The only thing going for this spot is the price. When I saw it, I thought it was too good to be true. Aaaaand it was. I showed him a photo of what I was going for and he seemed confident and at the beginning it did seem to be going in the right direction. And although an argument could be made that he got 70% of the way there - no one wants to wear a C- haircut. When he said he was done I had to point out that one of my sides had a trapezoid shape while the other side had a fade. He corrected it in the chair but it bothered me that he was going to let me walk out like that. I also asked for a little off the top but I had a feeling that he took more but the layering of my hair did a good job of hiding it. Didn't realize it until I washed my hair and started styling on my own that his method had made more obstacles for me... it's been a week and a half and more imperfections keep showing up. I take The Caltrain from Menlo Park there to get my haircut. The cost is super reasonable and I'm in San Francisco often, but even on my days off I will come into the city when I need my haircu. My hair's already short and I don't have to pay someone $40 and listen to a life lesson from a stylist. Of the three people there, I prefer the two women, they leave me some hair with a little style and not so sandpaper harsh when cutting as the one gentleman. However I often observe many men and women patronizing there who seem to be very satisfied, including me since "2016". read more

I usually get my hair cut here by the woman (with brown dyed hair) so I can't comment on any of the other hair stylists, but I've been happy every time. They know how to cut Asian hair, which tends to be very straight and thick. Just be patient and show them photos of exactly how you want your hair to be cut. It's nearly impossible to find places that charge the prices they do, so tip and support your local businesses. At the end of the day, it's an $18 haircut and I've been more than satisfied with the haircuts I've gotten here considering the price. read more

This is a mum and pop barber that does not try to be fancy but focus on what they are good at. Precise and cheap haircuts! They charge 14$ which is pretty much unbeatable in SF. They advertise a kids haircut for $18 and that is what they delivered. Be prepared to have to sort of convince them though if you want a toddler cut. They were very hesitant and the older man didn't want to do the cut and passed the work on to the older woman. When I showed her a picture she said she didn't know if she could do that cut. So I scrolled through some more trying to find a style that the stylist was comfortable with and she seemed very uncomfortable with all options. I finally asked what type of hair cut did she feel comfortable with and she just said to tell her if we wanted short or very short. I had to show her pics of my son's previous two haircuts to calm her down and convince her that he had haircuts before. It was a lot of work getting her comfortable. But in the end she cut his hair and while it was not professional; luckily he is cute enough to pull it all off! read more

Quite disappointed with my haircut... First time I went, I had the woman cut. She was nice and friendly, but lacked attention to detail. There were plenty of spots that were kind of missed, and the fade was not straight. This was overall a mediocre but ok experience given the price and no wait. The second time I went, I figured I'd try the man. I told him to give me a fade that goes straight up, ensuring that it doesn't lean inward. He acknowledged, but blatantly disregarded the instructions on both sides. I warned him and told him not to cut too close multiple times, but he'd acknowledge and continue... I also told him not to cut the top, but he said it was too long and cut anyway. I told him if he cuts, just cut a tiny tiny bit, but he took off ~3/4", much more than my sides. This ruined my perm and makes my hair incredibly difficult to style now... When I told him the fade was pointed inward, he told me it wasn't while looking from the side where he couldn't even see it. Overall, extremely disappointed. I guess you get what you pay for, but when I've gone to affordable barbershops in other cities, I've never had such bad experiences. read more

I am a man with a particular tatse. I got a haircut from Yen and she was very kind. There were some challenges communicating with her as it seems like English is not her first language but it made difference on how EXCELLENT my haircut was! Let me tell you folks follow these steps and you will get a great affordable haircut. 1) Find pictures of haircuts you want with other people that have similar hair 2) Show Yen what the photos 3) Sit back while she masterfully cuts your hair It was honestly as easy as that and only $15 dollars. This place is wonderful, great cuts and a mom and pop place. I have been going for decades, and occasionally go to a "snooty place". My friends could not tell the difference between the "snooty" and Great Image cuts... They are not chatty, which I find peaceful. The cost has gone up to @ $18.00 a cut. I've been to this place a few times! Definitely an easy place to miss since it has a small storefront and there is so much going on at that intersection of 16th and Mission! Basically, I come here because they provide a quick, affordable ($13) and simple haircut. I've never had to wait so far, they usually have two people cutting hair (I got at around 9 am). And they take about 10 - 15 minutes to cut your hair. I've been to more expensive haircutting place that don't cut as well or cut just as well as this place. So that's why I enjoy coming here. This place is perfect! Let's be honest, there are plenty of us in the world who just need a good haircut, not an amazing, jaw dropping work of art. I've been going there for 3 years and they've always done a nice job. Sometimes it's not quite as polished and clean as I'd like but what the hell it grows out in a matter of days and looks great. Literally a hole in the wall, blink and you will miss it. This place is kinda grimy right in the thick of the multi cultural 16th and Mission. Haircuts are currently $11. I've never had a "bad" haircut here. It looks family run by a sweet little Asian family, the older guy works well with what you want done to your hair. Very no frills, most folks would be scared just by the aesthetics of the environment...yes its 16th & Mission so expect colorful characters to drop in and out, whenever I'm a bit broke or just need a slight trim on the coif, I won't hesitate to hit this place up. You don't pay for theater: their years of skill development has them cutting hair with the most efficient approach. There is no interior decorator. No cool people sitting around. You pay for results: my hair sucks. A lot is gone, and the remaining thick areas have a bad cowlick. They have no problem with that. Great Image Salon doesn't pretend it is anything more than it is - $10 for a haircut, $5 for a beard trim. There is usually a man and a woman working, and I've found that he is by far the better barber, at least when it comes to my head. The $5 beard trim is a steal, and while not a straight razor shave, it's better than using my clippers at home to groom my facial hair. $10 haircut + $5 beard trim + $5 tip = cheapest good haircut I've found in The City, hands down. read more

A very simple salon on Mission St right next to the McDonalds across the BART. You can either chose from the elder man or woman, I went with the man. Told him what I wanted, and was done within 15 minutes. It costed $10 which is a great deal in SF since most places charge an average of $20 a cut. read more

Tian and Yan are the best barbers ever! I have been coming here since 2005! Gotta pay close attention to their spot though! They are tucked away on the grimy corner of 16th and Mission but nevertheless a great location! I live in Oakland and love coming here on a Friday evening after work. (they're open till 6:30 or 7pm) I usually hit up a taquería or bar for happy hour afterwards. The price is gotta be the best in all of the Bay Area! $10! Can't beat that! Even with my round trip ticket back to dwntwn Oakland, this is still a great deal. Also these two people are my friends and we always chat. Terrible. The lady who works here couldn't even trim my hair correctly. After two sprays from a spray bottle she attempted to take an inch off the bottom. It was visibly very uneven as she missed large sections. I had to get my hair wet at home and attempt to correct. I regret going here. read more

Loved it. Went there today on the recommendation of a friend and got a great cut. I had been going to Win's Hair Design when I am in town but they cannot decide if they want to open or not and when and they won't answer the phone. Tian and Yan have been there 35 years so they know about haircuts. It is a no frills place hole in the wall in the Mission and they are open 7 days. They were friendly and I was happy when I left.
