The worst haircut I've ever received. I hate to be this guy but I asked for one thing, "keep the length". The barber then immediately takes 4 inches off. WTF? Why bother asking people want they want? Why go through the pretense if you're just going to do what you feel like? It's just hair, it'll grow back, and it's not the end of the world. But save yourself the trouble and go somewhere that listens. I mean really, anywhere else but this place. One star is generous. read more

I usually am happy with simple haircuts here, but last time I was paired up with a Rosa, who is usually at the market location. Couldn't be worse. I asked not to give me a buzz cut. She shook her head and said she doesn't do scissor cuts. And then proceeded with the buzzer. Awedul haircut. Impolite, pushy barber. read more

I just moved back to SF from Nebraska. I needed a cut that could compare to what I was getting at my old barbershop. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at Fellow Barber. The pictures on Yelp don't give this place justice (as of 9/29). Ben gives an awesome cut. He can master any classic clip/trim job to perfection. read more

I was looking forward to my first haircut with Fellow. The only advice I would give to anyone trying a new place is..." make sure your professional understands what you asked for, gives recommendations about your hair and most importantly.....Listens. read more

First off $50-60for a haircut and no beverage. 2nd every barber I've went to I always choose senior barbers, yesterday had to the worst experience I've had I booked last min appointment with here with senior barber Jadea. Never got haircut from a female barber, but took chance. My initial first impression of her was good. On-time. Sat in the chair to consult my haircut showed her this haircut I seen on YouTube she looked the video for 2 seconds and giving her the details. She said to me, your taking to me like I can't cut her. News flash.. Your a senior barber your supposed to consult with client given your years of experience you should know that. At the end of the day haircut was ok, but not worth $60 Especially with no shampoo after and rush styling... This barber shop care more about the time and money And less about how the client. read more

I know finding a barber is hard in the city and I was having a tough time for a while until I started going to Lily. She has been cutting my hair for years and I always appreciate her work, and her time. She talked me through some processes when I was switching up my hairstyle and what I can expect and what I need to do. Love going to her, I can trust her with my hair and will keep going to her! read more

Jay did an amazing job and made me feel super comfortable. He must have sensed how nervous I was about trying a new place and the dramatic change I wanted done to my hair. I absolutely love how it turned out and will definitely come back again! One last note: Jay primarily cuts and styles hair for men, but you would have never guessed the way he transformed my hair into this fabulous new look. Thank you Judea (for hooking up my bangs and tips to keep them looking good). read more

Fellow Barber - Fabulous new look by Jay - Barbers Near Me - San Francisco, California

While waiting for a business meeting I found myself in the Mission (SF) next to Fellow barber. It was raining and I had an hour to kill. Fellow Barbershop looked warm and inviting, so I decided, it was a good time to get a hair cut. Being an antique dealer by trade, I was immediately struck by their authentic barber antiques. Including original turn of the century backbar and double pedestal art deco sink. I commend whoever curated the authentic decor. You can tell a lot of thought and consideration was put into building the shop with respects to the history of Barbering . I choose the Junior Barber Service. With the understanding they are newer barbers and hoping it would be a longer service, to keep me out of the rain. My barber was Danielle. She was professional, polite and very easy to talk to. We discussed the antique decor and traditional barbering. I was impressed with her knowledge and passion. As we settled into the cut I closed my eyes and just relaxed. I think Danielle sensed this and allowed me to close my eyes with minimal conversation. There was none needed. Her gentle, confident touch let me know she knew what she was doing. I just sat back and enjoyed the pleasure of a good cut. When Danielle was done, I felt refreshed, restored and shiny like a new penny! I would recommend Fellow Barber and Danielle in particular, if you need to feel refreshed, rejuvenated and looking your best. Before I left I set up a reoccurring appointment. I walked out, the clouds parted , the rain stopped, and the sun peeked out. I felt like a million bucks! It was exactly what I needed on a gloomy day . I look forward to my next visit. P.S. If I had one critique it would be that your barber pole outside is not working. It would nice to see that old pole spin. read more

I found Fellow Barber about 6 months ago! Have had haircuts from Rebecca and now Jay! All I can say is dang my hair is flossin' in a way it never has! I've looked around and all the people there seem to know what they are doing. Haven't seen a bad haircut come out of there. Seriously I highly recommend! Hot towel for your face after you are done too! read more

