The drinks here are not very good. Really watered down coffee and matcha. Disappointing because the drinks were $9-10 and looked good. Maybe we ordered on a bad day but it just looked like the matcha and coffee grounds used was not good. Workers here were really nice + limited seating. Definitely do not recommend the drinks unfortunately.
The egg coffee was rich, bold, and delicious! The coffee was much stronger than what you'd typically find at American coffee shops, but blended beautifully with the creamy egg foam on top, creating a smooth, rich, and well-balanced flavor. The matcha ube, on the other hand, was a bit underwhelming. The matcha had a nice bitterness, but something felt missing, maybe a little sweetness or creaminess to bring everything together. The interior was super chic, cool, and stylish, with a trendy aesthetic that gave the place a great vibe. Service was decent, no complaints there. Overall, the egg coffee was definitely the highlight, but considering the steep prices, I'm not sure I'd come back for another round.
This cafe is so chic and the matcha is great. The only downside is there isn't a lot of seating and the matcha is a bit pricey. The sea salt matcha is my go to order!!!
Loved my hojita latte. These are hard to find in the US...can't think of another cafe that has this flavor. Tasted exactly like how it did when I was in Japan. I was blown away by the service. The guy at the cash register was talking customers through the flavor profile of each drink, how they could customize it to exactly what they wanted, it was above and beyond the service you'd get at another coffee shop. The interior is designed all black with some stools along the window.
So glad I finally got to try Fat Miilk! We visited on a weekday and it wasn't very busy so our order came out quick. After craving egg foam coffee for over 4 months, I finally got to try Fat Miilk's viral drink. The coffee had a wonderful, strong taste that was still sweet enough to not be too bitter. If you like Vietnamese coffee, you'll like this base. The egg foam wasn't as sweet/salty as some others I've tried. It was good, but wasn't exceptional to me. Lady M was having a pop up at the shop at the time we visited and my bf ordered the hot chocolate special. The toasted/melted marshmallow on top was super good and a wonderful touch. It was nice to see our barista torch it into the drink, pretty cool experience. The added biscuit was also a nice touch. The chocolate itself had a rich taste, however it was a little ironic how the beverage itself wasn't very hot or as hot as it could've been after we got it. It seemed to cool pretty quickly, so we were a little disappointed. Overall, the staff were very kind and the drinks were decent. I'd love to come back and try their other specials next time I'm in the area.
I fear I ordered the wrong thing. The inside of this place is really dark and moody with cool branding. Their AC must have been out though it was unbearably hot and it made us not want to stay and enjoy there. I should have ordered the egg coffee or something with a cold foam. The iced white wasn't bad, but I've definitely had tastier Vietnamese coffees at OMI or Vietfive. I'd give this place another chance though
My friends and I recently visited Fat Milk to grab quick coffees for our walk. I ordered an ube latte, and my friends ordered ube matcha latte and an egg foam coffee. I absolutely loved the ube latte, it had perfect shot of caffeine and the ube taste to complement the coffee. My friend who ordered ube matcha latte did not quite like his drink but it was partly his fault as he did not mix the drink well. Egg foam coffee was good too as per my friend, I don't like the yolky taste so I skipped it. They don't have any food to grab so that is a bummer and the seating space is pretty limited too! Overall, a good cafe and I will stop by if I'm again in the neighborhood. They are also part of inKind so you can get discounts while you make the payment using the app.
Good coffee in a no frills shop. There is bar seating at the window but people seem to be just sitting there to wait for pick up, not super ideal for working or chilling. I got the iced egg coffee for myself and a hot signature latte for my husband. I've also tried the iced signature latte which is great. I tried my husband's hot coffee and it was not that good so I think sticking to iced here is probably best. The egg coffee egg flavor was a little overpowering when sipping straight but when I stirred it, it was a lot better.
If you are looking for some good coffee in the uptown area , Fat Miilk is a great spot to try. They offer an array of flavors, but my go to is the matcha. The shop is clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful with any questions. It's worth a try if you are near.
Such a cutesy lil size with a good sea salt foam! Paired deliciously with the roasted coffee bean juice. The initial taste was strong but the combination of the cream settling in made it very balanced. Shop is small and themed stylishly, with a small business clothing with socks for sale. The baristas and cashier was friendly and welcoming.
Love the chill vibes and super friendly baristas. Their ube and matcha drinks are amazing -- definitely add the house-made cream top!
Amazing service and atmosphere. Their ube matcha latte is amazing not too sweet and just perfect sized too! I wish they had their affogato special as that's what I originally came in for. But I would definitely come back again!
Been meaning to come here for ages, and so glad I finally stopped by! We were super lucky to stop by during happy hour, too, which is from 1-3, and includes a fair number of their drinks being 50% off. They have a lovely space with bar seating, and the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the Argyle area. I got their hot signature coffee and it was very tasty and had a unique flavor, probably thanks to their robusta beans. I should've mixed it a bit more since a lot of the condensed milk in the drink ended up at the bottom, but others liked that it was not too sweet and the coffee flavor came through nicely. They also had packages of beans you can buy that they grind for you, and yummy pastries from Phlour bakery! Will definitely be back sometime to try their other drinks!

