Fay Da Bakery has been on my list to visit, so it was a wonderful happenstance to come upon it on one of my West Village strolls. I quickly ducked in, ordering its famed mango mochi and a lychee slushie with boba. The mochi was soft as a cloud. It was the most delicately tender mochi I've ever had. The cream inside was fluffy and lightly sweetened. The bits of mango were tart. Overall, the texture was heavenly, but it didn't have as strong of a mango flavor. The slushee, too, was not as sweet and not as lychee-forward, although I did like the amount of boba that they gave me (which was lots) and the softness of them. Would I return to Fay Da? No, at least not to this location. I've crossed it off my list, and I will leave it at that. read more

A friend of mine gave me a milk tea, and based on this alone, I thought it was a great combination of milk and tea. Usually I dread trying certain places because, you know, sometimes the drinks feel too sweet, sometimes too bitter, or watered down. This one was a good combination, and I felt the portion size was decent. I'll have to try their bakery--I'm sure it'll be good soon enough--but so far, I definitely recommend this as a nice cool drink during the summer. read more

This bakery is right outside the W. 4th St. Station. They close early but I'm super happy whenever I can catch them open. They have a lot of great pastries and great prices. They have everything from bread to cookies to cakes. They also serve coffee and tees. You should definitely visit them if you're in the area. The bakery is kept really clean and the woman behind the counter is always very nice. read more

Before watching a screening at the IFC Center, we ducked into Fay Da Bakery for hot drinks and sweet treats. The drinks come out quick, so it's perfect for grab-and-go. There isn't seating inside this Fay Da, so we walked over to the little park nearby and sat on one of the benches. He went with a hot taro boba and I went with an almond milk tea boba. We split an almond custard bun between the two of us. Perfect on a Sunday morning in the West Village :) read more

Wow!! They take card here now. I've been going to this spot for years but stopped going because I never have cash. This week I went in and I learned they take debit or credit in addition to cash. They have warm buns, delicious breads, cakes, drinks, and more. During the holidays they make ule logs and holiday cakes for pre order. It's absolutely adorable and they are a staple of the community. read more

A small little bakery right outside of the West 4 subway station. The bakery itself has a nice selection of buns, pastries, drinks, and cookies. Things do run out by around 2pm, so if you want more options definitely recommend going before noon. I've been to both the chinatown and west village locations and the peanut mochi and mango mochi at both locations are always a hit with my family. The pineapple bun with custard and lemon puff are also my go-to's. Service is fine and fast. read more

For those craving the Hong Kong experience of getting fresh baked goods and an egg tart, this is probably the best place in the area to go. It really gives traditional vibes with the plate and grabber tongs. The prices are also what they should be for the pastries which means you can get a good number for the same price of just a couple items at fancier bakeries. I got maybe 6 buns for $15 . The taste has the level of nostalgia I'm looking for and the selection is exactly what I want as well - no major frills but everything is delicious. The cashier is probably the most efficient I've encountered - she wastes no time in packing quickly and moving onto the next person which is amazing for us impatient newyorkers. My pictures only show two buns because I absolutely inhaled four with my fiance then realized maybe I should have taken a picture. They have several locations and I assume the quality is similar at all which makes this a great place for a consistent nostalgic moment. read more

Fay Da Bakery - Sweet topping bun and BBQ pork bun - Bakeries Near Me - New York, New York

Judge every Chinese bakery first by its roast pork bun. If that's satisfactory, then peruse the rest of the menu. The roast pork bun here is solid. It's filled with some nice, tender meat. There are very few fatty pieces. I counted one in my last bun. That's a good sign. Some buns at other places are filled with lots of fatty bits and too many onions. I've tried the pineapple buns, melon cakes, and other items here and all were very good. There's one other place I would rate above this but I'm not going to name it here. Let's just say that if you come to NYC's Chinatown, you're going to get some very good food here. You will not be disappointed. This is coming from a Cantonese lady. read more

Excited to find a location for Fay Da outside of Chinatown. Agreed that it doesn't have as many items as the ones in Chinatown but still a fan. If you go early they may not have the full selection of pastries, cakes, cookies, sticky rice. Everything seemed relatively fresh and enjoyed the coconut bun, sticky rice and egg custard. You pick up a tray and tongs and choose what you want. You get so much more for your money at Chinese bakeries which I have always appreciated. read more

In the mood for Chinese bakery? Robust collection of assorted baked goods. Most items are bread based and any cream in between is often semi sweet or neutral. Unlike Italian or german bakeries the items are typically not as sweet and some may even be savory with fillings in the savory goods with ham, sausage, and chicken. Prices have gone up since covid as the milestone for all Chinese restaurants and bakeries to catch up to pricing of their non-Chinese competitors but still slightly lower. Service is typically fast although sometimes confusing as locals just wander in and cut then line even when lines may be out the door, and service staff says nothing and just serves them. This happens in many Chinese establishments whether it is because those people who cut lines have no respect, etiquette for order, or completely oblivious. The staff may be in the same train of thought although added that they could be turning a blind eye because the patron is a regular (I kid you not). Always on ground level. All take out. Some have limited seating but not all. Not very ADA compliant as counters are so high and no restrooms. Street parking only (good luck with that) Seems clean. Due to health code some of their items if not all are individually wrapped. Bon Appetite! read more

