I'd been avoiding a haircut since my last experience at a different place a few years ago was so bad, but the cut I got at Salon Namoo was actually way worse...possibly one of the worst I've ever gotten. I didn't get the name of the "stylist" since she didn't introduce herself, and I wouldn't publicly name and shame anyway. She was running behind due to wrapping up her previous customer, but I wasn't in a hurry so nbd. I showed her several inspo pix and said I understood they were different cuts, it was just to give a sense of the casual style with lots of volume and movement that I wanted, and I asked her to choose the elements she felt would fit my face best. First red flag was her saying I needed to choose a specific pic for her to follow, but I went with it and chose one that was very sort of beachy-messy-shaggy. Second red flag was her starting to cut the length without really comparing the two sides. My old stylist, two states away, would stop and pull the ends down on both sides of my face to check evenness in the mirror multiple times during a cut. This stylist glanced but my hair on my right was curving inward closer to my neck rather than hanging straight, and partway through the cut, I finally asked if the right side wasn't longer than the left. To her credit, she did check instead of blowing me off, and confirmed I was right. Now, I'm a middle aged woman who's gotten a fair number of quality, layered haircuts in my life, and as mentioned, my old stylist was as precise as could be (and did beautiful blowouts too...I miss her so much), so I wasn't feeling good about the cutting I was seeing. It looked kind of careless, and I wasn't seeing the kind of texturing I expected, but then she said she was going to blow it out and finish dry-cutting, so I tried to trust the process. Third red flag, she blew my hair out flat, including at the crown of my head. No volume. More trimming, and it looked flat and nothing like the pic (which she asked to see again multiple times throughout!). Then she announced she was done, and I must have made a surprised face, because then she said, do you want me to style it like the picture? Um, YES? How is that a question?? So she busted out a flat iron and proceeded to iron my already flat hair even straighter and smoother, but with weird little flips here and there on the last inch or so of the ends. (She was late for the appt after me as well.) She proudly showed me the back with the mirror and I just said ok so I could pay and leave. It was so bad that I felt embarrassed walking down the block to my car, and when I got home, my teen ran up with a look of mild horror mixed with concern and said, do you...like it? I said no and she gave a huge sigh of relief that I hadn't gone crazy. I immediately took a shower so I could restyle it myself, and when I did, I realized it wasn't only the length that had been uneven. Not only had my right side been longer, but there was more bulk left as well, so I gave myself a trim to even it out. If I had gotten the cut I wanted, I wouldn't be able to ponytail anymore, but since she didn't get anything about the proportions and texturizing right...I'm back in a ponytail just like before I wasted the money. And no, I didn't say anything beyond pointing out that the length wasn't even, because imo if you jack up my hair, why would I let you potentially make it even worse? Tl;dr...I showed a pic of a shaggy, beachy style, and walked out with helmet head like a blast from the 70's. One star for well-kept, clean, and convenient location near Bella Bottega and another for the very pleasant shampoo service.

She put a dirty towel that was on the dirty floor on my back and neck. I felt so grossed out. I was so shocked when this happened because I never thought it would be this dirty in a salon in Bellevue area. I thought I picked a good, reputable salon for hair color. She showed many unprofessional behaviors. The hair color result was not what I expected and I have been getting hair color at different salons for 20 years. (I changed hair stylist whenever I moved to near area in WA state. I often try to find a new hair stylist close to home or my work place.) I am not new to this process (hair coloring) at all. Normally I go to Aveda salon in other area and they were able to dye my hair from original black hair with grey hairs to lighter color in one visit without highlights. I told Mindy that I wanted the root to match the color that I had before. She said that she could do that but the color came out very dark, almost black. I could dye the hair myself dark color easily at home. The price for this was 200 dollars. -- Mindy argued that she had to dye my hair dark color to cover grey hair. My regular hair dresser at Aveda was able to turn my hair into beautiful lighter color and cover grey hair beautifully. -- I will have to go to my regular Aveda salon soon to get highlights to correct the color. -- Mindy was very talkative. She got frustrated at me because she said I moved my head a lot so I was trying to relax and not talk a lot to avoid moving my head. I didn't want to upset her. She showed that she was frustrated. However, Mindy kept asking questions unrelated to hair such as "Do you have a boyfriend?" and etc while she was washing my hair. She accidentally spit on my face a few times. She expected me to keep answering her questions even during the time she was washing my hair after she was frustrated that I moved my head, the experience was so uncomfortable for me. When I relaxed and didn't respond to answer her questions quickly, she said loudly so other customers and staff can heat that I must be frustrated with her. It was the weirdest experience I ever had at a hair salon. In 20 years that I have been getting hair color at salon, this is the first time, a hair stylist doesn't let me relax. I overheard she asked a male customer next to me about his romantic relationship and she told him to propose even when he said he wasn't ready. But Mindy started blaming me and told me that hair color on my skin was one of the marks I had on my face before hair coloring process. I don't have any abnormal mark on my face prior to this. Mindy also blamed that the towel she put on my back and neck fell off because I moved. (The towel was very dirty from the beginning. I am not even sure if it had been used with others before me.) I had to use a restroom to urinate since she left the hair color on me longer that it was supposed to be because she accepted other male customers who walked in for hair cut and perm. -- Mindy then deflected and started blaming me for scheduling an appointment with her, she said that she was kind enough to let me schedule an appointment on the same day. Then she had to take other walk-in customers and kept the color chemical compound on my hair longer than it was supposed to be?! It doesn't make sense at all. She was blaming me for supporting her small business. This is why this will be the one and only time I will do business with this salon. When I called her, it seemed like she didn't have any customer so she asked me to come in right away on Tues around noon. Then when other customers showed up, she was trying to get as many customers as possible and left the hair color on me longer than normal. Then she deflected and said she had been doing this for a long time. She knew hair. She said if I experienced hair loss, she would pay 500 dollars. SAD-- I don't want 500 dollars. I just wanted to have my hair color in a normal peaceful way. If you care about cleanliness and want a professional setting in hair salon, this might not be a place that you enjoy. I have been going to salons since I was in my early 20's because I have grey hair since I was young. Now I am almost 40. I never had issue with moving and causing a towel to fall from my neck.