Had to try this place on account of being a Ramsay fan. Yes this is the one from the show! Overall I was pleased with the flavor of the coffee, inside design is striking like to contrasts..Coffee is very good but the portion is a bit small for 6 bucks. It is Chi-Town so there is that. Def worth stopping by to try it out. Fun!! read more

We appreciate you coming by!
Based on one visit. This place specializes in Vietnamese coffee using the Phin (tin coffee drip container). The coffee is brewed drip style indirectly: There is a large area with a trough where very large Phins are used to make the coffee by hand. Then the coffee is transported to the counter where it is distributed. See pictures. I make this style of Coffee at the office sometimes. I usually don't use condense ed milk which is the norm. I was skeptical and ordered an iced phin with condensed milk. It was really good. Note that this style of coffee is quite strong. But I love strong coffee. They also have other drinks including brewed coffee, Americanos, Cappuccino's, teas etc. the place has a big city masculine vibe. The seats are not that comfortable at least for me noting I am 5'10. Very friendly service from three people I interacted with. I really felt welcomed. Big plus noting this is just one visit. Definitely worth a try. read more

We appreciate the thorough review, Pat! Thanks for stopping in.
Visited July 16, 2024. The Iced Vietnamese Traditional Coffee is delicious! Highly recommend this if you like strong coffee. Some places have a lingering aftertaste but Fat Miilk is pretty smooth, not too sweet (with condensed milk), and does the hassle of the dripping process for you! Service was great and had great authentic restaurant recommendations for the area. Ambiance was a clean dark interior. read more

Firstly, the aesthetic of the shop is awesome! You'd think all black could be too much but it's just right. It looks great! Especially the art in the back and outside, that's really cool. The drinks were really good! I got the 16 oz Vietnamese Phin Drip Cold Brew. I chugged it, it was so good! My partner got the cold brew latte with caramel and oat milk. That was really good too! And it had a strong coffee taste, which I loved. Also the cups have a cool sip design on the lid where unlike some of the other lids, it stops it from just overflowing to you. Lastly, the service was really good and shout out to Fat Miilk owner - Lan! Cool person to talk to! If you haven't seen her on Gordon Ramsey's Food Stars, check her out there! Thanks for a cool first place to go to for mine and my partner's anniversary. We'll be back! read more

Cute coffee shop by Argyle that has a variety of different coffees. It is a little pricey for coffee but it's nice to offer some different options. The staff were all very nice and the coffee tasted good too. The coffee cups are cute too if you wanted to keep it in the future. I don't drink coffee too often but I enjoyed their lattes. read more