Cheap eats are far and few between in the West Village so this popular Chinese bakery chain is lowkey a godsend. $2.25 for a hearty steamed pork & veggie bao makes the perfect breakfast (or light lunch) especially if you're on a budget. Plenty of sweet baked buns/pastries as well but I'm a savory girlie and there's a decent variety for us too. You can find buns at even lower costs at similar bakeries in Chinatown, but again it's the WV - I'll take what I can get around here. Be sure to have cash if you're spending under $10. read more

I serendipitously stumbled upon this Fay Da while exiting the train station on West 4 one day. It was like hitting the jackpot! I know there are a million Chinese bakeries in Chinatown, but I'm just too lazy to make the special trip. They don't have every single thing you may find at a typical Fay Da, but they def have my faves and they're good as always. Super glad I found it and will always stop by when I want Chinese baked goods. read more

It is with a heavy heart that I am going to tell everyone about this INCREDIBLE AUTHENTIC BAKERY! Had you worried huh? I have been in search of the illusive delicious food in NYC. So many people post fake reviews on here just for likes. I have finally found it. This bakery has the most delicate dishes and reminds me of Chinatown in SF. It's right before the subway entrance. This location of Fay Da had a full selection of their typical items, all labeled extremely clearly as in all Fay Das. Savory items were ok. Prefer classic scallion braid/breads to the green pea and scallion braid, as the peas seemed to dry it out a bit. The plain croissant was ok, had a buildup of butter on the bottom but didn't result in a moist croissant, it was slightly dry. read more

We had some work in the Greenwich area and needed before heading to the Gym. This bakery is located right at the entrance of the subway (A, C, D; B, D, F, M). It is easy to miss this gem on the busy street. Awful I ordered DoorDash for a delivery and they changed my order without notifying me from a bun (no meat) to a tuna sandwich. They also went to charge more money for the difference with my approval. We have fish allergies. Nothing was posted on the DoorDash app to notify us. Not professional. Very sneaky. Never shopping here again. Anyone else thinking about ordering through a delivery app please think twice and take a lot of precaution. read more

Always my immediate go to for a quick breakfast as I'm headed to work. Conveniently located right above the W. 4th St. subway station, I make a pit stop here before transferring trains. I love coming here for their warm pastries that are made fresh every day. I also love the steam egg creme bun!! I know that this place is carbs galore but I really like that it's affordable and fills me up quickly for a day when I can't be bothered to have a healthy breakfast. The buns are only less than two dollars I believe and the pastries are all less than three dollars! I chose to get my birthday cake from this place back in October, which is a big decision. You want your cake to be tasty, the right size, and with flavors that can be enjoyed by all... It did not disappoint in the slightest. I ordered the "Pink Lady Cake" mostly because of the cut heart detailing on the size which reminded me of those minimalist Korean lunchbox cakes. I was going for something aesthetic as it was a picnic and we had a lot of other sweet treats. Very light and fluffy cake, almost like air with a perfect strawberry touch. I got the "medium" size which worked out for my group but expect something smaller and rounder than a classic grocery store cake They also have the cutest animal face cakes I want to try, I don't know what occasion I would need them for but like they say it's a want, not a need. Look at them on their website it's so cute Besides the preorder, they have a selection of grab-and-go individually wrapped pastries. Many reviews mention them and while I haven't tried these (even though I was super tempted when I was ordering my cake), I'd say the hidden star are the orderable cakes- I would guess that the taro is really good but I didn't know if everyone in my party liked this flavor. The fresh fruit cake, chocolate mousse cake, and Japanese cheesecake seem like crowd-pleasers Even though the communication was a little off and I was worried something would go wrong, the staff did their job perfectly and the cake was on time. I don't mind having to repeat myself to make sure the details are there as long as it works out in the end Setting: I wish they could expand into new locations because the one by Washington Square Park isn't always the safest. While I was there a person who was staying outside started wandering the store and encroaching on other's space - luckily the staff and customers didn't give them any attention and the situation never escalated read more

Named after Darth Fay-da, I'm not sure if me finding this bakery (which I took my little tiny Sammi Puffle into, in her little pink carrier) was destiny or just a twist of fayda. It's better to burn out than to Fay Da way, and that's what I found out when I came to this cute little Greenwich Village Bakery. In terms of products, and also some of the customers, this is a lovely little Bakery - and I didn't really want to like it because some of the prices are a little on the high side, and the server was extremely unfriendly to me. But as it happened every bite of the spectacular lemon bread was dreamy and delicious and there is no way I can give them less than five stars considering that they are putting out products as good as 85 Degree Bakery, without being a massive chain. Long may they survive and prosper as one of the top Asian bakeries I've been to in NYC. read more

