I called and made an appointment. I told Kelly what I wanted before I arrived. I get there and Im seated with a woman (Lisal) who did not understand what an American manicure was. Kelly had to bring her the color I needed for the mani/pedi because she did not understand what I was saying when I told her American she kept saying "french?". My nail was chipped when I arrived she proceeded with the pedicure. I was happy enough with the results of my pedicure but they couldn't add a design because I didn't get no-chip. I thought that was odd but I didn't press. Lisal then began performing the manicure. She started by putting a repair cloth over my chipped nail and when she finished the nail repair there was an obvious bubble that would not be hidden under an American manicure. When I asked Lisal about it she came up with all of these different options of how to cover the bubble. But none of them would work. Finally, Lisal walked away speaking in her native tongue and causing everyone to start talking to her about the matter, I suppose. Next thing I know now Maya is sitting across from me and trying to cone up with a method to civer the nail. Eventually we figured it out. I would not end up with what I had come there for. They still, after all of that, charged me the regular price Never again. My last negative experience here happened 2years ago with Kelly. I gave it some time and , against my better judgement , decided to give it another try. Bad move. I wont be back. I would never recommend their service. Their customer service is horrible and the language barrier causes the only option for service to be, at best, mediocre. Play (with your money $$$) at your own risk. So I went in to get a no chip pedi and mani. Well I was charged $110 for my services and usually I'm okay with whatever the price is as long as the outcome is to my liking. I was charged $10 for nail removal even though I was getting an immediate service. They charged me an additional $20 for a no chip pedicure. The woman doing my all WHITE manicure decided to do dip instead of no chip. The lady used a buffer that was stained red and it stained what was supposed to be white nails. I have only been to this salon twice. I got a manicure and pedicure during my recent visit. Salon - The salon sits in a retail strip. I will say overall the salon is clean (kinda old looking. They need to remodel the salon). Pedicure - I entered the salon and I immediately felt rushed to pick a nail color. I do not understand the rush when there was nobody in the salon. After I picked my color, I was rushed to the pedicure station. Again, I'm not sure why. The lady doing my toes did a good job. I wish they had a liner in the pedicure bowl, but I did see them "washing" the bowl out. They moved extremely fast when putting on my polish, so she had to go back and clean up all of her mess. I don't know why she didn't just take her time. Nail - The salon did dip for my nails. I would never get dip again here. They did a combination of dip and nope chip. I was very confused about the work being done with my nails. Also, the lady was overly aggressive when doing my nails. She kept tossing my fingers all over the place. It was extremely bizarre and annoying. Recommendation - I would probably only go back to get my toes done. read more

My mom, my sister, and I went for mani/pedis and loved it. Pedicure chairs were by far the fanciest, most comfortable pedi chairs I have ever sat in. The control panel looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, but the Fedora Kate crew spent that extra 2 minutes to teach us the buttons and grab a couple magazines for each of us. Awesome service. As far as the manicure goes, Fedora Kate knows their stuff. As soon as I sat down Konnie told me the exact colors of the polish on my nails, even though they were worn and chipped, she still recognized the colors. She uses this freaking fantastic no-chip top coat which totally lived up to the hype. Oh, and on a side note, Konnie is the only manicurist I have ever seen to have her nails did too. Usually, manicurist keep the nails clear as they are in constant contact with acetone and stuff that would take their polish off. Konnie's nails were fly, and when I asked her about it, she told me it was this no-chip top coat of the gods and even took a cotton ball of acetone to her nails to prove it. Since we were already super impressed with the service and the friendly staff, we decided to get designs on our nails, and I got an eyebrow wax. You would think they were painters in a past life with the designs they put on our nails. Next time, I would love to come with my family and friends and book the private party room, I got a little peek at it as Konnie took me back for my eyebrows and I thought it would be so much fun to have a ladies night or something there. read more

I hate to do this because now I have to find a new place to get an occasional pedicure and gel manicure but my experience was far from what it was merely 2 years ago. I wanted my pedicure just like it was on their picture in the window: simple whitish nails, simple, clean. What I got was just this...thick overlayered white that didn't go with my skin tone even though I asked her for her opinion. Originally I was trying to get shellac but the surface of my nails wasn't even so it was doing this weird crackling affect so I told her you know what just do gel because it'll even out the surface since obviously this isn't working. My gel manicure was a joke. It was uneven texture, super thick, and super unwearable. After all said and done (this is the best part) - they charged me $100! I gave her $18 in tip because I was there for 2 hours. I walked out stressed, with nails I now had to redo myself, wasted my time, unhappy. I'm not the type to go back in and argue it just to possibly waste 2 more hours of my life so I think it's just time to find a new gem. read more

