Afternoon tea
Kitty L.

(Prices mentioned in this review are in HKD, divided by 7.75 would convert to USD) We wanted to have an afternoon tea at the Lobby of the Peninsula Hong Kong, which is believed to have set the standard of all afternoon tea in Hong Kong. Being an Art Basel VIP, Daughter warned us that there were Art Basel activities at the Peninsula that day. Thinking that the activities would not have affected the afternoon tea, the 3 of us went anyway. Upon arrival, we were politely told by a lady staff member that for that particular day, afternoon tea would be at their Felix Restaurant on the 28th floor, as the Lobby was occupied with Basel activities. (Daughter did go back in that evening for a complimentary lush Basel VIP opening buffet that spanned several rooms)! The same lady kindly led us to the elevator and pressed the button for us, sending the 3 perplexed people up to Felix. As we were settling down at Felix, disappointment soon turned into happiness again! We had a table with a nice view of the magnificent Victoria Harbor! The restaurant was modern and chic with high ceiling. That probably was a more ideal venue for an afternoon tea in our opinions! Staff were friendly and attentive, as expected. I asked about the portraits of people that were featuring on each of their chair back covers, a server named Maya enthusiastically answered me that they were the valuable employees of the Peninsula. She pointed to the chair that I was facing, and said that the man had worked at the bar for more than 50 years! How interesting! On to the afternoon tea itself. I had the Flowery combination tea, Daughter had the Spiced combo, Hubby had the Oolong Chinese tea, and we were all happy with our choices. Daughter's and my tea had a very nice aroma, and the servers kept all the teapots filled continuously. There was a complimentary tuna in sesame cone for each of us, that was savory and good. The food tower was filled with all 3 orders. The lowest tray had 6 warm raisin scones, which were delicious with strawberry jam and clotted cream. The middle tray with a variety of finger sandwiches actually lacked luster to us. We felt that there was nothing special about those sandwiches, especially the cucumber ones. The savory treats could have been more innovative, at least more different varieties would have been nicer. The top tray desserts were the stars of the meal! Each dessert was crafted with care that looked and tasted good. We had leftovers of 2 scones and 2 pear cheesecakes to take home, and the server gladly packaged those for us in a nice box and bag. Overall, it was a delightful experience and we enjoyed the afternoon tea. Interestingly, it costs a lot less than that in the Peninsula Chicago. Just for your information, there is a minimum charge of HK$350 per person for afternoon tea at the Peninsula. However, afternoon tea for 2 is HK$918, for 1 is HK$528. So, if you don't share, you can exceed the minimum charge without any problems. Also, 10% service charge is standard for restaurants in Hong Kong.

This is a good place to go. If you're looking for a fancy and pretentious experience. Food is very intentional, the service is very personable and accommodating. we were seated in almost a private area in the corner table, looking out at the buildings across the way, and were able to enjoy the light show. The only thing that we didn't appreciate was how long it took all the courses to come out. We were almost there for three hours. The chef utilizes minimal, and delicate flavors in their creation, and maybe underwhelming for some but others may appreciate the little notes in every dish.

Felix Bar is a great way to enjoy the view of the Hong Kong skyline across the harbor. Given that I was here during the winter holidays, there were a lot of beautiful Christmas lights to gaze at. Coming after dark is best for city lights. The bar is very intimate and spots at the large picture window are at a premium so arrive early to ensure you get a seat. If you are scared of heights or have vertigo, prepare yourself because you are very high up and seated very close to the window. The backless stools and counter built at an angle are not the most comfortable for extended periods but I guess that's how they get people in and out quickly! My drink was good.. Free bar snacks were good. The food we ordered was so so. The band playing in the restaurant across the way wasn't bad. I thought the bar patrons were going to be pretty dressed up as the hotel used to be one of the most high end in Hong Kong. But there did not appear to be a dress code and people next to me had sneakers and hoodies on. So if you are worried about attire, don't sweat it. And if you have bulky items, ie. coats, you can check them with the hostess as space in Felix Bar is limited. There is a restroom attendant. I am not sure if you are supposed to tip this person or not, but I am forewarning you in case you want to tip them, bring some change. I rarely carry my purse to the restroom so I always feel bad when I am surprised by an attendant and have no money to tip with.

Lucky me! I get an invitation to Felix most times when in HKg! The champagne flows, small plates arrive and empty plates disappear. You can ask to charge your phone and willingly it's done with a claim check! The champagne, cuisine, and impeccable service is fabulous. Did I mention the view from Kowloon to Hong Kong? Go at 20:00 to catch the lights!

A purely amazing restaurant experience! I booked an opening seating for Felix restaurant, during my stay at the Peninsula. I came an hour before opening to have a drink and small plate at the "American" bar. The drinks were good (considering I'm not an alcohol drinker) and the food was tasty. We were seated upon opening and made our orders. The waiter was friendly and spoke flawless English. He was friendly, professional, and helpful. The food came out at a fair pace and tasted amazing. Each course was cooked to perfection. The desert was different, but ok, overall. I would recommend this place to others looking for a great view, experience, and food. I hope that one day I will be able to come back! An interesting tidbit, before I close: The chair backings are covered in portraits of previous chefs and employees. They're not just random people!

