Blue cheese "dressing?" More like purée.
Meredith S.

So I am always down to give a local place another chance, (especially one that has been a local's favorite for years), but I m finally done with Fellini's. It's been several years since our last visit (which was just as bad), but they are still in business, so surely something has changed for the better right? Well not really. I hate to give a one star review, I really do. I always think maybe it's an off night, I give them another opportunity to shine, but in this case, Fellini's continues to disappoint. We stopped in early on a Friday night because we had an event to go to. The place was nearly empty and we were seated immediately. All good. It's still as beautiful inside as it has always been, though the booths are very worn and have gotten uncomfortable. I had the Spinach and Pasta, because apparently I am a glutton for punishment. The menu describes it as fresh spinach, sautéed in butter, olive oil and roasted garlic served over fettuccine. Where was that? What I got was watery pasta that hadn't been drained and tasteless spinach. Where was the butter olive oil and roasted garlic? I did see ONE sliver of garlic in the dish, but it was nowhere near roasted. It was raw. Just flavorless. My side salad with blue cheese dressing? I don't know that I would call it dressing really, as it was more a clump of blue cheese in something (see pic), nothing creamy about this. Luckily I am a big fan of blue cheese, so the taste was fine, but the consistency was off. Hubby had the Manicotti, which is kind of hard to mess up. I mean throw a ton of cheese on top and bake it. It was at least edible, though the sauce was on the sweet side. He also had a Ceasar, which was way overdressed. The kid and his girlfriend are big Angel hair fans, so he ordered the Angel hair with marinara and sausage. Again with the sweet sauce. But the sausage literally was tasteless (I tried it) and he didn't eat it. Girlfriend ordered Pasta Romano, which the menu describes as Angel hair pasta with a 2 cheese cream sauce "baked to perfection." Well no, not really. The server did warn when she ordered it, that it was more like a casserole, which was OK. What was NOT OK was how so very dry it was. How about throw some sauce or something in there before baking? I didn't take pics of the kids' food as I was too busy literally pouring the water out of my dish into a salad bowl (which it almost filled). I'm sorry, but goodbye Fellini's. You used to be amazing once upon a time and we used to frequent you. But I just can't anymore. I could have made every dish we had tonight at less than half the cost of our meal...and made it edible. 4 dinners - 2 barely touched, 2 half eaten. When the server asked if we wanted boxes, I almost laughed. But to be fair, the service was good. We won't be back.

Went here as a work gathering; the workers were happy to accomadate such a large size party. They made sure we all had seats and tables together. The restaraunt interior was very unique. Its theme was "home" on the back of the menu had the story of how the owner wanted to give customers a home feel with a home cooked meal to make them feel like they were just at home. It had house lamps, cool jazzy pictures hang up all around, nice dimmed down lights. I love Italian food! I ordered the Rigatoni Pasta which I was not disappointed with (I added my own paramasan cheese all over for an extra kick) It had a light creamy sauces over the noodles, thick slices of italian sausages, and zuchinii! All really good My entree came with a side salad as well

Admittedly, I have not fully explored our options when it comes to pizza delivery in the 757. I've heard great things about places further out, but being in Norfolk, was keen to try something outside our usual Cogan's. Enter, Fellini's. We were having a few friends over for dinner and had some other appetizers, so thought a large pizza would suffice. We underestimated our hunger, or overestimated the pizza size. It was disappointingly small. The crust was good, light and crisp (I prefer thin crust) but the toppings and cheese itself was overly salty. I probably wouldn't order again, but it was decent enough to hit the spot for something salty and greasy.

I like this restaurant, always good service. Nice appetizers (I recommend the bruschetta or mussels), but would come here for the pizza. I suggest getting double dough for any of the gourmet pizzas that have heavy toppings.

Came here with a large group for work and I was a little (fashionably) late. Our waitress was good, but kept asking for my order every other minute after trying to settle in and look at the menu. Was going to order a sandwich and salad, but the sandwich I wanted didn't come in that pairing. Would be nice to have that noted on the menu already. Ended up ordering the manicotti. It was alright, not much though. Could've afforded a little more inside stuffing. Also tried the calamari, which I loved with the sauce that they had. The complimentary garlic bread was a no. The restaurant itself is a little dark and has random pictures all around. Also, not a lot of parking. Overall, just not really impressed enough to visit again.