Today, I am busy trying to finish up business and pack before leaving for Ireland tomorrow at 5am. I tried several barber shops in my neighborhood as I needed a very fast tidy up. I had it cut a week ago. but none could see me as a walk in. I has never been to Fellows as knew was expensive, but needs must. I walked in to an empty barbershop with only one chair busy and was greeted warmly by a lady. I had no idea of her role and I asked for quick cut. I missed the gentleman behind the check in desk. My first error and the was made feel it as he checked me in and passed me back to the lady. I was seen immediately. I explained I literally had 15 minutes max and understood that she could only do the best she could, in the time I allowed so I am not even going to mention the quality of the cut. i wanted a quick short back and sides. Nothing fancy. I declined the wash, the hot towels etc The cutter was a lovely lady from Thailand which (and maybe I'm traditional ) but I prefer more traditional male ish barbers in a barber shop. I was in the chair 12 minutes. Yes, I timed it. I thanked the lady and went to the 'desk" I almost fell over when the man said $62.50 I am writing this not because I didn't pay it, but because it was a total rip off. Then I was firmly put in my place by the really (what I felt) rather superior check in gent when yet again I was made to feel I was wrong "this is a high end salon" he told me. Since when does high end mean 'rip off' I have been in a lot of barber chairs over the past 55 years and really I have never felt such bad value for money and really I left feeling 'ripped off'. An ordinary 'clean up' as she called it at ridiculous 'con ' like prices. I would have been grateful for an obvious charge menu. At least I would have been forewarned .Yes, I did look for one, as I didnt have much money on me and was expecting something in the region of $40. At $62.50 I would expect a real barber shop not a fancy salon posing as one. Sorry to the lady for the lack of tip. I just couldn't . I went to the $14 dollar salon down the block the week before as was stuck again, where they do not speak english (I doubt speak spanish) and honestly I came out feeling I would go back. Not because of the price but because was treated with respect, regardless of the language barrier. More than I got at fellows read more

This review is for Chang: Absolutely one of the best barbers I've ever had. I tried out 4-5 different guys for shaves and hair cuts, and I eventually found Chang. Extremely friendly, takes his time yet is speedy, and makes sure every customer is treated right. I see him anywhere from 1-3 times a month and highly recommend him. Chang is amazing. That's still the same. I've decreased the rating because the management is so sketchy. I understand people come in late, hair cuts take longer than expected, but don't change my appointment time and act like the appointment was supposed to be later. read more

15 minutes, in and out, Venmo card in your face to tip, mediocre cut. Very disappointed. How did this place go downhill so much.

This review is for Michael, who you should ABSOLUTELY book to cut your hair! TL/DR: Usually hate haircuts but Michael is so damn talented at cutting hair and so accommodating with his customers that I genuinely look forward to getting a trim. Let this man line you up!!!! I should start by saying that I've always been a little particular about haircuts, because I've had my fair share of bad ones and because my hair is harder to deal with now that it's thinning. When I moved to the bay area, I decided to give Fellow Barber a shot. I tried a couple different barbers before I met Michael, who is an absolutely rockstar with the shears. Despite being a self proclaimed introvert, he is a natural conversationalist who will put you at ease with his ability to relate and engage with his patrons and with his amazing talent for cutting hair (seriously, you're in great hands- wish I knew how to link a picture to show you guys). Furthermore, he goes to great lengths to understand what it is that YOU want in a haircut, and he actually honors your request (you'll never have to worry about him lopping off too much when you tell him "just an inch", for example). Generally it takes me a couple days to get used to a trim, but Michael does such a great job following/understanding the natural waves/curves of hair when doing his thing that I always feel like a million bucks when he's done. He's also as great/genuine of a guy as he is a barber, which as anyone who's had a haircut by him can tell you is REALLY saying something. Upon discovering that I couldn't book with him before needing to travel (he wasn't available), I reached out to Michael in the off-chance that he could squeeze me in super early on the day of my flight. He immediately responded back to accommodate my request, even though he wasn't even on the clock that early. He's just THAT great of a guy. If you couldn't care less about getting a good haircut, maybe you should look elsewhere. But if you're curious how a person like me who used to dread going to the barber now actually looks forward to it, do yourself a huge favor and ask for Michael Pettit. You'll never want to get your haircut by another barber again. read more

