because he would get a repeat customer from me. He already created a repeat customer with my friend. End result, don't bother with other places. Reward the good people that treat you like family and not just another transaction. Kudos Joe, your customer service was so good I still remember it like it was yesterday :-) read more

Called same day for an appt & owner was able to get me in within 2 hours. Arrived a little early & owner already had my paperwork ready & filled out. I was in & out within 15 minutes. He was super nice & friendly. He has earned my business for sure! I love supporting our local businesses! read more

The owner is a very nice and straightforward man. He was able to fit me in on short notice. I couldn't recommend this place more highly. His prices are good & you deal directly with him. I think he finished in less than 10-15 minutes. No brainer to go here if you need a smog certificate. read more

This place is awesome. Highly recommended. Bryan is a really sweet guy, great conversation. I originally pulled up with a mis matching oil cap. He told me before charging me to replace it or it would not pass. A genuine human that deserves all the business. Go here! read more

For $59 - $10 new client coupon I got my smog check certificate. He was able to accommodate a same day appointment. Service was friendly and efficient. You have to keep driving down what looks like an alley to the back part of the shopping center. read more

I brought my RV early Saturday morning to smog for selling it. The buyers wanted to pick it up that day. I did not have an appointment but they took it in anyway-it passed just fine. I am usually very good about making appointments and I appreciate Fic for helping me out. I highly recommend that you do make an appointment with them as they get pretty busy on Saturday. read more

Called to set up an appointment and Bryan answered the phone. After going through available time slots, I chose to go with a mid morning appointment at 10:30 am. When I arrived to check in at the office, Bryan greeted me and took my registration to get the test started. As other reviewers have mentioned, it took approximately 20 minutes and Bryan came back to let me know he was just finishing up and I would be ready to go. The transaction was quick and efficient. I will definitely be back to get my smog test done here in the future. Service is very professional and genuine. read more

Waiting for a smog when you're broke is like waiting on biopsy results. I couldn't have chosen a better place. Friendly guy in the office comfortable seating area and clean restroom. I arrived late and he efficiently worked me in after respecting people who arrived on time. Thankfully my 87 vehicle passed, but if it hadn't I trust they did a good job within what they can do and wouldn't hesitate to return. I highly recommend. read more

So i made an appointment last minute which I appreciated. They do have a coupon for a smog online which i had downloaded and saved on my phone. When I got there, the guy said he wouldn't honor it unless it was printed out...can we say living in the dark ages?? He refused to give me the discount unless i had it printed, so I left. It really wasn't the money as it was only a $10 savings, but the fact that he wouldn't honor it made me leave and take my business elsewhere. In fact, I ended up going next door to another place that would honor their coupon even thoughI didn't have it printed, paid the same amount there. This place (fic) literally had zero customers and if they keep doing business this way, they're going to go out of business. A business that operates this way instead of saying "sure, no problem...we will honor that (even though I hadn't wasted paper and trees to print out a coupon that we were going to throw away), is a business that I'm not going to support. I'm also going to tell my friend in Encinitas not to go here. Bad business practices...just stupid. read more

This place is great. I was in and out in about 20 minutes, paid a reasonable price, and the guy there was so nice! Parking is a bit of a hassle as it is in the back of an alley, but totally worth it once you find it. read more

Quick service, clean place, but pretty disappointing he wouldn't honor new customer discount because I didn't "print" the coupon. The coupon does say should be printed in fine print to his credit, but I find this to be pretty lame. I won't be coming back. read more

Pros: quick, convenient location for me. Professional, the guy doing the test is the one who owns it. Doesn't try to suprlement with all sorts of other sales. You can make an appt. cons: small parking lot to get in/out of if you have a large vehicle, but managable. read more

If Brian is there, it's great. Good work, keeps appointment times, professional and very pleasant to work with - 5 stars for sure However -- Yesterday morning called for an appointment. Unfamiliar voice on phone, but made appt at 12:30. I arrived at exactly 12:30, parked and saw a truck being pulled into the service bay as I closed my car door. Long story short: no Brian, gruff, rude service person who acted as if there were no other smog testers in San Diego and thought it a good idea to argue with me about the meaning of honoring an appointment time. I left, walked in elsewhere and paid much less. No stars for sure. So -- if Brian is there, I highly recommend. Otherwise, go elsewhere. read more

Called at 2:15 to make an appointment. Got an appointment for 3:30. Arrived late at 3:40. Unbelievably, finished by 3:50. Passed without a tailpipe test because they have a new machine that gets data directly from the computer. $55 Amazing. I will return! read more