Ordered the Greek salad, as we have for many years, and unfortunately found multiple hairs in it.

The space is intimate and cozy with side-by-side counter seating right in front of the open kitchen -- perfect for watching the chefs at work and adds to the whole experience. We started with the ensalata di Luce and it was fresh and flavorful, a great balance to the rich mains. The pollo con strati was perfectly cooked and the lobster gnocchi was phenomenal -- rich, indulgent, and definitely worth ordering a side of sourdough bread for dipping in the sauce! To finish, the cheesecake with berries was a delightful end to the meal -- creamy and just sweet enough without being heavy. Service was attentive without being intrusive and the ambiance complemented the food beautifully. This place is small and fills up fast, so reservations are a very good idea, but snagging a seat at the counter made our night feel special and lively. Overall -- truly one of the best Italian meals in Norfolk if you're looking for great food, a cozy atmosphere, and a memorable dinner. Always my fave & we will definitely be back!

I was told that there was no availability for the evening and I should try to walk in for bar seats. Upon arrival, the bar was not busy so we took three seats and noticed that the table behind us never got sat the entire time we were there. To me, this is a pretentious restaurant that falls below the bar in every way. Second time dining here and would not return because service from Branice C. was a C- in her caring that she was even at work, to the upcharges for extra marinara sauce to go with the greasy overbreaded calamari appetizer. The oil saturated flavor was almost nauseating. Please change the oil in your fryer! Prices were not excessive but the upcharge for using a credit card was. Who really walks around with $300 cash in pocket to pay for dinner without a credit card fee. JUST ADD IT IN YOUR MENU PRICES!!!! The Boar Ragu was truly not boar but probably run of the mill ground beef and the four tiny slices of steak on the Caesar salad was a joke. There are so many other lovely restaurants along this block that this is a skip right past for the future.

We started out with the Cesar Salad and an order of the Meatballs as an appetizer. They were kind enough to split the salad for us and without having to ask, always a nice touch. The Cesar Salad was delicious, the ingredients were fresh and the croutons were clearly made in house. The meatballs were flavorful and tender. They were served with a dollop of whipped Ricotta and a generous amount of marinara, the basil sprig was also a welcome addition. Everything worked well together and we enjoyed the dish. We also split the Rigatoni Bolognese and again they split the order for us. It was served piped hot and it was delicious. The décor is really interesting, as it has a secret dining room behind a bookcase and all of it is beautifully assembled. Menu is decent, with many typical Italian favorites. Starting with their arancini, it was decent. The temperature was warm, but not as hot as it should've been considering we expected it to be freshly fried, plated, and served. The jam under it was a little too sweet as well, but the texture and flavors were decent. Next up was their Cesar salad. This was my starter salad and it was quite substantial. The lettuce was great - very fresh and crunchy! The dressing was excellent, clearly made in-house and it was so very tasty. The combo of both was excellent! Lastly, I chose their chicken marsala for my entrée. It was plated quite nicely, looking very tasty. The chicken was breaded and appeared lightly fried, as the batter flaked off. The sauce was a little too sweet compared to my liking... I realized that marsala wine is sweet, but this might have been reduced or sweetened a little too much. The greens were inedible - they were way too vinegary. I took one bite and choked trying to swallow it down. Their crispy smashed potatoes were very nicely done. Overall, this entrée was just 'ok' but nothing special, which I found disappointing, as I could have ordered a pasta instead. Service for our dinner was nice and friendly. Prices are on the high end for the quality of the food preparation, which is also disappointing. So, over the past couple of months I've been to Norfolk twice and last time ate at Saltine downstairs in this Hilton and this time ate upstairs at Varia and both menus are amazing, service was adequate, and execution was lackluster - This tells me their food program is poorly managed. I left out the review of my dinner guest's pizzas... They eat got a pizza and each was completely over-cooked!!! I like char'd crust on brickoven pizza, what I saw (and what they explained) wasn't a simple char, it consisted of hard, over-cooked cheese and toppings and frankly if I got either of those pizzas, I would've sent it back. Given the absolute beauty of these eateries and amazing menus, they need to work on the management component and they'll have truly amazing joints, but not until then.