Hygiene is the differentiating factor. The charges are high. For example - A haircut is twice that of a regular barber charges. Service is the same except the hygiene factor. If the regular barber has the same hygiene then fellow barber is not my choice. Moreover, they have weird rules. You have to be in the shop 15 minutes prior to your appointment or you might be charged. On the other side, they waste 15 minutes of time owing to delay on their side. No penalty on that side. Whose time is more valuable - Customer's or their's ? Anyhow, not my choice. read more

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE!!! If you like over-priced haircuts from the greenest, mostly inexperienced haircutters, go ahead and piss your hard-earned cash, not to mention valuable TIME at this wannabe hipster barbershop. I stupidly sat for three overly-long, completely below basic $55-$65 haircuts in a row, my mother say's I "never learn!" I should have gone two blocks up and over to Mission street for a much better $15-$25 haircut. The customer service here is non-existent, Mackenzie, the manager wasted so much of my time booking me with even less-experienced barbers than the last time and didn't follow through or even care that I was completely unhappy with my half-assed haircuts. Needed a do-over (twice) because I was not at all happy with the finished look, the barber never once turned me to the mirror, only barely at the end when I was rushed out after almost 85 minutes of sitting there. It's not the barber's fault, they are thrown on the floor without any additional training. DO YOURSELF A SOLID AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!! This operation has no interest in the satisfaction of it's customers or the quality of their barbers haircuts, they just want your money. read more

Sean Lomeli gives the best cuts. Period. I've tried barbers all over San Francisco, and Sean has consistently given me the best, and longest lasting cuts I've ever had. It's evident that Sean takes pride in his craft, as he is considerate enough to ask relevant questions regarding your maintenance preferences and other lifestyle factors that inform him on how best to approach the cut. Furthermore, he is knowledgeable about product, and can teach you about all manner of technicalities related to his field. It's always a pleasure to sit in his chair. He is kind, unpretentious, and a great listener. Don't settle for any ol' Joe; you deserve a quality cut... and a hot towel. read more

I never write reviews on here but I just had the BEST experience here so I need to rave about it! M took great care to give me exactly the style I was looking for - they checked in with me multiple times throughout the cut and gave me some styling tips to achieve the look at home. They were super duper friendly, easy to talk to, and all around provided a great experience and a great cut! I had a really bad experience with Lily Mai. She gave me an uneven haircut, and when I asked her to even out the sides, she became increasingly annoyed and hostile with me. It made me feel really awkward and uncomfortable. She was visibly upset and impatient. She insisted that I tip her, even after she was really rude and curt during our interaction. This has been the worse barber experience that I've ever had. I'm still processing the terrible experience, that made me feel very uncomfortable. And after all of this, I still walked out of the shop with an uneven haircut. read more

Overall just a disappointing experience. I'm not sure what the purpose of having an appointment was if the shop will simply keep you waiting for a longer period of time than the actual haircut itself with barely an acknowledgement or explanation from the staff. Had an appointment at 12:10pm, wasn't seated until 12:45, and finished with the haircut 25 minutes after that. For a place that branded itself as more of a higher end spot, I would have expected a better service experience than this. read more

Wow! Vu is my man. He does his best at turning my disheveled mess of a face into something less repulsive to look at with his magic cuts. You will not be disappointed. Yes, this place may be a little more than Super Cuts, but you get what you pay for. He doesn't run a FlowBee over my head like the little old lady at SC used to. Their online booking system is easy as pie. Don't be fooled by other dummies stating troubles with this or long lines. I've booked at this location a dozen plus times as well as in NYC when I was there and never have had issues. Thanks Vu, Fellow Barber, and the crew for all that you do. read more

This might be of the only Yelp reviews I've written. Fellow Barber regularly reschedules my appointment same-day and I am always flexible with them. This week I called letting them know I would be 10 minutes late and was told that it was fine. I arrived 11 minutes late and was in line behind two others to check-in so add a minute or two. After driving across town through rush hour traffic I was told I was booked as a "no-show". No follow-up call from Fellow Barber or anything. Last time I'm going there. Prices are also way too expensive for what you get. A joke. Forget it. read more

