In my search for someone to install vinyl tile flooring I called Dale Swirsding at Swirsding's Floor Service. It turns out he only does wood floors. For vinyl flooring he referred me to Felix. "He's your guy," he said. Felix came out and quickly demonstrated his competence. He immediately told me how much flooring to buy, something my husband and I had trouble figuring out. After the flooring arrived, he and his helpers took about five days to remove several layers of old flooring from the kitchen, smooth & level the wood underneath, install the new vinyl tiles and new baseboards. They did a great job! They were pleasant, tidy and very hard working. I appreciated the fact that Felix explained what he was going to do every step of the way. As a woman, I have sometimes been bullied, condescended to or ignored by male workers. This never happened with Felix; I trusted Felix him felt comfortable around him and his workers. We needed to install roll vinyl flooring in two bathrooms. Felix was recommended, and his communications were good and reliable. He came out to do the job, and finished in one long day. This included removing both toilets, and then resetting and caulking them after the installation. The floors were done with great precision - they look fantastic. The only downside is that he is rather expensive, but it is hard to find anyone who has this skill level. read more

Felix gets one star for being nice however, he should not be doing hardwood floors. I also got Felix's name from Dale but now wonder if Dale has seen his work. He did four floors for us in May. We paid him even though we couldn't go into the house for two more days. Once we saw the work we were extremely disappointed. He made decisions without consulting with us, he took a dark wood back to natural but didn't remove the base board leaving dark stain around the edges of the room and the kitchen was sanded so unevenly that there are visible white stripes. We asked him to come back and look at it and after he walked around he said he thought it looked fine. He did offer to redo some of the work but after weeks of being out of the house and every room having different problems we didn't trust that he could do the work to our expectations and went with someone else. I asked for some of the money back, (he still would end up with $2400 because he is nice and we wanted to cover the cost of materials) but he never responded. We are now paying twice to have our floors done. Detailed and fast work with no cutting corners no usual excuses just hard work and excellent results

I was referred to Felix by Dale Swirsding, whom I'd contacted about repairing my floor after we had a dishwasher leak. Felix was extremely responsive and came out the same day to take a look and advise on how to best handle the project. He pulled up the affected floor and dried out the subfloor which had significant moisture. He then came back to repair the flooring and blend in with our existing floor by sanding and refinishing the whole kitchen section for a very reasonable price. He was good to work with, communicative, and took our preferences into account (family with small kids so wanted limited disruption). read more

Felix did a fantastic job in our home. What started as simply refinishing the floors in our home turned into significant cleanup and rehab of rear entry stairs that had been covered in linoleum, prepping and finishing a new door, and sealing up a hole in our hardwood from an unused furnace grate. Felix moved as quickly as he could to ensure we could move in on schedule, and he was always responsive to calls if we had questions. I was referred to Felix by Dale Swirsding, whom I'd contacted about repairing my Victorian home's original wooden floor. It had developed quite a few spots where old epoxy jobs had cracked and fallen out, and one board in a high-traffic area in the kitchen was starting to split. Felix answered the phone when I called (many people don't), was very responsive, and did an excellent job repairing and recoating my floors. The split board is now glued and stabilized, and best of all, my home has retained its original flooring! He was also happy to come back after the main job was done to fix a couple of small creaks I'd found later. I highly recommend Felix if you have wood floors that need repairing. Many flooring companies will tell you they don't do repairs, only new flooring, or will say that you need to replace your historic flooring, which I absolutely was not interested in. So finding someone who listened to my needs and knew how to repair an old wooden floor was great! read more

Felix is amazing! We just bought our first home in Oakland (built in 1923!) and pulled up the carpet in the bedrooms hoping for hardwood floors, but found just subfloor in one room and unsalvageable hardwood in the other. We had a hard time finding someone who would be able to finish this big job in our 2-3 week time frame (we wanted floors done before we moved in). Felix was not only able to do it within the time frame, but his prices are very reasonable and he did an amazing job! Parts of our subfloor were badly damaged and he repaired and/or replaced that as well as putting down layers to prevent moisture damage in the future. Our new floors look fantastic! Felix was recommended to me by Dale Swirsding who had refinished my wood floors in 2014 and provided superb customer service. I trusted his recommendation to call Felix 100% and was NOT disappointed. I had a small tile area in front of fireplace I wanted removed and replaced with wood flooring to match the rest of my living room. Felix came and provided a price to do the work within a day. I had no real idea what level of work would go into this as I thought a few hours to demo tile, cut some wood strips, varnish and be done. I was very uninformed as I watched this process unfold, after demo they did work on sub floor, then added water proofing/moisture barrier, then laid the flooring, and then there were many coats of varnish and wax, each one having to dry before finishing with fine sanding and buffing so he left and came back multiple times over 4 days. All this to say he did a LOT of work and my floor looks spectacular!!!! I am so pleased with the quality of work and his timeliness, cleanliness, workmanship, and communication. I couldn't be happier! I would recommend Felix for any hardwood flooring job large or small! (slight variation in tone is because my original floors are 90 yrs old and similar to flooring I did in another room, over time they end up matching) read more

Felix came out and refinished my hardwood floors and they look awesome. My floors are from 1948 and had spent most of their life under carpet and were never sealed. Felix replaced some warped and stained boards then sanded everything level and smooth. He then sealed them and put three coats of polyurethane on them. Felix is a warm and friendly person who helped us deep clean, seal, and polish the 20 year old white linoleum of our surgery center. It was marked with black wheel marks that were impossible to get out by regular cleaning and so it looked badly neglected. In two days, Felix got our floors looking bright, shiny, and almost new. We have vinyl tile flooring in the kitchen because the house is 1920 built and I love that old black and white checkerboard look. It is more expensive to buy the high-end Armstrong tile but it's beautiful. However, very tough to find anyone to buff and polish it. Most services only do commercial--and we have a large dog that drips water and gallops on large paws. (His dad's none too neat, either.) Enter Felix, who does a great job and doesn't stop until he's got it right. He'll be coming back in 6 months or so, sooner if we have a party! read more