The Verandah, Chesa, Gaddi ... This turn is Felix. Hooray , I made it to have a meal here and can try to make comparison ...

After the Verandah, Chesa and Gaddi, this turn is Felix!! hooray, I am trying my best to try all in the Peninsula hotel of Hong Kong. Why? It is just because I collected 2 why not to keep on if can Came to Felix, the decor is completely different from other 3. I could say each of them has its own unique style. The Verandah is family gathering with all-you-can-eat; Chesa makes you feel in Switzerland . Oh I used wrong word "feel" , should be same as classic Switzerland Resturant with cheese pot! I loved Chesa as of a nice , caring and humor waiter who I still remembered!! Gaddi is the most glorious one in which you are sure that you have to dress up and you are embraced with gold decor. Finally, Felix is cyber and modern. You don't feel like you are inside the most historical hotel. You are standing the top to see harbor view. Nice if you go drinking! Let's talk about food! Menu is showing on iPad! I appreciate the "mood view" app! It's really helpful when people don't have ideas of what to drink like me!! There are 2 tasting menus. One with wine pairing but nil for another one! Comparatively , I love the chefs tasting one much more

Came up to Felix for some drinks and snacks and enjoyed the view. Make sure to wear omg pants since they have no shorts policy.

Felix is located on the 28th floor of The Peninsula Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui. My mom always tells me that the Peninsula was THE HOTEL back in the day. It is still a very high class hotel today. To get to Felix, you have to use one of the elevators on the wing of the hotel. Once you get off on the 28th floor, you have to go up a short flight of stairs. There, you will find Felix! It is a pretty small bar, but the interior design of the place adds to the atmosphere. The design feels like a cross between midcentury modern and modern. Once my friend and I arrived, the bartender told us about their specialty drinks then we were given some bar snacks. Felix has amazing bar snacks! We had olives, flavored macadamia nuts, and a crouton sort of thing. I forgot the name of my drink, but it was a really good size. The size actually surprised me. My friend ordered a gin & tonic. Both of our drinks were really good! There weren't many people at Felix, but that is probably because most people don't know about it! The view from Felix is also pretty awesome. The bartender explained to my friend and I that they don't raise the blinds because it goes with the design of the building. If you're only in Hong Kong for a few days and you want to take stellar photos, this probably isn't your place (because of the blinds). This would be a great spot for a date or a relaxing afternoon. I would highly recommend Felix. I love the intimate feel of the bar.

Initially was recommended this place by a friend because of its roof hop section and location in the heart of Mong Kok along with occasional live music performances. They have set dinners as well as al la carte. Started off with a smoked salmon kale salad along with a cheesy chorizo baked mushroom. Both were pretty standard but portions were appropriate for a light appetizer. The highlight of my meal was the truffle mushroom linguine! Had to add some additional salt and pepper but there was a generous serving of various types of mushrooms and truffle on top! The cream sauce was also very quite delicious and the truffle flavor wasn't too overwhelming. Also tried the octopus risotto! It was combination of squid ink black risotto with spanish paella. The grilled octopus itself was huge although not as tender as I had hoped. I still very much enjoyed the over overall super seafood-y flavor. The rooftop area was still clean and well lit. Loved how you get a background of old HK buildings while enjoying western fusion/more modern dishes. I've also heard this place features really cute cocktails include one with a bubble/mist. Service was pretty standard. Dinner can be pricey but comparable to many other restaurants; their lunch sets seem much more budget friendly.

Comfortable, spacious setting with premium shisha. A treat after visiting a busy area like Mongkok!read more