Made an appointment and when I showed up they said they didn't have time which I really don't know what that meant since my appointment was at 2pm and there where 2 other customers in there. While I was getting my pedicure my nail technician stopped what she was doing to me , to do nail art on another customer and left me just waiting for about 10 mins until she finished with her. I couldn't WAIT to get back to my computer to leave this review. So I noticed this place tucked away in this strip mall and I noticed my company had flyers laying around the office - so I decided to try to place. Ha...worse mistake of my life. I went in to notice that there were no customers, so I think to myself great, I'll get in and get out quickly. There was only one worker, who was on the phone didn't acknowledge my presence - ok whatever. She's probably talking to a customer...I wait and she gets off the phone and says, Hi, I don't have you down. I proceed to tell her well I'm a walk-in and your flyer states that walk-ins are welcomed. She tells me well I have a 12:30pm (mind you is like 12:50pm) thats running late, let me call her and see where she is - what are you getting? I tell her a full set - so she tells me to pick my color. Now she's on the phone with this late customer while I'm listening to her trying to figure out if her LATE customer is still coming - while this paying customer (me- cash on hand and who IS standing in front of her) is waiting to see what she wants to do. She gets off the phone and says well she told me she's 3 min away, soooooo - then I asked is anyone else here - she tells me no they went to lunch probably at the mall or something (while she stares out the window towards the mall) - then where was an awkward silence. I put my color back on the shelve and leave while she tells me sorry! Keep your sorry - if she knew anything about customer service she should have either started me until her LATE customer came or until one of her workers returned. Or she could have attempted to make an appointment for me for a later date or time. I was so upset I ripped up the flyer with discounts in the parking lot and threw it away. Please if you DON'T accept walk-ins, please make that be known. Don't say you do on flyers that YOU pass out and when one walks through the door - you send them back on their way. I just returned home from Fedora Kate, and had to write a review right away so I didn't forget - I totally fell in love with this place!! The interior is stunning, not like your average nail salon. All the employees are super friendly, and they spoke english, which was a huge plus. I ended up here because of a LivingSocial deal I purchased for a Spa Pedicure - I wasn't disappointed, and I will be returning! The experience was great, the salon was clean, and my technician did a great job. The prices are great, too. What's awesome about them is, instead of paying for the whole no-chip manicure, you can pay to get just the no-chip polish applied, which is only $17 - not bad for something that lasts over 2 weeks! This will for sure save me some cash in the long run, as I am used to going elsewhere and paying $50 with tip every two weeks for a no-chip manicure. This place is right across from the Oak Brook mall, in the plaza with Panera - another plus, it's about 3 miles from my house! I believe I hit the nail salon jackpot :) read more

I've never been to this place before and the only reason why I opted for FKN is because it's open until 8pm... (haha what an acronym!) Most nail salons close around 7pm and I needed a pick me up. Every other place was closed except for FKN and other really expensive salons. I arrived a little after 7pm and there was only 1 other person in the salon drying her nails. The customer service is very friendly, but I could tell the 3 girls on staff were winding down from the day. It was an hour before closing so I completely understand. I guess I can't really judge the customer service fully because of that. I'm the type of girl who likes to get pampered physically and aesthetically if that makes sense... The environment has to be clean, sanitary, pretty, etc etc... I love the way FKN is set up... It's as if you're walking into your own personal palace de pretty nails... There is not one fingerprint on the walls or counters... Everything is so clean and neat!! You know how at those cheap nail salons, there's equipment everywhere and random nailpolish or bottles of nail polish remover everywhere?? All different brands and nothing is uniform?? No, at FKN there's nothing left out. Everything is neatly placed or put away... My girl was very nice and always smiled whenever she asked my opinion on my nails... I liked her. She did a very good job on my french tip manicure! I loved how she knew that a smaller tip would look better on my small nails. She seemed very professional and my nails look great! I went to a nail salon before called Lily Nails in Downers Grove and got an $8 french tip polish change. At FKN it was $12.00 which is