I've came to FIC Smog for the past 8 years or so and I've never once had a problem. Every time I come I'm greeted with a friendly smile, exceptional service, and great communication. The cherry on top is that they're open on Saturday's which makes fitting in a smog check that much easier. I didn't even need an appointment and just dropped by. IF YOU HAVE A NEW BATTERY, drive your car 100 miles before getting a smog check!!!!!!! I brought my car in today and after running a 2 minute smog check on my car, they told me that my car had not passed. As they rang me up the $51.55, they asked if I had recently changed or purchased a new battery. Well, I had; the battery was replaced two days ago. They told me that smog tests can't read a car's smog levels if the battery has recently been replaced! I have no idea why there either no signage informing customers of this, or why they wouldn't stop the test as soon as they saw it wasn't passing, to ask me this, is beyond me. Then they told me it would be $30 to have them test it again, after I drive it for 100 miles! Beware. Most places don't charge anything to re-test. I would not take my car here again. read more

So a bit ago I was on a little San Diego vacation to meet up with my buddy. I was just looking through my pictures on my phone and these beautiful Ferrari's jogged my memory of this place :-) Seriously, I never encountered a smog shop with so much beauty...the cars...the eye candy that helped us...still remember his name and perfect hair, Joe :-) hmm...my smog is coming up can I do Nevada Smog in California?? Lol Okay, enough of memory lane let's move along to the nitty gritty. Joe was more than a handsome face with great hair, he was a absolute knowledgable sweetheart too. The customer service my friend received was wonderful. The service was fast and friendly. He even suggested things outside of his business. I enjoy people that generally care, no reason to give the suggestions other than to be helpful. I wish he would open up a spot in Las Vegas because he would get a repeat customer from me. He already created a repeat customer with my friend. End result, don't bother with other places. Reward the good people that treat you like family and not just another transaction. I brought my RV early Saturday morning to smog for selling it. The buyers wanted to pick it up that day. I did not have an appointment but they took it in anyway-it passed just fine. Called to set up an appointment and Bryan answered the phone. After going through available time slots, I chose to go with a mid morning appointment at 10:30 am. When I arrived to check in at the office, Bryan greeted me and took my registration to get the test started. So i made an appointment last minute which I appreciated. They do have a coupon for a smog online which i had downloaded and saved on my phone. When I got there, the guy said he wouldn't honor it unless it was printed out...can we say living in the dark ages?? He refused to give me the discount unless i had it printed, so I left. It really wasn't the money as it was only a $10 savings, but the fact that he wouldn't honor it made me leave and take my business elsewhere. In fact, I ended up going next door to another place that would honor their coupon even thoughI didn't have it printed, paid the same amount there. This place (fic) literally had zero customers and if they keep doing business this way, they're going to go out of business. A business that operates this way instead of saying "sure, no problem...we will honor that (even though I hadn't wasted paper and trees to print out a coupon that we were going to throw away), is a business that I'm not going to support. I'm also going to tell my friend in Encinitas not to go here. Bad business practices...just stupid. read more

Unfamiliar voice on phone, but made appt at 12:30. I arrived at exactly 12:30, parked and saw a truck being pulled into the service bay as I closed my car door. Long story short: no Brian, gruff, rude service person who acted as if there were no other smog testers in San Diego and thought it a good idea to argue with me about the meaning of honoring an appointment time. It sucks when you realize you need to get your car smogged to renew its registration. FIC made it must less of a hassle. 20 minutes while the professional staff tests your car and sends the certificate to the DMV electronically. Second time I taken my truck there and there will be a third time most likely. read more

The guy who owns this place is a complete A hole. Do not take your car to him. He smiles when you arrive but then its a total nightmare trying to deal with him. Good luck and go to somewhere else next door to him. Parking sucks and he will give you a bunch of excuses if your car does not pass. All he wants is his fee....stay away. read more