Ps. I don't usually type that many words on reviews, you can tell how much I loved this restaurant…read more @whisk.hk Great French Japanese Cuisine. We came here on a Tuesday night celebrating my friend's birthday. It was such an excellent dining experience! First thing I've got to say is the service here is above and beyond. From the head chef @willy_cuisinier, the staffs that took care of us, everyone was so nice and caring. The food was amazing too. We both ordered the ten courses from the omakase menu and the wine pairing. My favorite dishes are the Uni Lobster, Sakana and all the desserts!!! Basically every dish has the components I look for. And all the ingredients taste fresh. Plus the platings are gorgeous too every dish is so unique and creative. ------------------------------------ 1st course - Japanese Tomato 4/5 It's very refreshing starter. It comes with the granita and the jelly on the bottom. All of the flavors worked so well with the tomato. 2nd course - Caviar 4/5 Japanese Yam, marusho rice vinegar, Caviar. It was very nice indeed. Soft and delicate. 3rd course - Aubergine 4/5 Very beautiful presentation and it was tasty with the nori sauce. And it goes very well with the sake! 4th course - Sakana 5/5 The fish was cooked at its perfection, so soft and juicy with full of taste. One of the tastiest pieces of fish I had ever eaten. And the broth so good that you wanted to soak it up with anything available. 5th course - Japanese Sweet Onion 3/5 The sweet onion was good. The dumpling broth was light not too heavy and creamy. 6th course - Lobster (+$178 add Uni) 5/5 Add Uni is a MUST if you're an UNI fan like me!! Believe me it was worth every penny. The whole dish was very satisfying and mouth watering. So fresh. And it had perfect texture and delightful flavors. It's like an explosion in your mouth. Main courses - Guinea Fowl and Wagyu Beef A4 (+$228) 4/5 I really like the French chicken with the harissa sauce and grape jam. It was flavorful, juicy and tender. The subtle flavor of this dish is so comforting. And the Saga Wagyu beef was cooked on point and very juicy as well. Loved the nori as well. Both dishes paired very well with the Merlot. Dessert - Momo 5/5, Chocolate 5/5 , Miso 5/5 I can't even pick my favorite. I don't really like sweets but I loved all these. They were incredible and tasty. Momo, a peach dessert with candied hibiscus and roses. Sour and sweet. Great paired with the complimentary liqueur peach. Thank you! Chocolate, loved this magical pairing of three different types of matcha and chocolate. It's really pair well together, making for a slightly nutty, sweet, and bitter combo. Miso, White Chocolate Shiso Choux. I ate so many Choux cream puffs before. But this was so delicious! The filling for this Choux is to die for! Hahahaha Loved every dish and can't wait to come back here again!! Service (Excellent service) Ambience (the decor is beautiful, chic, modern, relaxing) Food (Incredible, delicious)

And the brunch is a feast; besides the seafood themed buffet featuring cold cuts, smoked salmon, unlimited lobster, prawns, oysters from the south of France, and caviar, they also serve a three-course meal off of an ever-changing menu. An incredible food experience! Definitely come hungry and expect to not need to eat anything else the rest of the day. As you enter the restaurant you're greeted with a glass of champagne, or wine. Alcohol at this brunch is "free-flowing". meaning when you get up to grab more food, your drink will be filled by the time you return. And you can spend hours trying everything in the the dessert and cheese rooms. The best thing about Whisk, is that there's always some surprise for the guests. They've done all kinds of things over the years: I've witnessed them serve a giant chocolate stiletto for dessert. I've watched the head chef prepare the freshest sashimi I've ever had; I watched him prep and cut a tuna caught the day before (see photo). And I also witnessed them take slices of Wagyu beef and blowtorch them over a stone for a unique bringing-you-to-tears flavor(see video). It's unique experiences like this that keep me coming back. I'm excited to see what unique things Whisk chooses to do this coming year. Foodie alert: eating at Whisk is turning people with the mildest of pallets into foodies, one brunch at a time.

This place is slightly more expensive for breakfast that the JW Marriott (and its in the same building but with a separate entrance) but it's got an amazing view and the food is delicious. The place is super chill, good background music and good vibes from the staff. It also has a chill vibe in the way that it's laid out, there's a feeling of openness. Maybe that feeling has to do with the epic view however. A few seats are in window corners where you get a great panorama view. Other seats are internal but still have a good view from a distance. I would go back, if for no other reason just for the fact that I had something I've never had before anyplace and it was really good. They have an eggs Benedict with short ribs in place of the ham. It's a Hong Kong take on the dish. We also had the pastries and muffins to share for the table. All were amazing.

Very much the centre for commerce and finance, it is also the Capital of anything in Vogue, where new fads and fashions are embraced in this ancient country called China. Food is a way to express the way people live and the way people "want" to live! Hence the invention of Chinese Influenced Western Cooking. Very much like the Yoshoku Cooking in Japan started in the Meiji Period. In China, it is mostly influenced by the influx of White Russians refugees during and after the Revolution. They bring not only their own culture but also their cuisine, some of the more wealthy "refugees" would still hire maids and cooks after their escape, as they still wish to maintain their ways of living before the revolution in Russia. These Cooks later became fully versed in the Russian Cuisine and soon they put in their own signature to make it their own. At Sunning, their influence of the West came from France, Russia and other European cooking methods. They also pride themselves in baking their own bread fresh everyday. Lunch that day was with my family in Hong Kong, we all grew up having this type of western dishes, and its a way of getting back to our childhood times. My Rack of Lamb was done perfectly, very tender and juicy, the doneness perfect, the sauce was a bit on the sweet side tho. The Chicken Caesar unlike anything we see in N. America, it is their own interpretation, chicken breast was poached not grilled, thus its more tender and moist, being a Caesar Salad it's size is not doing justice to the dish. Yes, I understand it is a starter and not a meal size, so if you are on a diet, this will be a very good dish to have! Service is old school, very attentive and warm, all the servers are over 50 and they all seemed to have been there forever! Sunning is still is and hopefully will still be there for a long time, as new generations will learn the history of their grandparents here of how food is being served in the old days of Shanghai and Hong Kong!