Thanks so much Katilyn!
Overall Thoughts: Fat Miilk exudes sleek, minimalist vibes and features a limited menu specializing in Vietnamese iced coffee. The space is small and seating is limited / not ideal for working, so it's mostly a grab and go spot. The prices are high for small-ish portions, but man the drinks are *strong*-- I was wired all day and night after drinking a 12oz cup of the traditional Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk. It's not as sweet as Vietnamese coffee normally is, but I think I prefer it that way. Overall, I'd be interested in coming back to try their matcha too! -- Price (relative to peers): 4.1/5 Food: 4.3/5 Ambience: 4.4/5 Service: 4.7/5 Overall Value: 4.3/5 read more

Coffee could've been a little stronger and the egg foam was a bit too light for my taste. I've gone to other places where it's a lot thicker and richer. Service was good and quick. read more

Ordered the Traditional Vietnamese Cold Brew and the Blueberry Danish that was on rotation. The coffee is still great, and the scone was phenomenal. Crispy outside with crunchy sugar pellets. I'm not sure if they got rid of the original branded cups, but wish they brought them back. It would also be nice if they opened at 7:30am, but at least there is always staff ready at 8:00am to open the door. read more

We're glad you loved it! Thanks so much for stopping in.
I had seen this place on instagram and wanted to check it out- it definitely lived up to the hype! Only issue was I wanted more quantity as the cups were super small. Also, the area doesn't really have much around it so it wasn't the best place to visit if you aren't local to Chicago. The seating was limited but still there but in the morning can get quite sunny with the light hitting the windows. Overall thought it was AMAZING but the space and location might not be the best. read more
Came here on a Sunday mid morning and it's was pretty busy but our orders came out pretty fast. Modern, artisty aesthetic with plenty of seating. I got the Vietnamese ice coffee. Excellent flavor but I do find that it's pricey for coffee. It comes in a cute cup. Would come here again. read more
A very enjoyable Vietnamese coffee in the Uptown area. I was a fan of Lan when she appeared on Gordon Ramsay's food stars, so when I found out her business was in Chicago, I had to visit. She was also there working the register and taking orders, which I thought was very cool. The aesthetics and marketing are on point, but I will say, a bit overpriced for coffee generally. I would go again for sure the next time I'm in the uptown area. read more
Pretty good Vietnamese iced coffee! I'm such a fiend for Vietnamese iced coffee, and I think they have a good balance of coffee to condensed milk. The interior is so cute and nice--the hundreds of coffee canisters made me laugh. It's really interesting how they dispense the coffee through tap, and it still tastes just as good as if it was freshly brewed. They should consider making more specialty drinks! An ube Viet coffee here would be so bomb. read more

Huge fan of Fat Miilk! I've tried their Vietnamese iced coffee and their lattes, and both were incredible. The decor is super cool, but there aren't many spots to sit / hangout. That said, this is one of my fav coffee spots in Uptown! read more

Very unique coffee flavor! I've gotten the phin drip with condensed milk, matcha ube, and latte with hazelnut syrup so far! Their drinks are not very sweet which is great! The coffee is nutty, concentrated, and a little fruity. The price is about the same as other coffee places but I come here for the unique flavor! Service and ambiance are great! It's somewhere I would go to have a nice chat! read more

I've been wanting to visit for a long time. The ambiance, interior decor and merch were so unique and super black. And although it was my first time and so excited, the service was not good. I tried to ask the barista Sean/Shawn a question on his recommendation and he responded very coldly and short. I didn't know what to get and asked a few questions and there was no line so I didn't understand why he'd respond so rudely. The drink was good but the service just made me feel so unwelcome. read more
Yesterday I got the vietnamese traditional coffee with condensed milk in the small size and it was amazing. I liked that it was not too sweet and not too bitter. The small was the perfect amount of caffeine for me not to shake and for me to also get the work I needed done. This is a cute space to grab coffee and explore the surrounding stores or to just chill for a little bit. The service was super friendly too and they moved quickly. I'll definitely be back! read more

Such cool vibes and branding. Not a place to sit and do work, but there were a few bar stools by the counter windows. The iced Vietnamese coffee with ube foam and coconut on top was so so good. read more