I saw a Yelp photo of their taro puff and had to try it. I've never even had a taro puff before! But something out that person's Yelp photo (looked like a Taro sandwich) was incredible. And oh, yes, one bite and it's confirmed. The level of sweetness is so subtle yet sweet and the creaminess of the taro is off the charts, enveloped by a fresh, fluffy crust. I've never had anything that tastes like this! Get this and message me after. Also had the sesame ball which is greasy and delicious and I'd get this too, but that taro puff? I knew this bakery closes at 5pm, so I called ahead of time asking that if I make it there by 4:55pm, would they still be open to sell me 8 cakes? She said yes, we close at 5pm. So, I rush from NJ to NYC to try to get these cakes and arrive at 4:48pm. Guess what? The metal bars were 3/4 down and they closed BEFORE 5pm. I called 3x and nobody picked up even though I saw workers inside. I knocked on the glass and metal gate to get their attention. A woman comes to the front and says they're closed at 4:51pm. I told her I had called an hour earlier to ask if they'd still be open at 4:55pm to sell cakes to me, but she kept waving that they're closed. Thank you, Fay Da Bakery, for making me trek in the middle of this frigid winter storm to your bakery only to have you lie to me on the phone and then to my face that you're closed. Change your schedule to closed at 4:45pm! This is ridiculous. Will never shop here again and will certainly spread the news of your false business hours! read more

The highest honor a Chinese mother can give a baked good is, "it's not too sweet" and any classic Asian bakery will be filled with treats ranging from savory, salty, lightly sweet, sweet. Pictured here are some classic favorites that stand out at Fay Da- Roast pork bun- open debates on whether fluffy steam or savory baked is best, Coconut bun- a fun alternative to your usually cinnamon roll, this has a lighter coconutty shreds, scallion twist- a savory bread, taro bun- a internet favorite, the inside has the texture of smooth sweet mashed potatoes but a light fragrance of taro. Pro-tip: instead of buying the steamed buns from the fridge, you can ask for the cold ones from the back and steam it between 5-10 mins. Bring water to a boil in a deep pot, put down a rack or something that'll hold up a tray. Add buns in after water is hot and steamy, wait 5-10 mins or until bun has a gentle give but bounces back under your touch. read more

This Fay da is located in a convenient location right out of the West 4 train station next to the IFC. Fay da is a chain and this one is quite clean but still small. There are not tables to sit in and not everything is labeled all the time. The area with the pastries is one aisle so only one person can fit at a time. This means when it gets crowded it feels crowded. When I entered it was empty and when I left the store was full!! There are more cakes and stuff near the counter where you order. If the phenomenon of past lives truly exist, I am inclined to say that I was Asian and/or Indian at several stages of my life. I adore these cuisines. And I also love Chinese bakeries. Fay Da Bakery is literally right off the West 4th Street train station. And it's worth a visit. There are several locations and I am pretty sure that this bakery is slightly more expensive than Chinatown counterparts. But....still a great deal to satisfy sweet or savory cravings. I've been here countless times and always walk out with some of my favorites: lemon roll, steamed pork/chicken/or vegetable bun, bread and everything in between. Where else can you find a large steamed bun for $1.35? Every item is priced in this ball park. There are a few chairs available for seating if you're impatient and want to eat immediately. They also carry loaves of bread, tea and coffee. Some of their delicious treats are the various steamed buns, lemon roll cake, custard tarts, scallion twist, lemon puff and matcha cheesecake. A classic/old school Hong Kong style bakery. The location is right next to the entrance/exit of the West 4th station, and you can convenniently see it to your right as you walk out from the SW corner. Items include a wide selection of baked goods and cakes, with many of the classic Hong Kong treats such as pineapple bun, egg tarts, sponge cakes, Swiss rolls, "Lo Por Bang" (or wife's melon cake) and many more. They also have seasonal items such as moon cakes, but I really am not a fan of that, so never got to try. I am glad that they have a locaiton outside of Chinatown or Flushing in Queens to make it handy to grab a bite on the go when I am in the area. They are cash only as well. Stopped by on Saturday morning to get some quick bites before walking around the city. We got the roasted pork puff, chicken puff, pork and cabbage bun, and a red bean pastry. It's self service - you fill a platter with the things you want and bring it to the counter to pay. Easy, no frills. I recommend everything except the pork and cabbage bun - only bc it doesn't have that much filling. Everything else was so delicious! I also got a hot coffee that came with milk and sugar which I wasn't expecting and not how I usually take my coffee but it honestly hit the spot. We ate everything in a small park on the next block and it was such a good way to start off the day. Everything we got came out to about $10 in total. read more

So grateful for this Chinese bakery in the village! The location is uber convenient, literally one step away from the West 4th station. You take a plastic tray and tongs and grab whatever you want from the shelves. When you're done picking what you want. you take your tray to the register and they will bag everything for you. Service attitude leaves something to be desired, but I went near closing time so I think the staff was just tired. Like most Chinese bakeries, all of the items are cheap af. I got a sesame ball and pineapple bun for only $1.45 each. The sesame ball is glutinous and has a fair amount of red bean paste inside. If you're like me and have an unhealthy obsession with pineapple buns, I would definitely suggest trying the coconut filled one. The crust on the top is so crunchy and crumbly just how I like it and the coconut filling is sweet and not too dense. CASH ONLY read more
