Cash only! Let me start with I'm not a donut gal. The only fried thing I enjoy is potatoes in any form, maybe an occasional (once every three years or so)onion ring craving. Fried dough? Nah. BUT, much like hiking - stay with me - the concept of donuts is appealing. That being said, far too many donut places are getting waaaaay to fancy with their goods, driving the price of a basic donut from around .33/ea to well over $1. Ridiculous! Yes, inflation, yadda yadda yadda, but c'mon, we all know, when done in large batches, the price of fried dough over $1 a piece is still not justifiable. SO, while running some early morning Saturday errands, I found Father's Donuts nearby and a 5 star Yelp review. Score! A good old fashioned, strip mall donut shop, previous signage indicates it was a Fostar's Donuts at some point. $9.99 A DOZEN!!!! Simple, staple, working man donuts - not a Fruity Pebble, nor bacon strip, nor crushed Oreo to be found here. Cakey crumb donuts, powdered, glazed, twists, old fashioned, jelly filled, maple bars - you get what I'm putting down, right? Basic donuts, basic, fair pricing, lovely owner, with a big smile and a crowd eating at the counter inside that look like they may be daily fixtures at this neighborhood spot. While hubby proclaimed his glaze and twist donuts an enthusiastic 'YUMMY!', I thought they were good and hit the spot. Again, not a donut/fried dough gal. I seem to have a sensitivity to cooking oil. I especially DO NOT care for 85C bakery goods because I can taste the soy oil - yuck! Father's donuts had a mild oil after taste. Not greasy. Fluffy, light and tasty, but I definitely picked up the oil. I'm pretty sure that's me. BUT, for the price, variety, friendly demeanor, and an extra 6 donut holes thrown in the box, Father's gets a solid 4 stars. Cheers! CC

The fruit tarts is probably my favorite of them all, the fruit is fresh and they're not stingy with it at all. The bread? So fluffy and great as well. They expanded from their old location to next door and it's really modern and beautiful on the inside. Very clean and they sell hot/cold coffee drinks as well! Just get there before 2pm as they barista is gone by that time. Highly recommend anyone looking for custom cakes, highly recommend anyone local, in reality , I highly recommend ANYONE to try them out. Huge shout out to the staff as well.

We picked up cake yesterday and it was the incorrect cake. They made it Tres leches and no fondant. We went in and spoke with manager that stated that the employee that took order is not in today. And refused to refund because there wasn't a contract for Fondant. We made order over the phone so obviously there wasn't a contract and we were never told that that we needed a contract for fondant in order to refund. Manager was very unprofessional because we told him that we pretty much have to pay for his employees mistake and he responded: Yes

They have real good pastries and they are known for the Pastel de milhojas ( pastry dough layered type of cake with fruit and cream filling). As I waited for her to arrive from work on a blistering hot afternoon, I parked outside and watched a continuous flow of people coming in and out of the doors, taking lots of homemade goodies with them. Once my girl arrived, we walked inside and got a sense of what people were experiencing. A small establishment, with about a half dozen counter seats, you are immediately in front of a several large glass doors of fresh Mexican pastry, with several other fresh racks waiting to be stored. There are so many options to choose from, with prices ranging from 50 cents to $1.50. We decided to first order what we came for, which was the Carne Asada Torta. We spoke with the friendly gentleman at the counter who walked us through what was on the sandwiches, as well as how to grab some tongs and a plastic tray to snag some delicious treats for after lunch. While waiting for our sandwiches, my girlfriend and I grabbed several pastries and cookies for dessert. The restaurant was buzzing non-stop this Friday afternoon, with people of all ages coming in to load up on goodies for the day, and possibly the weekend. Within 10 minutes, our sandwiches were brought out to us. They looked amazing! I decided to keep all of the ingredients in tact: Carne Asada, Beans, Chili, Lettuce, Tomato, Mayonnaise, Avocado, Cheese. The bread was delicious: soft, fresh and a perfect vehicle to hold in all of the delicious ingredients. The asada is the star here. Absolutely tender, seasoned to perfection. The cheese is also top notch, with the other ingredients adding tons of flavor in each packed bite. Priced at just under $10 each, there aren't many options that compare in taste and value around. As for the pastries, my girlfriend and I shared a few cookies and pan dulce shortbreads in the car. Freshly baked, crumbling to the touch, these goodies were delicious and simple. Not too sweet, and great versions of traditional Mexican delights. The energy at this Sylmar restaurant is fast-paced, friendly and outstandingly delicious. Parking is good as there are several spots available in this strip-mall layout. No bathrooms as it is primarily a grab-and-go establishment. I'll be back to see what other affordable, homemade pastries are available to complement the next time I am craving a Carne Asada Torta from El Milagro. Check them out!
