If you expect something very simple and cheap, then do not come here and complain. I do not do my hair often, but the stylist still remembers me and always provides options sincerely. Unlike other studios, the stylist never forced me to spend more money; instead, he stopped me and saved my money when I wanted to try something new, which would not fit good on me. They also always styled my hair whenever I'm done, unless I told them no because I was not going to anywhere. If you are planing to dye your hair, I will highly recommend this place. I have many friends had their hair done here, and the colors were lasting much longer than they were done in other places. Sometimes the stylist colors your hair in a different color, and that is because he knows the color you want will come in the best way after you wash your hair in the first few days. Note: *appointment is required, you can also try to call for the same day appointment. *parking is the visitors parking in the garage or street park.

The Good: The staff works well and does a good job…read more The Bad: You book an appointment online for a $100 touch-up. Once you are there, they ask whether you want a haircut as well. You say NO, and yet somehow you end up being charged $150--with a rather lame explanation for the extra $50. I have no problem with a business charging whatever it wants, and I understand that prices can change. But the price should be made clear before the service is performed. The moment I sat in that chair, if the price was going to be $150 instead of the $100 I booked, they should have told me. That is basic transparency. Instead, the higher price was presented to me at the end, as if I was supposed to simply accept it. Maybe some customers are too shy to challenge an unexpected charge, especially when a tip is also expected on top of it. For me, this is not about the extra $50. It is about trust and transparency. Once that trust is gone, I have no reason to come back. Lost my trust, and I will not be going back. Already contacted a new Hair Dresser for the next service, indicated by a friend and her price is $ 85.

5-Year Regular Customer Treated Like S--T by Owner "Ly" (Lee)…read more See my 5 Star Yelp review from June 2, 2023. Replace that with today's review from July 13, 2026 below. I have been getting my hair cut at Hair Excel for about 5 years. My nephew has been going here for about 20 years, so I decided to give it a try in 2023, since I live only two blocks away in downtown Mercer Island. I usually make an online appointment with the "next available" barber in the shop, because they are all very good, but today I had returned late in the day after running errands and decided to stop in for a quick haircut on my way home. I put my name on the sign-in roster, and sat down to wait. And wait. And wait. After waiting 30 minutes, watching a dozen men walk in after me and get promptly served by the 3 barbers working, I decided to leave. As a courtesy, I went to the desk to scratch my name off the sign-in roster. I found that my "completed" page of the roster had been tossed aside by Ly to the left of the register, with my name still open at the bottom of the sheet. He replaced my roster with the new "active" sign-in sheet which already had 4 names of men waiting, who were now ahead of me. Ly never called my name as he tossed my roster aside. He didn't recognize my name as a 5-year regular customer, so he didn't care who the last name on the list was. This demonstrates how little the owner of Hair Excel cares about his recurring source of income. I will never return to this shop due to Ly's condescending treatment.