I brought a photo of David Lynch and his great hair style. By the time I left you could've thought I was really him. Probably this is because of the shape of my nose but mostly it's because of the great haircut I got. There must be insane demand for a decent barber cut in this town. Guys literally line up for this shop. Fellow Barber pumps out haircuts as fast as they are able to sign them up. There are 6-8 chairs if I remember correctly and they're always full. I think this shop is another business to fall under the "victim of their own success" category. I called and was informed that it would be a 2 hour wait with 45 people ahead of me. "2 hour wait?! Do you take appointments?" "No, sign up at the counter, and that's how it works." "Can you put me on the list, and I'll hop in the car right now?" "No, sorry can't do that." Listen Fellow Barber, if you have that type of demand, then you really need to start taking appointments, so you're not wasting your time and mine. That's my take. Nobody in their right mind wants to wait around 2 hours for a haircut. This is not Space Mountain at Disneyland. Not only that, parking is a nightmare in this neighborhood, so don't expect convenience. They're definitely doing the whole old-timey, handcrafted, hipster thing. And I get it. Dudes want that. Yet, a barber cut should not cost $50 with tip. This is not a stylist. I wasn't even offered a beer at this price, which seems to be standard among other shops in this vein. The cut was not bad, and they were nice. Yet, I've gotten the same haircut out of a smaller legit barber shop for $20 and that includes the tip, with a vastly shorter wait time. I'm giving them 2 stars because of the decor. They have awesome antique wooden barber shelves lining one wall. Has bare-breasted masthead carvings with the nipples rubbed down. Apparently the sailors would rub them for good luck before shipping out. The antique chairs are pretty sweet too. But let's face it, business is business. read more

This place is absolutely marvelous. Loved the design, cleanliness, and vibe of the place. Pablo, the front desk/manager (I think), started me off by warmly welcoming and checking me in. He also chatted with me for a bit, which made me feel like a valued customer. And then Luis cut my hair the way I exactly wanted it. He was very helpful in giving me suggestions about styling my hair. Highly recommend this place! Will come back! read more

Came in after reading some initial good reviews. However, I never did get a chance to have a haircut. I go into the shop, there are three barbers, all with customers in their chairs. The guy at the counter told me it was a 15 minute wait for one of the chairs to free up. Reasonable, I thought. One of the gentlemen, a tatooed latino hipster, finished up with his customer within about 10 minutes. He disappeared for a few minutes then returned, spending the next ten minutes trimming his beard, oblivious or ignoring the fact that he had someone waiting to get a haircut. I walked out deciding to look for a barber that doesn't ignore their customers. read more

I've been to Fellow Barber about 6 times since moving right around the corner and I must recommend: do NOT go there. First, I've been trying to 'sell' myself that the $50 price tag for a very mediocre haircut from a virtually inexperienced barber was 'OK' since the place seems so cool. But it's not. My last cut there was awful and the barber (can't remember his name) was only 6 weeks into his professional career. But the worst part was today. I recently broke my leg and it's very difficult to get around... So I called there to ask a favor if they could put me in the list without having me take two trips down and up my stairs which is tiring and dangerous. The told me to make an appointment online.. Which I tried 3 times (and it says in the site their system is invest and might not work) so I called back and said 'hey, I've got a broken leg, your online system ain't working, can you do me a face and just sign me in now... I've been there a bunch and I'll definitely show up'. The girl, Jessica, said 'sorry we can not do that'. Huh.... Some neighborhood barber in the mission. The bad haircuts at crazy high prices are one thing.... But the lack of humanity and compassion for an injured patron and neighbor just makes me feel that this place stinks. Don't go.... There are many others around that still give great haircuts AND know how to treat people.... Todd Jason read more

These guys butchered my hair. I feel like crying, it's that bad. I've recently moved to SF and needed to find a good barber close-by. I read enough reviews of this place and got the impression that they are good and their waiting system isn't. So I walked in on a thursday afternoon and got an appointment. After I got up from the chair, I was stunned. Seriously this guy waved the scissors and the trimmer like he was chopping wood or fighting zombies. "Can I get a haircut tonight?" Response: "Sure! Come on down!" We leave right away and when we get there: "I'm sorry we're all booked up for this evening!" Smoke and mirrors... F.S.C. seems to have allot of happy customers/clients/regulars. The place is always jamming. They've got fancy mirrors from the 1800's, barber chairs from the 1920's, and hip folk to chop off your scraggly. The location is excellent. Unfortunately, I just wasn't that blown away by the service. The gal who cut my hair did a decent job in the end but her lack of experience was evident (she told me so). The hot towel at the end was quite nice. Long story short, a good barber is hard to find. There are likely some good barbers/stylist/whathaveyou at F.S.C. but their customer service mentality is shitty. That's something I just can't fox with. read more