more expensive but they do a lot more to take care of your nails. I was surprised when they filed, buffed, and cuticle oiled my nails. I thought they were doing a full manicure and I was about to tell them to stop but that's what's included in their polish change! I'd rather pay a little more for the care of my nails. I love how this place is so professional. They take card, tip on the card (major plus... i hate bringing cash!!!), and provide a pamphlet of prices... Lily Nails didn't even have a pamphlet with prices so I had to take a picture of the sign to know the prices. I like this place a lot... I can't wait to get my feet done!!! Oh yeah! I was stupid-late to my appointment (20 minutes, I wish rain didn't turn people into dumb drivers) but the ladies at Fedora Kate still took me and did a great job. The massage chairs for pedicures are TO DIE FOR. Seriously. They massage you in places you didn't even know you had. Come here for those chairs if nothing else. The pedi and mani were done by different ladies, but both turned out great. Four days later and hardly a chip in sight. Not a perfect 5-stars because of two things - 1. When I called to say I was going to be late, the woman who answered the phone was sort of wishy-washy about whether or not they could take me and said that they had a lot of people coming in at 5pm (my appt was at 4pm). I was getting my manicure at 5pm, they didn't have anyone come in then. Just trying to make me feel bad for being late? Or perhaps she was confused about time... 2. I wasn't overly impressed with their nail polish selection - mostly pinks, which I'm not really into. I like darker reds and brown-ish tones, and I couldn't find many to choose from. This place is truly a gem! My boss has been coming to Kate for a few years and gave me a gift certificate for a pedicure for my birthday with the strong instruction of "RELAX!" A week later, my mom and I are in Fedora Kate's getting pedicures and relaxing for a bit. The environment is dark much like your average spa. And it's located across the street from oak brook mall leading one to believe it's going to be oak brook prices. It isn't. They were standard nail salon prices. Do you, lovely reader, remember that episode of Seinfeld where Elaine freaks out in the nail salon because she knows the manicurists are talking about her in their native tongue? This is an incredibly common feeling in any nail salon EXCEPT FEDORA KATE'S!!! Never once did I hear a single employee speak to another in a language other than English. They go out of their way to make sure the clients are comfortable. Talk about a place putting the clients first! I will definitely be back. Thanks to my fellow yelpers, I decided to give fedora a try. So glad I did!! I am back to having extraordinary pedicures with the most amazing massage chairs ever. Thankfully they take their time with the pedicures so I can relax in that miracle chair. The foot massage is phenomenal. They always have the newest magazines and the newest collection of nail colors. Unlike other nail salons, the staff here is professional and courteous. They are also very clean here, thank god. Now I remember why I don't ever come here... I arrived at 6pm without an appointment. One lady tells me they are booked and can't take me. Great, thanks for being honest. Another lady tells me she'll be done in ten mins and can take me. 17 mins later I finally get seated for my pedicure. Then the lady disappears for another 15 mins! Apparently she was doing someone else's waxing and didn't bother to tell me. Thank you for your gracious customer service. I sure appreciated waiting over 40 mins . A friend of mine and I went here for her birthday. We were walk-ins, and two technicians got to us within a half hour, probably less. My friend received a no-chip gel manicure, which cost her forty dollars. I received a regular manicure, which was seventeen dollars. I must say the manicure I received was absolutely beautiful. People were asking me if I received a no-chip manicure because of how shiny my nails were. Both technicians were soft-spoken and polite, and they both made us feel welcome even though we were new customers. The facility is also clean! The only thing I wish I would've known is that they prefer payments in cash over credit cards. However, when I paid with my card, they didn't complain. I definitely recommend this place! I normally don't waste time on writing bad reviews, but I get angry every time I look at my nails. I scheduled a mani/pedi as a part of a mini girls weekend with my aunts and cousins. Based off the reviews, I thought I was in good hands. WRONG! My nail tech didn't say more than 3 words to me. The pedicure was ok, aside from the fact that I had to remind her about wrapping the hot towel around my legs like the rest of my group had. As a result, the towels were only around my legs for about a minute, as she rushed me to the station to start my mani. WORST...MANI....EVER! Seriously. She didn't do any nail work. Just unevenly clipped my nails (no filing), squirted some lotion on my hands, "massaged" my fingers, and then polished my nails. Not to mention, she was extremely annoyed that two of us wanted the same nail color and she had to wait before she could start polishing my nails. Not really sure what her problem was, but it was hours before closing time, and the place was empty (except for the five of us). I'm used to top notch service. This experience was not even close.
