Crispy light bone-in chicken that doesn't sink like a rock into your stomach, real jo jos like I remember eating as a kid in the local pizza shops, the cutest little sides of crunchy coleslaw and zippy baked beans.... this place, this place!! The crusty/eighties/tacky beach vibe is strong here; the rattan fans and the Keno playing are just the icing on the cake. The tables inside are cozy round or u-shaped booths, and there's tons of seating on outside picnic tables. The people who work here are the best part, funny, pleasant, so nice to talk to. We felt right at home and it was our first time ever eating here. Sometimes I feel like beach food isn't so great, it's just more about the nostalgia of going to the boardwalk and grabbing a bite, but this place was the real thing and it was delicious. My three hungry kids and my hungry husband and I spent $40 eating here and that bought us a massive amount of fried chicken (a few pieces of which we brought home), a big basket of fries, jo jos, a sublime side of mac and cheese, beans, slaw, and fountain drinks. Heard good things about this place. I know your at the beach and should get seafood, but we are adventurous and willing to try new places. The staff was helpful which comes in handy during this Covid crisis, they said we could order (only one person from our group), while the rest of our party waited in the dining room. We tried the chicken fingers, I was hoping they were made fresh, but these were prepackaged frozen. I got the 3 piece chicken dinner which comes with a leg, thigh and breast. While spending the day at the beach decided to give Farr's a try as I love a good fried chicken. The staff was very friendly and down to earth. I got the chicken wing dinner, my husband got the buffalo chicken sandwich, one of our girls got the chicken drumstick kids meal and the other the grilled cheese. Went here based on the yelp reviews after a round of golf in the area yesterday. Phone ordered $60 worth of chicken, (half for my buddy I was with). We got there before it was done cooking so we chatted with the owner about the craziness in the world. 5 minutes later our chicken was hot and ready. Went out to the car and opened up all the boxes of chicken to let the steam out and dug right in, but to our disappointment, the chicken was soggy. Ate a different piece, same thing. I went back into the restaurant to ask the owner if the chicken was supposed to be soggy? He stated, "leave the boxes open and it will get crispier when it cools down." We did that for the whole ride home with no change in the texture of the chicken. Based on my experience, I do not recommend Farr's, the chicken was twice as soggy as KFCs original recipe read more

We went to Farr's Famous Chicken today. Are you kidding? It was absolutely terrible! The cole slaw tasted like nothing, the beans tasted like they had perfume in them, and I couldn't eat any of the chicken after one bite, even though they were such tiny pieces. The potatoes were under-cooked and bland. The entire place is filthy. I'm sure they never wipe down the ketchup, salt, or pepper shakers. They were sticky and gross. Since the new owners took over a few years ago the chicken has become amazing. It is made to order not sitting around getting greasy and soggy. We always order the breasts which are fairly large and all white meat which is packed with juicy flavors. The Mac N cheese is also very good. Prices are very reasonable with a breast at just $3. It had really crispy and crackling skin, and the meat underneath was very moist and tender. The sides of potato wedges, coleslaw, and beans were average, but at least the chicken measured up to the name. Aside from the food, the people working there are extremely kind and hospitable. It took me 40 years to finally try this place I had heard so much about. Judy and Paul are super nice. The chicken was delish as well as the Jojo's, Cole slaw, and beans. We also tried a side of Mac n cheese which was nicely done with ritz crackers on top. Most of the reason I never came in was the long lines and traffic. I never thought of going early or late in the season. No wait!! They gave me a tip for when summer is in full session and the line is wrapped around the building. Just call in your order for take out, avoid the lines and drive in through the marsh and out by the police station thus avoiding most of the traffic. This is a must stop when visiting Hampton Beach!!