After a few successful visits came in today, asked to make an appointment with my favorite barber. Guy in front desk said he starts only 90 minutes from now, and they take reservations only 1 hour before the barber starts. Since I was already there, I asked if I can go, and call in 30 minutes. Answer? No! Why? they want to give everybody a fair chance. WOW - a fair chance! I thought this place is about getting a haircut, not getting into college, controlled housing or health benefits. But no, apparently we all have to be equal in front of the haircut god. I will take my business elsewhere, they can keep their attitude. I guess suckers don't die read more

The only good part of this experience was the booking online and not waiting once I was there. Adam, who I was assigned to, was in his own world for the most part-- talking to other barbers. Occasionally he'd check in with me about what I wanted-- and when I asked for something specific (like going tighter on the sides) he responded with "if I did that, I'd have to redo the whole thing" and then suggested we not bother. I asked him to do a line up on the sides which I like too, he said no. The good part was the hot towel on the back after he did a fade and sprayed some refreshing mist. For supercuts, this haircut is average to decent. For $50 at Fellow Barber-- this hair cut is crap. Some parts are not even shaped right, I see indentations where there shouldn't be. It's way too short on the top and longer on the sides which makes my whole head look hey arnold-y. There was no shampoo and styling even though I told him I was on my way to my company holiday party. I asked for some hair paste and Adam slapped some on my hair-- I went straight to the bathroom to wash the excess off and redo the styling. read more

If you can't even get a customer in the chair for more than an hour after their designated time, you fail at barbering. I see now that this is not uncommon from the other reviews here. I was really looking forward to my first visit here. I went with two friends to get straight razor shaves (two of us) and a "hangover remedy" (one of us). We stopped off yesterday morning well in advance at 11:30am and they told us to come back at 1 pm that day. So far so good, right? When we came back, right on time at 12:55 my two friends waited a bit but got taken care of. I waited and waited while they got done, checking in with the desk person every once in a while. He told me that since only a few of their barbers did straight razor shaves, there might be a wait. OK, I can live with that. Then both the staffers finished up working on my friends and left for lunch! This was after I had been waiting for a full hour after my 1pm time slot. Why would you dismiss two of the few barbers present that day who could do straight razor work, when you knew you had someone waiting for that for more than an hour past their time? Incompetence. When I asked what was going on, the guy at the desk apologized for the delay but that was it. My friends were done and ready to go, so we bailed. The desk guy did nothing - didn't offer to make another appointment, didn't say when the few staffers who did shaves would be back, didn't even offer a 5 dollar discount if I came back. Nothing. The one star is for completely incompetent management of work flow and staff and failing to handle a simple problem with any sort of customer service skill. This is fine if you're a trust fund kid with nothing else to do all day but for me such poor service tells me they don't care enough about their customers to hire a competent manager. I've managed high end service departments in Manhattan and Los Angeles, and I know mistakes happen, but if you screw up like this the least you can do is offer your customer a bit of a discount or a little freebie to show them you care, especially when you know for a fact the customer is a first timer. read more

Seeing that they're open from 9-9pm and take walk-ins only, I rolled in around 7:15pm thinking I'd put my name on the list, and definitely get a haircut today. "Sorry, we're all booked this evening." "So, should I call ahead before I leave work?" "No, we don't take names over the phone. Do you live around here?" "Not really..." "Well you can call to see how busy we are, and come down when we're light..." "So, I should call every day this week before I leave work, and when you're a little light one day, come down and hope for the best?" "Exactly, that would be great!" This isn't rocket science, this is host operations. There are thousands of restaurants in this city. Find one that does it well and copy their system. I don't mind waiting, or having to put my name on a list hours before I get in, because at least that eliminates uncertainty. The amount of business they are losing because they aren't spreading their demand across their non-peak times or maximizing their capacity is probably astounding. Awful. Please update your process to take reservations just like Baxter Finley in LA. Now I have to find a new spot because I refuse to have a haircut become this difficult to get. read more
