This was our 16th time diving with Fathom Five and just like it always does, it didn't disappoint. Our dive master was Shawn and our captain was Sergio. We've been on trips with both multiple times and they are by far the best we've had at Fathom Five and the island on the whole. Shawn's pre and post dive briefings are incredible. He goes super in depth on all the conditions of the sites and all of the animals we will see. He brings his iPad which he has some great examples of what to look out for. Sergio is incredibly personable, helpful and always seems like he enjoys being there. Fathom Fives amazing crew is definitely part of why we love diving with them. Our last charter we did a two tank twilight boat dive. We dove at lunch plate and Sheraton caverns, two amazing sites. We've done the Sheraton caverns countless times but it was totally different at night. The lights they gave us worked great. We would totally do this charter again.

Great experience diving with Fathom Five and an incredible day trip to Niihau, but there were several issues that left us disappointed. Positive aspects: -Wonderful diving and a memorable Niihau experience. -Clear passion for the sport and good underwater sights including sharks, dolphins, seals, tons of fish and more! -Bean bags on board were a great option to maximize the small space. -Guide's historical knowledge on the island and fish photography greatly complemented the diving day experience. Areas for improvement: 1) Staff attentiveness and on-board safety -We observed multiple instances of guests feeling sick, including frequent vomiting. It seemed staff were not consistently attentive or readily available to assist passengers in distress. -The two dive masters could have communicated and checked in more frequently with affected guests. -When safety concerns arose, there didn't appear to be immediate action to address mess or sanitize affected areas. We noted wastewater or ocean water being used to wash vomit, which felt inappropriate and concerning. -The captain and guide appeared preoccupied with other tasks (e.g., a sports game) rather than focusing on boat operations and guest safety. 2) Food storage and allergens -It would be helpful to have a clear system for noting food options, preferences, and any allergens upfront. -We also had concerns about some of the food storage and spoilage risk during the trip; Proper temperature control and handling of food are important to prevent potential illness. 3) Niihau day alignment (equipment and sizing) -We scheduled a pre-Niihau dive to align wetsuit sizing and weights, and were told our sizes/weights from the first dive would be used for Niihau. -In reality, wetsuit sizes and weights were not consistently accurate, which affected buoyancy and comfort during the Niihau dive. 4) In water safety -During the dive, there was a safety concern that was not properly addressed and there was confusing guidance for divers to go up on a line that had no boat attached when they had plenty of air left. Bottom line We loved the diving and the site, but the service and safety practices did not meet our expectations. Given these concerns, we'll consider alternative operators for future trips and recommend others verify attentiveness, safety protocols, and equipment management before booking.

What epic dives from the boat! I am a longtime diver and former owner of a dive shop in Monterey, CA. I will only dive with organizations that prioritize safety and positive experiences. In my experience of 30 years of diving on Kauai, Fathom Five and dive guides Linda Marsh and Julie Gardner have earned my respect Yesterday's dives with Fathom Five and Linda Marsh were no exceptions. We saw a treasure trove of critters! Let's see: octopi mating, white tip reef shark, whales, boatloads of turtles and fish, eels and ... a playful Hawaiian Monk Seal! As we were coming up from a safety stop, I turned as found myself peering into the face of a seal not 12" away from mine! We just continued to examine each other without moving. I highly recommend Fathom Five and Linda Marsh without reservation! I will definitely continue to dive with Fathom Five! #fathomfive #lindamarsh

A SCUBA trip is…read moremandatory (in my opinion) when visiting Hawaii and figured I would dive again at Koloa Landing and also decided to go with Scuba Steve again too. Koloa Landing: This site has such easy shore access that it made no sense to me to go elsewhere and get on a cattle boat with lots of people and also take a chance on getting sea sick. I had that experience on Oahu before and did not want to go through that again. There are so many things to see on this reef (like turtles, dragon and spotted eels, starfish, plus so many different colorful fish and coral). The shallow depth here allows for a couple of nearly one hour 2-tank dives. The visibility was good but not great during our dives - maybe about 45'. Lots of critters + lots of bottom time = great dive! I only wish I had worn a few more pounds of weight. Scuba Steve: SS is professional yet has a great sense of humor, he is simply fun to hang out with. He does an in-depth briefing with photos before the dives to go over all the things that are likely to be seen - which so much better than asking 'what was this and that' after the dive. Scuba Steve was so familiar with the reef it felt like we were getting a personal tour of his reef. He also had chairs and changed out the tanks for us between dives. He also had a fresh water shower to rinse the salt water off after diving. Very satisfied with the entire experience!

However, the weather was not cooperating on either side of the trip.. we got delayed 2 days by the winter storm PAX... then upon arrival to Kauai local storms and flash floods were occurring our first 2 days on the island. Scuba Steve was fantastic adjusting schedules and keeping us posted on the conditions. Needless to say the diving portion of the trip was abbreviated, BUT Steve went out of his way to accommodate us and I got in the Hawaiian Turtle Observer Specialty. (will finish the specialties on the next trip!!!!) VERY accommodating, professional, and Humorous - cannot get a better combination. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

We were able to squeeze ahead of it tho with a little bit of water tho still warm really. It was a bit bumpy when we had to get ahead of the storm but that's understandable. During the trip around we saw a few whales and beautiful views of the Napali coast. There was also a small dolphin and plenty of flying fish skipping across the water. Dinner included had pulled pork and teriyaki chicken. I also had a vegetarian meal which was great. It was their own mix over rice. Flavors were good tho a little dry. A gravy would've melded things but otherwise still a good mix. The food was onboard and drinks were great. Lily was running around delivering drinks and snacks. We got many drinks and cookies over the course of the cruise. It was a great experience overall, would certainly recommend.

Captain Max was incredible--his sense of humor kept us laughing even as the rain and mist rolled in. The playlist on board was spot on, setting the perfect vibe. I wish I could find it on Spotify! Despite the weather, the views were breathtaking, and getting a little drenched just added to the adventure. The food was delicious, especially the smoked pork, salad, and fresh fruit, and my husband loved the mai tais. Even without the sunset, the whole experience was magical. After chatting with other travelers, I'm convinced we had one of the best tours available. especially after talking to a couple at our hotel pool who had paid more than we did and only got snacks limited alcohol. Price was $250 per person and we booked a couple days before the tour date. (we went at the end of March - the weather was fantastic and not too hot, also not raining). Although it was pricey, I felt like it was worth the experience and highly recommend anyone do a tour, even if it's not with this company. We got back to shore around 7-7:30pm, so total time was 5 hours ish. Pros: - the Na Pali coast is BEAUTIFUL - the views were truly a once in a life time experience for me and I saw the fullest rainbow I've ever seen - The tour guide was super informative, we learned a lot about whales, and they also taught us a lot about certain mountains and waterfalls that we passed on the Na Pali Coast (like where Kauai kings were buried). - We stopped to watch whales multiple times and it was really cool! - The 3 staff working on board the ship were extremely helpful in answering questions, providing drinks, and instructing people from a safety perspective - Safety - I felt very well taken care of the whole time. It's a barefoot cruise but people can choose to keep their shoes on if they want. They provided bags for people feeling nauseous and gave good advice when people were feeling seasick. - Food provided - it's not fine dining or anything (chicken teriyaki, salad, etc) but it does beat having to pack your own food or go hungry around dinner time. Also unlimited alcohol or nonalcoholic drinks. - The staff helped us take photos and there's a lot of great photo opportunities at the coast - Champagne toast at sunset, which was beautiful to watch out on the water - bathrooms available on board - My husband didn't feel like eating on board due to the motion sickness so they were kind enough to pack a to-go box for us! - Parking was easy and the meet up location was easy to find - we stood outside for most of the ride since it felt better than sitting inside, so we did get a bunch of sea-spray and got super wet from the 10 ft swells, but it felt really fun! Cons: - I think they need to put a huge disclaimer with statistics or something to show people how common it is for people to get seasick and vomit. I think maybe 5 people from our whole boat got really sick and either fell or vomited during the trip (can feel a little weird enjoying the beautiful view while someone smells like vomit next to you lol). They do tell you at the beginning that you can walk away and get a full refund after hearing the captain briefing during the meet up starting spot, but I don't think they really emphasize just how many people get sick. I personally felt fine but I felt really bad for people who had to gut through the five hour round trip feeling terrible. bring Dramamine!! This was definitely a highlight of my first time in Kauai, I wouldn't necessarily do it more than once due to the price, but it was a fantastic experience for the views!
